Qatar World Cp 2022: World Cup Final to be held on December 18th

Fifa has confirmed that the 2022 World Cup final in Qatar will take place on 18 December.

A Fifa taskforce recommended last month that the tournament should be switched from summer to winter.

The decision to hold the final on 18 December means Britain's traditional Boxing Day club matches on 26 December can still take place.

Fifa has also indicated that the 2022 World Cup could be shortened to 28 days. It normally lasts for 31 or 32 days.

It's the death of the world cup for me, what's the point when it's whole reputation becomes tarnished just to appease the highest bidder.

I really really hope some of the players boycott this and that some of the clubs (not just in England) put their foot down and demand compensation.

Ridiculous situation and all so Fifa executives can get a new watch or 2.

Oh and 100 percent agree with you Hammer (who'd have thought eh ), at least until this we could all pretend the world cup wasn't just about money.

I don't mind it to be honest as a winter WC would help pass the time during the dark cold December nights. Not denying it would be weird and the reasons behind it are purely money based (as are most big decisions in the modern world) but I wouldn't necessarily say this will be the death of the world cup as Fifa will probably learn from this not to give a place like Qatar the WC again

Yeah the problem isn't it being moved to winter, it's that it was ever awarded to Qatar in the first place. FIFA needs serious reform and investigation, but it simply isn't going to happen unless the football financial boom busts.
