Northampton 15-9 London Irish
London Irish 13-31 Newcastle (LV)
Edinburgh 26-15 Scarlets
Treviso 8-29 Edinburgh
Cardiff 21-15 Edinburgh
Edinburgh 17-20 Ulster
Edinburgh 24-16 Ospreys
Edinburgh 38-20 Bordeaux-Begles
I expect Dickinson and Ford may return this weekend, along with Fife and Scott depending on their fitness. Edinburgh are coming off the back of a very good win against Scarlets. An interesting sub-plot for the weekend could be SHC v Scott Steele at 9. I'm told Scott Steele kept SHC out of the 9 shirt at school and Scotland age group level, which lead to SHC playing at 15, but undeniably SHC is now the form 9 available to Scotland and is having an outstanding season. I've not seen as much of Scott Steele, but from what I saw of the highlights at the weekend, he looks slightly shorter and stockier and will, no doubt, be looking to push his name into the Scotland reckoning.

Maybe I'm saying this because I'm bitter about Irish losing but does anyone else think that if the ball is held up over the line at 80 mins the match shouldn't be ended in the same way it can't end on a penalty?

Ref has let a bunch of marginal high tackles go - so consistent in not giving that. Both challenged for the ball and Visser got very close so no tackle in the air

Its a scrum for ball held up - so game over same as if its a knock on. I see your point but its not what the rules say

It was fair enough to me. Penalty advantage - needs to have the opportunity to score points. Not many phases.

That is the difference between "Try, yes or no" and "Is there any reason I cannot award the try?". The latter would mean the referee can bring back play for a penalty.

Anyway, I think we put that in the "fortunate to win" column. Apart from the first 20/30 minutes, LI were the better team and certainly more adventurous.
On another point, SHC has been in Laidlaw's company too long. Latterly, he was sauntering to rucks and a couple of times, a LI boot came through the middle to disrupt it. Just clear the effing thing!!
Finally, McInally showed more leadership in one incident than Ross Ford did when asked for/got clarification from thenref on what had happened.
Unlucky Irish fans.
Finally (I mean it this time) Andress is a car-crash looking for an accident blackspot to happen

I was thinking the same thing - you couldn't see if it was grounded or held up so that's no way to end a game.

IYA no it's not harsh LI tried to kill off London Scottish and for that I'll never forgive them. You can blame Tiark if you like for taking them into administration, but it was LI who nailed down the coffin lid.
Agree that we need to get rid of Andress.

I heard in from the side at the maul, although it was not obvious from the replay.
I really thought the decision to take Nel off after the scrummage of the match (season?) would cost Edinburgh the win but he didn't. Sutherland will need to improve his tackling, Dickinson came back on and saved the day for Edinburgh.
Great impact from the bench from McKenzie and McInally.
Good win.

But the game restarted with an Edinburgh scrum (which we made a right gnob of), not a penalty to LI which is what really confused me.
On the subject of scrummaging, how is it the commentators know that Tom Court bores in illegally (there are, of course, other props who do this but Tom Court was playing in this game) but the refs don't see it? Not a criticism of Tom Court - just an observation.

I'd need to watch the replay but I thought the yellow was followed by a kick to the corner and line-out and from that phase there was eventually a knock on ..

Sorry, Heaf. I was typing when you posted - that would explain it.
A penalty try would have been harsh and would have been, if anything, for persistent offending as there wasn't really a time that LI looked certain to score a try. I can understand your frustration though as both LI and Edinburgh would/will fancy their chances of beating the Dragons

I thought it restarted with pen LI with a subsequent lineout drive which was amazingly well defended by McKenzie.
It happened each time the ref was on the other side of the scrum. Court is a smart guy and wasn't doing it when the ref was on his side.
