Toulon choke hold
Missed the Leinster match, was on a train at the time. But saw this clip earlier https://vine.co/v/eaWhrXEFB7p and was shocked that Suta was only penalised. Did Wayne Barnes temporarily lose his cards? What was the touch judge watching?
Clear disregard for a players safety from Suta and as we can see from the fevered and frantic tapping from Strauss he's in clear danger.
Plus by the time they get to ground Suta is still chocking Strauss
Surely this has to be cited and a heavy ban handed out to discourage this sort of play from the game

Isn't 3 matches the precedent, if cited and convicted. Far too many players have gotten away with such dangerous tackles though. Will want to see the incident before passing judgement on this specific case.

I think Owens was the one who called it! Barnes took an age to give even a penalty let alone a yellow.

Well he gave a ridiculous yellow card to Ali Williams for challenging the ball in the air. So it counterbalances.

Re: Toulon choke hold
After the Leinster players hap twice taken Toulon players out in the air in similar ways. So it definitely evens out.
To be honest with his attitude to these incidents, his lack of Interest in making players release at the ruck or stay on side I just don't think he cared, if something didn't make play stop he was unlikely to call it.

The only real problem I have with Barnes is that sometimes you can actually see him battling with his own mind as to whether to blow the whistle or not. His whistle hand goes back and forth towards his mouth, and makes you feel like he's having a guess a bit more often than I'd like.

Choking an opponent is usually deemed as foul play, but it is surprising that is viewed as being OK - and people wonder why Barnes is viewed as a poor referee!

utter tosh
barnes is viewed as an excellent referee. thats why he gets nominated for so many of the biggest matches.
leinster and nz dont like how he interprets the breakdown
only thing i am sad about is that england never get to benefit from his refereeing excellence.
