Post by incontinentia Fri 17 Apr 2015, 9:30 pm

Announced today it's been shown in Ireland/UK around the 22nd June, day after it premieres in the States.

Looking forward to this as True Detective 1 was the best show I seen last year. Yahoo

Ah, good stuff.

Yeah the first series was awesome.
Great chemistry between Harrelson & McConaughey.

Series 2 has a good cast.

Colin Farrell
Vince Vaughan
Rachel McAdams
Taylor Kitsch.

Be good to see how it pans out.

Think it will have a lot to live up to in the sense that WH and MM were excellent.

Certainly looking forward to it.

If it's half as good as the 1st series it will be amazing.

Watched it. Enjoyed it. Been slaughtered by critics though for lacking direction/plot etc. Think anyone who watched the first series will be happy with last nights episode, as we know it is just setting up for the rest of the series and letting us get to know the individual charachters before throwing them all together. However, new viewers (such as my missus) could be extremely offput by that episode as it did have that 'all over the place' feel to it.

Well, it was ok......

Agree it had zero plotline though, was an absolute mess, and didn't have the quality broody acting of MM & Woody to carry it through.

Still don't think Vince Vaughn works, always felt like he was busting to crack a joke.

Know what you mean tophat.
Used to him being a funny guy.

Thought Farrell was good in it. The scene where he beat up that kids dad was intense,
McAdams to.
Kitsch could be good

May be proved wrong, but think the first season maybe better overall.

I thought it was a very strong first episode, and this is from someone who thought the first series was one of the best things on TV over the last decade.  It was achingly predictable that the critics would generally pan it seeing as the first one was so well received, but I really enjoyed the opening to this series.

For those that say it was all over the place, I think you need a reminder on the opening episode of series one which was equally all over the place.  If not more so.  I thought it was pretty obvious what the plot was in episode one, but maybe that's just me.  It will change and evolve anyway, as the first series did.  It won't  become truly apparent what is going on till half way through if it's anything like the first series.

I'm not a fan of Farrell at all, and have rarely been convinced by him, but that changed last night.  I thought he was the standout performer of episode one.  Westisbest is right, the scene on the kids doorstep was superb.  Dark, edgy and brilliantly played.  Farrell's line of "I'm going to buttf*ck your dad with your mum's headless corpse" was brilliant!  SerialDAVE couldn't have delivered it any better.

I also thought Vaughn was perfectly acceptable as well.  Played his character with a good forward defensive shot but there is clearly more to come.

Excellent start for me.

The last scene was really cool. All the protagonists meet and size each other up, and the overhead shot of the nighttime crime scene.

i agree that Farrell was the standout performer, but Taylor Kitsch's character seems very interesting and look forward to see how he develops.

Loved the first episode. It's setting the storyline really nicely.

I don't understand the negative reviews of the first episode. The 'lack of storyline' is synonymous with the first series, but I guess you're always going to have your detractors when a previous season has been so successful.

Not sure what to make of that episode. It was entertaining enough I suppose but nothing special. The ending was quite unexpected
Spoilage:
Vince Vaughn's character has been quite weak so far.

I still remain hopeful that things will pick up in another episode or two.

Well, how do you folks feel about the show 3 episodes in?

imo it's good, but not a patch on the 1st season...so far.

There are a few too many detectives, and a "true" one doesn't seem to be emerging yet. Unlike season 1 where Marty was revealed to be the true detective.

Frank's red haired sidekick Blake is up to something- is he the killer? Seems unlikely, but I'll bet he's helping the Crow guy in some way.

Thought last night's episode was the best of the series, although as you say it still hasn't reached the heights of the first series.

I hope we get to see more of the Mayor's family, as they're really funny. Other the other hand, I hope we see less of Velcoro's ex. It seems like she's been written for a completely different show.

Only real fault I've seen acting wise is
Vince's portrayal. I just can't buy him in that role. The others are fine, especially Colin Farrell but Vaughn is ruining the show for me.

Vaughn getting better, but still can't buy it. He was a massive risk and so far it doesn't look like it has come off.

Enjoying Kitcsh & McAdams though.

I think he projects menace quite well, but some of his lines are really dumb. A lot of pretentious shi'ite.

I believe things are due to bump up a notch in the next episode, about time.

The good thing about TD1 was they had one out of the box character and one in the box character. In TD2 it looks a bit overly complex all round, as if they're trying too hard.

Seems to be a re-hash of season 1: someone has been killed, and the detectives investigate and end up killing the wrong suspect(s). They continue the investigation off the books and realise there is a big conspiracy going on under the protection of powerful families.

Last night's episode was probably the best so far (not very difficult!). Farrell was brilliant, and I look forward to seeing how things go next week between himself and Frank.

I really hope they lose the pretentious dialogue for season 3.

For me, i just liked the way MM & WH were the main characters in the first.

The chemistry was superb between them.

Dont think the chemistry is as good between the characters in this one.

Still cant take VV seriouslly when used to him playing the joker role.

For me CF & RM are the stand outs in this one.

Anyone still watching this?? After the latest episode i STILL don't quite know how i feel about it. Really enjoy some of the scenes, then some of them just seem really poor or boarder line ridiculous. Also the plot just seems to jump all over the place, bringing things back into play that haven't been mentioned for several episodes while also adding new plot lines that just seem to dissappear as quickly as they were introduced. Although i loved the opening scene from the latest episode

You could be right. Think the main saving grace of the entire series is the fact that it is only 8 episodes. Which I guess makes most people (such as myself) think "well it's nearly finished may aswell stick it out to the end". Doubt I would have had the same patience for a 20 episode season!

Like the general consensus I have been largely disappointed with this series. Vaughn was better than expected, but Farrell seemed to supplant acting with mumbling for large parts of the series. Also the plot was pretty hard to follow at parts and the show probably did not grip enough to make you pay the necessary attention to work everything out. Also the pacing of the show was all wrong. The languid pace worked first time round as it suited the deep south setting and scenery, it seems out of place in a major city as for the second series. Pity as the first series was one of the best things I have ever watched.

Meh.

Vaughn got better throughout the series, and I think Farrell got worse.

The whole thing seemed to be up its own bum a bit.

Too many storylines which were introduced with little or no explanation.

I thought Farrell was much much better than VV, who only really stepped up the last 2 episodes.

He really couldn't pull of his character properly until then, whereas Farrell was pretty strong throughout.

McAdams best of the lot tho....
