RWC heading to Qatar?
This is bad news if you ask me, temperatures over 50 degrees, is rugby even popular in that country ? Anyway, it looks like they will be making a bid, here's the link from Planet Rugby, what does everyone else think about this ?

Why on earth wouldn't the RWC take place in Autumn anyway?

Italy
Argentina

A test match between the ABs and Qatar???
"Farewell and adieu to you fair Spanish maiden..............'
The World is going not so slowly mad. Anything for money. Qatar as host for a Rugby World Cup? Why not. Let it happen. And have it the first World Cup in any sport where there is no actual live crowd present at all - but a virtual one where people allow their smartphones to travel alone (with smartphone passports of course) and represent them at the event. It's another gimmick that should make even more money for the biz buzz boys.

Lorddowlais it's a clever April Fools then because it really would not surprise me if Qatar went ahead with a bid.

I have seen some of the simulation work being carried out to look at temperatures inside the Qatar stadiums. Cooling is achieved through misting. Overall flow rates are in the tons of water per second range. Its scary stuff

While Qatar is a good place for international assignments, I hope rugby stays well away from there. They're hosting the football world cup and I got a feeling something bad will happen to unsuspecting fans. If they do a good job like Brasil then fair play to them.

Re: RWC heading to Qatar?
I had the pleasure of going to Qatar for work last September. I have never been anywhere where I have sweated more, and that was while doing relatively non-energetic work. Just walking outside was fearsome.
Obviously this is an AF, but I really can't understand how FIFA thought it was viable as a location for the World Cup. Even once the sun goes down, it doesn't cool that much because it is surprisingly humid.

You got to hand it to them; thats a pretty good April Fools story
I'm not sure Qatar have a rugby team. There's also this on the Planet Rugby site;

Well it's passed 12 o' clock and it is still on there, so they are the fools now.

Qatar's nice in February. As long as you avoid getting run over by bell ends that don't know how to drive their Maseratis.

It could be one way of increasing the coffers of the IRC or World Rugby what ever they call themselves these days. Well the voting commitee anyway.

Sepp Blatter has now said he feels he has the ability to take World Rugby under his wings now too and run it as a weekend hobby beside his weekly day job FIFA work.

Doha do have a rugby club (and sell beer) but tend to play in the cooler months (still hot though)

In case the Quatari authorities are listening in, I have a lot of influence at World Rugby. Just PM me and I will send by bank details for my 'consultancy fee'.

The WRU has announced they will support the bid. Rumours have it they want to host 5 matches of the Qatari RWC in the Millenium Stadium.
