First round marginally Hearns', second round more clearly Hagler's.

Mine is Nunn v Tate..................I'm s**t hot and she's always flattered to deceive..
I'd say you're more Bramble v Mancini, only ever relevant in 1984.

There aren't many occasions where I'd choose Nathan cleverley's career, but this line of topic might be one:

milkyboy wrote:I'm going to leave myself open to some serious milky baiting but this isn't one of my favourite fights. All action slugfest yes, but like my sex life it was all a bit frantic and over too quickly.
Lacked a bit of drama too. The first round was fantastic, but after that, unless it was stopped on cuts, the result was pretty obvious...marv was never going to lose if he could close the range and tommy couldn't/wouldn't create space to bring his jab I into play and leverage his shots. Had tommy bided his time ( or marv let him) depending on your opinion I'm sure the result would have been the same, but it would, to me at least, have been a longer and more interesting fight.
I actually Preferred the hagler Mugabi fight, at least there was some doubt about it for a few rounds and a bit of ebb and flow.
I appreciate it was a slugfest between two great fighters which elevates it and it was obviously still a great fight while it lasted. Clearly, I'm nitpicking, it's just not a big personal favourite.
I think that's true on repeat viewing. I think it would have been a different experience watching it live.

Everything is different when you know the result..........
Remember watching the Bruno fight with Tyson..........Brother and I were out of our chairs big style and losing the plot when the left hook landed and Tyson backed off to the ropes....For that ten seconds we were lost in the moment..."The unthinkable"
Hasten to add when Bruno hit the deck ten seconds into the first round our a**es were glued to our chairs.....
Hagler - Hearns was three minutes lost in the moment....A feeling you can't explain or relive..
It was a one round fight.............But what a round..
Boxing to me is the only sport that can give you these feelings.............Although City's winner in injury time v QPR is pretty unforgettable..

MINE WOULD BE JACKSON vs CORBETT...A LONG DRAW OUT MAULING AFFAIR WITH LITTLE IN THE WAY OF SKILL OR GRACE, THE WHOLE THING EVENTUALLY BROUGHT TO A MERCIFUL HALT AFTER NEITHER PARTY ARE ABLE TO COME OUT ON TOP AND DESPITE NUMEROUS REQUESTS, ONE PARTY SEEMS DECIDELY UNINTERESTED IN A REMATCH88Chris05 wrote:Drawing analogies between fights and our sex lives, eh? Interesting. No doubt Coxy's would be best represented by the first Battling Nelson-Joe Gans fight; a super-human feat of endurance and stamina, and hotter than hell to boot.
I suppose mine would be best compared to Pacquiao-Mayweather; hasn't happened yet but I've thought about it a lot, done plenty of talking about it and am looking forward to the big day finally arriving, hopefully in the near future.

Mine would be Lewis-Vitali.
Overweight and out of condition, wishing I had the stamina and virility of my youth, but got the job done in the end even if it did involve making a mess of the other's face.

It would be more like Jermain Taylor vs most people: Starts off well but is soon blowing out of his arse and soon ends up on the floor unable to get up.
Strongy would be like Malignaggi vs Diaz II - when Paulie shocks his other man by Diaz actually feeling his punch and it having some sort of affect.

Hatton/Senchenko - having already failed at the highest level, spent my time reveling in past glories, then decided upon an ill fated comeback and was left a weeping, snot covered mess with everyone looking at me with a mixture of disgust, pity and hilarity.
Scott Quigg - giving it the large one without ever having done the business and spend my time making do with inferior substitutes who are paid poorly for their services.

Re: Hagler-Hearns: 8 Minutes In Hell
Totally agree with milky's take on Hagler-Hearns and Truss's scoring of the action as far as it went; a great first round, no doubt, but I could never call it a truly "great fight". Different from something of similar explosive brevity like Mancini-Frias or Dempsey-Firpo, in that apart from that brief moment when the iron-jawed Hagler was, unthinkably, wobbled, there was an inevitability about the conclusion to which all the frenetic action was leading. With the benefit of hindsight, obviously.
As for this unhealthy stream of comparing fights to sex lives, I can only conclude that some people have taken too much sun! Like most married men, with a short peak behind him and a long, debilitating descent into irrelevance to follow, up against an oppponent whose best years seem to be endless, mine is a sorry tale of unfulfilled promise. Forsaking the all-round style that briefly took me to the top, I've now resorted to wham, bam, thank you ma'am tactics against someone who is much too crafty a counter-puncher for me. Starling-Honeyghan is a cruel, but accurate, summary of the situation. I can only hope that it doesn't unravel completely and turn into Breland-Honeyghan.

Re: Hagler-Hearns: 8 Minutes In Hell
Cheers, shah. More I think about it, more apposite the comparison seems. I started so brightly, probably took the first couple of rounds and had a moment of real success somewhere about Round 3. Just a mirage, sadly. It's been one-way traffic ever since and I'm reduced to tapping her backside in acknowledgement of the fact.

Truss's sex life could be like Roy Jones Jr:
Snaffled one top drawer fighter but then spent years banging out sub par opposition before losing it completely and was then he the one on the end of the banging outs.

Roy Jones Jr and your sex life:
Nailed one elite fighter (Toney) AKA you nailed one hottie 20 years ago
Spent years then fighting average oppo AKA you nailing mingers in that period
Now getting banged out AKA you taking it up the rear end.
I admit it may have been slightly cryptic, DAVE got it though. Which says how smart he is...!
