Good team that.
Near what I would have chosen. Only changes.

I was thinking Lineker but he was only there one season, wasn't he?

Lineker crossed my mind yes but as you say he was only with us for 1 season albeit a very successful one. Then he moved on to some little team......Barcelona!

Good and interesting mix of generations there, MIG.
Although he was shamefully only selected once for England, I think Colin Harvey deserves a place in the midfield alongside his old mate Alan Ball.
Also, Ray Wilson might well ask Leighton Baines to show him his World Cup medal!
Good to see a recognition that football existed before the Premier League with the inclusion of Dixie Dean. Mind you, he wouldn't thank you for calling him 'Dixie' - that was something the press coined and it just stuck. My great uncle knew him when he played on the other side of Stanley Park and it was always 'Billy' to family, friends and opponents!

Re: Best international 11 from your country that play/have played for your club
Ray Wilson should have been an obvious choice, but I had to go with my heart and include Baines as he is my current favourite player and thought I should include at least one current player.
Obviously I knew about Dixie not being his real name but not being from that generation I've only ever known him as that. I hope he wouldn't be too offended!
Also went for Reid in midfield as I just about remember him in my earliest years of support (along with my dvds!)
Basically I've tried to go with best along with some personal favourites. But I still think even then the team is pretty damn good.

No Rooney?
Much as I will forever be a Bob Latchford fan, Rooney is a curious omission. Unless it's payback for abandoning ship.
These are a very interesting pair of threads, this one especially. Brain working overtime, which is an unusual thing.

MIG - from what my great uncle told me (now he's been gone for years, I so wish I had asked him more), Dean wouldn't have minded too much what you called him as long as you bought him a drink! Always fond of a jar, apparently.
Understand your reasoning over team selection and, yes, it is pretty damn good.

MIG - so as well as being a boozer, you also scored 60 top level league goals in a single season!

Hibbz - you also had some seriously good footballers in the '70s or, probably put more accurately, some reasonable footballers that Clough & Taylor got playing some seriously good football - particularly Anderson, Burns and Robertson.

Didn't see Anderson so he misses out (Shilton gets poetic licence because I saw him for other clubs), likewise didn't see Burns or Robertson and they're both Scottish so miss out twice!!

Hibbz,
Was "post" a pun intended??!!
Was the great Trevor Francis before yr time?
Confess I picked two players I read about in the Football Mail but never saw, except thru my Dad's eyes, Len Phillips and Jack Froggatt. Legends to a young lad.

Arsenal
All time XI
Seaman
Anderson
Adams
Campbell
Cole
Eastham
Ball
Platt
Bastin
McDonald
Drake
Can't justify putting in a few of my personal favourites like Merson, Wright and Rocastle, as they never showed there best form for England.

Of course mate, hope it gets your stamp of approval.
Tricky Trev had finished at Forest before I started watching though I remember seeing him play for QPR in the late eighties alongside another balding/bald legend Ray Butch Wilkins.

I saw most of the home games of Trev's breakthrough season, with a young Kenny Burns coming thru also. Loved watching him in those days - good that he largely franked his early promise.

And, without going back to the Johnny Carey era, you could have added Jackie Blanchflower and Billy Whelan from the Munich squad.

As an alternative to MIG's Everton team:
Gordon West
Tommy Wright
John Stones
Phil Jagielka
Ray Wilson
Leon Osman
Ross Barkley
Colin Harvey
Derek Temple
Wayne Rooney
Joe Royle
Tragic not to find a place for Keith Newton.
Best English footballer never to get an international cap in my lifetime: Howard Kendall.
Though not far behind is John Hurst.
And that's before even older-times like Tommy Lawton, or fleeting fly-by-nights like Lennon, Lineker and Gascoigne; fact is that a third team might be pretty good too, Fred Pickering being among the forward options!

QPR - England
Seaman
Fenwick
Parker
Ferdinand (Rio)
Sansom
Sinton
Sinclair
Wilkins
Francis (Gerry)
Ferdinand (Les)
Bowles
Manager - Venables
Nods to John Gregory, Rodney Marsh, Trevor Francis and probably a host of others that could (should?) have made it. Still, makes a decent bench...
