The v2wrestling podcast - Smashing Pumpkins and Ratings? 8058716

Welcome back to another edition of the v2 Wrestling podcast and welcome to all of our listeners on TNAsylum.com and the 606v2.com forum.

Please note that we are currently looking for contributors to write for v2Wrestling, so if you want to see your article read by a large audience, make sure to get in touch.

This week Adam is joined by Rich, Ethan and Paul with a late run in from Chris late into the show, to talk about the latest news from TNA and WWE.

We kick off the proceedings with a look back at this weeks wrestling news which includes a look at GFWs first signing, the passing of a WWE legend and the horrible commentary blooper from WWE.

The show then moves on to a quick roundup of last weeks TNA action with a particular focus on the the X division match between Manik and Davey Richards, as well as the debut of the Dollhouse. The discussion centres around TJ Perkins aka Manik and more importantly the elevation of the X Division Champioship belt. Is Manik good enough to make the title relevant again and does he need to lose the mask to do it – and that’s the question of the week!

We also look at the heel turn of Taryn Tyrrel – even the podcasts usual TNaysayers agreed it was done very well.

We then move on RAW and look at the main talking points from the show. The debate centres around whether the current product has ever been so bad and why we know that WWE creative read my blogs after announcing an internet based tournament. But as always, we would love to hear your thoughts on whether we know anything!

Our final part of the show features a discussion on the use of celebrities in wrestling after the announcement of Billy Corgan joining TNA. Is this a publicity stunt or is he actually a good signing? Has there ever been a good celebrity cross over? Does anyone rate David Arquettes WCW run or is Adam out there on his own (again). Let us know!

To ask a question or answer any of the above, please email us at wrestling@v2journal.com or contact us through twitter or facebook and please make sure to submit any questions you would like us to discuss!

The v2wrestling podcast - Smashing Pumpkins and Ratings? Empty Re: The v2wrestling podcast - Smashing Pumpkins and Ratings?

Re: GFW money. I think the story going back to the start of 2014 was that Jarrett and Toby Keith tried to buy out TNA. When that didn't work, Jarrett backed himself out of TNA and started setting up GFW. I think the working assumption is that this is with Toby Keith.

He's not a name familiar to us, but he's a country music guy. Though I guess if you are a bit TNA fan, you might remember him appearing and suplexing Jarrett years ago. He also has other business interests, like a chain of restaurants. An estimated worth of 500 Million. In the last 5 years, he's not earned less than 48M per year.

Lucha Underground, Meltzer estimated as costing 20M. I know that would be one hell of a hobby, but he's got enough money to throw a few million at this without noticing.

And I think that his involvement provokes a couple of questions:
1) How much will he throw at this?
2) Jarrett talked about GFW being not just a wrestling show, so will there also be a country music angle to it?

More Over the Top trivia. 80s wrestler "Iron Fist" Clive Myers, wasn't just a really good middleweight wrestler. He was quite an innovator in the UK and did the first ladder match I saw. Myers was also a World Arm Wrestling Champion and was "fight director" for the film. I still find this bout watchable about 35 years on, if you only saw him in WWE you might find his opponent hard to recognise.

The show was great. The highlight of course being that it is okay to call food Oriental, but not people Very Happy

I've still got the last bit to listen to about celebrities in wrestling. So, I'll see what you guys have to say. But off the top of my head. We've had the odd one which was awesome. Tyson was obviously on his way down in '98. But his appearance on Raw and then the build to him being at Mania was really something great. And for those who think Lesnar is overpaid, I think Tyson got about 4M for what he did back then. But most of them are at best a waste of space, but ultimately forgettable. And the odd one just kills the product, like Big Show being beaten up by one of the smallest boxers in the world just killed his aura right out of the trap in WWE.

regarding Manik's potential, I do think he should/will lose the mask eventually. Possibly not immediately after the Revolution's break up, but eventually. I think he should keep the name Manik, because TJ Perkins sounds a little too ordinary. There's nothing wrong with having a character. I do think Manik should be X-Division champion and be the one to elevate the title, but I don't think he needs to be really blunt and blatant about restoring the prestige. Just have him in some great show-stealing matches and put the X-Division title match in the main event of Impact when the World Heavyweight title is not being contested that week.

Wow - this thread went downhill fast! Shocked

Just had a closer look at the pic in the original post and realised Billy Corgan now resembles a cross between Donald Pleasance as Blofeld and Tom Baker's Dr Who. Shocked Shocked Shocked
