The Crimson Mask Empty The Crimson Mask

Post by Shot 21 LCFC Mon 16 Mar - 12:35

Watching a lot of old PPVs on the network, and there are some bloody battles on there. Some people literally drip blood like a water tap has been turned on. I'm just wondering what people think is the bloodiest that a particular wrestler has been. The 2 that instantly cone to mind is The Undertaker against Brock Lesnar at No Mercy 2002 (hell in a cell) and Eddie Guerrero v JBL at Judgment Day 2004.

Are there any that can top this? Probably best to keep this WWE or else it will just turn into a CZW appreciation thread.

Also should blood return. I definitely think so. Not like in 98-01 where people seemed to bleed on every episode of Raw and Smackdown, but it would have a place in the biggest matches of the year or for the most heated feuds. Just imagine Bray Wyatt beating The Undertaker in an absolute war and then dropping down saying "follow the buzzards" with a face full of blood. I think it should be a 2 or 3 times a year sort of thing.

I agree that blood should return but in a minor role. A match like a Hell in a Cell or the Chamber can be taken from 10 to 11 with a flash of crimson. If used sparsely it can really help sell a story. It was always good to see a guy on RAW the next night with plasters and bandages and bruises, it really helped sell the brutality of a match.

If I were to pick a bloodiest match I would nominate John Cena vs JBL Judgement Day 05, either McMahon vs Undertaker Survivor Series 03 or VS Zach Gowan (cant remember the PPV, think it was No Mercy sometime) and Triple H vs Shawn Michaels Last Man Standing Royal Rumble 05.

Eddie vs JBL was hard to watch, which highlights the dangers on deliberate blade jobs. Eddie lost a ton of blood that night and was lucky to walk out of there. However, it was a one off and has been done safely before and since.

literally just finished WM 21 and was thinking the exact same thing, before it was a bit too gratuitous for my liking and lost a lot of impact, but seeing that as someone who hasnt seen it for a while made it much more engaging. Sparingly brought back would be ideal really

I'd say Mankind v Rock at Royal Rumble 99 is up there. Always remember foley getting helped out with that tray full of blood carried under his face

Looking back at the old PPVs, the use of blood was ridiculous and in fact I have yet to watch a match where I felt the use of blood was necessary. WWE, at the moment, seem incapable of understanding the simple concept of less is more so I don't want it to be brought back.

Even looking back retrospectively, there aren't many matches I'd say should have had blood. I think Lesnar/Cena at Summerslam, Lesnar/Undertaker at Wrestlemania are two that perhaps could have had blood in for added impact, but I don't think anything was lost because they didn't use blood. I understand that some want it to make gimmick matches like Hell in a Cell to seem more dangerous, but I think you can have a brutal, painful looking match without the use of blood.
