Stanley Cup finals
Congratulations Boston and Vancouver, both teams making the SCF.
From all Canadiens, GO CANUCKS!

Re: Stanley Cup finals
Looking foward to this.
An 'Original Six' team with no Cup luck since '72 going for number 6, versus a Canadian team with no Cup win at all, after losing two finals ('82 and '94)
Should be a great Final. Roll on Wednesday night!!

Re: Stanley Cup finals
And the Canucks have taken a 1-0 lead in the the series in a game that was a lot closer than I thought it was going to be. Both goalies were outstanding with the 0-0 deadlock finally being broken by the Canucks with 18 seconds left in regulation.
To be honest it wasn't the greatest game of hockey I've ever seen. Very, very scrappy, with far too many penalties, offsides and icing calls to make it a classic (unlike the Bruins v Bolts game 7 which was pure poetry).
So game 2 tomorrow night in Vancouver. Obviously, I'm hoping the Bruins will win and level the series. But I'm also hoping for fewer penalties and a more flowing game.
Go Bruins!

Dirty hack on Bieksa. Vancouver cant let themselves be bullied by the Bruins. They need to get physical again like they were in the 1st.....
Goal. 2-2, Good reply by Vancouver. Game swings back back towards C's.

Well, whats the best way to not let Boston rally for the win.... turn it over in the neutral zone and score after 11 seconds!
Vancouver go 2 games up. Not to worry Bruins fans, you have time yet. Next game Monday night.

All we've heard this playoffs is 'Vancouver players dive', 'Burrows should have been suspended', 'cheap shot artists'...
1. Krejci's cowardly hit on Dan Hamhuis in Game 1 was despicable.
2. Rich Peverley's cowardly slash on Bieksa in Game 2 was despicable.
3. If Burrows deserved a suspension, so too did Nathan Horton prior to the ECF Game 7. Oh, wait...
4. Chara gets away with murder because of his height. I was amazed the Nucks were given that interference call last night (from which we scored).
5. Obviously CJ you are exempt from all of this, being a classy lady and all
A 2-0 lead is nothing though. We were 3-0 up against Chicago. I believe the Bruins have been down by 2 in these playoffs as well. All I want is similar effort to Games 1 and 2 - after all, if we win all our home games, we win the Cup...
Ont last point - Chara is a pylon. He's had an AWFUL series so far.

1. Totally agree
2. Yep, agree with that too
3. If you're dumb enough to stick your fingers in a hairy-assed hockey player's gob, you get what you deserve.
4. Nah, actually I wish Chara would be more physical, he's been hopeless so far.
5. Love ya Azzy
And the Bruins have indeed been down by 2. It was against the Habs, but the Nucks are a much better team, and I honestly can't see us turning this one around.

still no further news on Horton, but the incident has obviously fired up the Bruins. They're now 4-0 up, including a Brad Marchand shorty.

Re: Stanley Cup finals
A big 'statement' game by the B's, a physical 8-1 blow out will do that for you. Just how big we will see in game 4, to see if Boston use their muscle again to level the series or will Vancouver come firing back at them. If Boston dont win Wed. night, it puts Vancouver one win away from the cup with game 5 at home Friday night.
As for the Horton hit, Rome was head-hunting, left his feet and dangerous etc. and will deserve his supension, but I hope it teaches Horton to keep his head up coming over the blue line! Hard but fair

Here is a link to last night's 'Coach's Corner', re. Rome's hit and the Bruins stirring it up.

Re: Stanley Cup finals
Horton's out for the series with severe concussion. No word yet on Rome's punishment, but I can't see it being more than two games. (Aaron Rome has just catapulted into second place on my hockey hit-list)
So who's going to take Horton's place on the top line? I don't think Seguin's ready for that responsibility. Maybe Ryder?
Update: Rome's got a four game suspension which means he's out for the rest of the series.

Re: Stanley Cup finals
Only right that Rome got suspended for the rest of the series. If Horton should miss it then so should he. But Rome is not a dirty player, IMO he got caught up in the hype and lost it. Thats not an excuse, but I do believe him when he says it was not his intention to take Horton out like that.
As for the suspention itself, the NHL have been trying to stamp out the 'head-hunting' shots all season, so they had to be tough in their biggest showpiece of the year to send the message to players, fans and those just watching the Cup finals that hits like that (blindsided and off your feet) and are not part of the game (any more!)
By the way, Nathan Horton is reported as having 'severe concussion'.

Even though Rome is out for the rest of the series I still feel the Canucks haven't lost as much as the Bruins in Horton being out.
Gives Tyler Seguin a chance to shine, he's one of the Bruins I actually like.

I agree with you on how the Bruins will miss Horton more than the Canucks with Rome.
I would be surprised if Seguin gets a whole load of time in future games I would expect Ryder to be the go to guy.

Re: Stanley Cup finals
Well putting Peverley in Horton's place has paid off. It's 1-0 to the Bruins at the end of the first. (long long way to go yet though).
Still a bit chippy with two power plays to the Nucks, but the Bruins PK has been good.
And it's now 3-0 to the Bruins at the end of the second. Goals from Marchand and Ryder - Bruins are looking good; but they'll on the PK going into the third.

3-0 Bruins after 2 periods.
The lack of PP goals are killing the Canucks, their 0 for 11 in the last 5 periods of play!!
But infairness to the Bruins, physical D and Tim Thomas have a lot to do with it.

Looks as if the series will be tied 2-2, but calamity, wouldn't you love it if they counted aggregate score as well, it's 14-5 to Boston as it stands. Bruins also lead on away goals.
Re: Stanley Cup finals
And the Red Sox are about to lead the AL East, beating the Yankees 11-5 in NY in the bottom of the 9th.
Good night for Boston.

Seabreeze, I am loving these 'new' Bruins. The Nucks have found out the hard way what happens when you poke the bear. I just hope they can stay angry and keep this level of play going. Marchand had better be careful though. He's a chippy little sod and has crossed the line a couple of times and I don't want him giving up needless penalties.

Very, very impressed with the team , the Canuckleheads better get it together cause the " Gaaden " awaits them for game 6 . Marchand needs to bring his halo for game 5 & Vancouver will follow him around all night getting penalties . When Horten got hit , I wanted to throw my gloves off & plow through the TV . Exciting times for the youthful Boston fans .

The 'new' Bruins, just like the 'old' Bruins! (70's Bruins that is) All you are missing Jane is Terry O'Reilly and Mike Milbury to go into the Vancouver crowd Friday night and beat people with their own shoes!
If this is how the Finals are goin to be, Vancouver better find somone who can break some heads, if not they had better shoot and skate rings around Boston.

And we've reached the crucial part of the series. The Canucks beat the Bruins 1-0 in game 5 and are now only one game away from the cup. The action returns to the Garden tomorrow night and if the Canucks win they are the Stanley Cup champions, and if the Bruins win, it's back to Vancouver for a thrilling game 7 winner takes all game on Wednesday night.

Re: Stanley Cup finals
Seeing that the road teams have been pretty anemic in the 5 games so far Im going for a game seven in Vancouver. The Canuks were good at the physical stuff on Friday, the better of the 5 games IMO, it will be interesting to see if they can repeat it for their first Cup. As for the B's, win or go home time. Should be a wicked close one!

Blimey! It's 4-0 going into the second and Luongo has been chased in favour of Schneider. So if the B's can keep this up, we've got a winner takes all game seven on Wednesday.
