Proliferation of champions and new unbiased ranking system...
Great article on The Guardian website: http://www.theguardian.com/sport/the-balls-of-wrath/2015/feb/02/transnational-boxing-rankings-board-sport-titles
Discussing the state of boxing and one of the boards biggest moans...
Alphabet belts and meaningless titles.
The article talks about the Transnational Boxing Ranking Board: http://www.tbrb.org
Setup to try and cut through all the BS around the various governing bodies and the no longer impartial Ring belts and rankings.
The rankings on the TBRB site make interesting reading.
Might be nice to discuss something other than Floyd and Manny...

Cutting down on the proliferation of governing bodies and ranking systems by... Setting up a new body with a new ranking system...?

It's basically a go to listing for those looking for a true reflection on who today's real world class fighters are (and which fighters deserve to be called champions).
Far and away the best set of rankings going but it isn't going to change anything unless real governance (by one ruling body) is introduced and they adopt these rankings.

It's a sweet idea (I mean that in the patronising sense), but inherently flawed. Here's an example. Suppose Lara fought Canelo at the 154 weight for his title, the fight goes exactly the same and Canelo has his hand hand raised. A collection of experts then decide to an overwhelming majority that Lara was robbed (he wasn't, but go with it), and he doesn't lose his rating. In the real world however, Lara has lost his title, and with it, any bargaining chip he has for big fights and is down to fighting the likes of Ishe Smith. Judging by the article, the payoff is then, much like the real world. Lara's ranking drops?

Be interesting to see what happens with Al Haymon, has a huge stable and looks like he could be doing something similar to UFC (spit) regarding all the fighters being under one roof.
Unfortunately for boxing it's not just American's who take part (like in UFC). So trying to pull together everyone together is going to be nigh on impossible. Especially when you have the small asians fighting down at the lighter weights who will nearly always exclusively fight in Japan and so forth.
In a nutshell there needs to be a governing body created. This body would work with states/governments to draw up laws that fighters must be licensed by them/submit to the WADA drug testing code/provide arbitration for disputes through them etc etc. They in turn come up with the rankings and have one, yes just one, title for each division and don't charge a % for each title fight fought. They would ultimately have the power to order fights, if fighters couldn't agree on terms then they have their license revoked.
Give it 500 years, maybe. Sigh, probably not.

Yes but If they created a governing body it would probably be bent and open to inducements....
Said it before I prefer two titles than one anyway...........That way guys like Sonny liston don't have to waste their primes while people like Patterson fight Pete Rademacher types instead....
My view they could get rid of crap like Straw weight, jr bantam and jr feather......That might make the lower divisions more interesting..
Welter to jr midd is 7 pounds...........And Bant - Feath is 8...........

Roman Gonzalez #3, Bradley #4 and Estrada #9 are all absolutely laughable and totally undermine the quality of the website/its ranking.
