Is the Matthew Macklin situation.....Making a mockery of Boxing ??
Loses to Sturm for a world title and gets rewarded with another title shot at Martinez and gets trashed. Beats a stiff gets rewarded with another shot at GGG gets completely trashed !!..........Beats a couple of stiffs and gets knocked clean out by an ordinary 24-4 European.... Then beats a guy anybody on here could beat..
Now he's being lined up for a world shot at Jacobs !!!..........
Come on !!..............

Nah boxings been making a mockery of itself for a while. Catchweights for titles, people suddenly being elevated up world/p4p rankings etc etc.
Macklin isn't the first and he won't be the last to take advantage of the situation. As someone once said to me 'that's how it goes in boxing.'

He should have to earn a shot rather than just get one. Didn't think he was even rated by the WBA, but then they make-up the rules as they go along and Danny Jacobs isn't a real World champion.
Was half expecting an Andy Lee vs Matthew Macklin stadium fight in Ireland. I could see the sense in that, though again Macklin should be made to earn a shot; not get given one cos it sells tickets.

To be fair Smith lasted longer than a couple of rounds and fought his heart out.

It's macklin's 4th shot If/when it happens...........Seems to be pretty much expected.............
Last two times he's been battered and he's lost to an ordinary "opponent" since...

As long as there's been multiple world titles available that's been the way of it, and it'll continue to be as long as multiple titles exist.
To be fair to Macklin, he arugably beat Sturm in a lot of people's eyes, or at least deserved a draw. It was no shocker that he got a shot at a divisional kingpin in Sergio on the back of that. Similarly, while Martinez gave him a bit of a beatdown late on, it was still a creditable performance from Macklin in which he was probably a shade ahead after six or seven rounds. So once more, a fair enough fight for an alphabet titlist in 2013, albeit Golovkin has more expectation on his shoulders than most alphabet strap holders.
The fact that, unlike against Sturm and Martinez, Macklin got an absolute shellacking off Golovkin, combined with the KO loss to Heiland in the meantime, should definitely rule him out of any title fights nowadays though, agree there. But I think there have been worse examples of guys getting multiple shots which haven't been deserved. Mario Veit? Jose Rojas? At least Macklin was or has been generally competitive when he's faced the best fighters going - these guys weren't and still got extra title shots on the back of miserable showings.
Between 2011 and 2013 Macklin was a bit more along the lines of a Yaqui Lopez or Wilfredo Rivera. They kept getting title shots or big-name opponents after falling short in or against them beforehand, but that's because a) the guys beating them were usually top-drawer, and b) even though they weren't winning, they were at least giving a good account of themselves, causing the other guy problems and showing they were worthy to share a ring with them.
I think there are worse culprits and examples than Macklin, but yep, agree he shouldn't be getting a WBA shot now, even if it's only for their 'regular' title.

SOF's got a point there though Truss, it's happening across the board in boxing and you can't complain about one whilst allowing another. That's half of the problem at the minute. Accept it the first time and your setting a precedent that will continue until it's hammered into the ground by the promoters (think PPV's)
Everybody should have to work their way up a ladder that's set out by 1 body, unfortunately that ship sailed a looooong time ago.

Fair enough, thought you was ignoring it because it didn't suit your argument
It's good for the boxers because they're going to earn a bit more and get there names on the map (again in Macks case) and get a bit more exposure. For boxing as a whole it's business as usual and noone other than a vocal few will care. It's crap but that's the way it is

I'd be more interested in Macklin If he got into the "domestic" scene..
Murray, Eubank and Ryder would be interesting fights..

When I heard him say he's after Jacobs I thought it was nonsense. Doesn't deserve it and had a pasting recently and looked shot.
Agree though that he should look to the Brit's for some good fights but he's always seemed to me to think he's better than that. Not disparaging him as a bloke but he does think he's better than he is.

Good fight for Jacobs though, nice and easy job you would expect for him and Macklin has a name as well. So you would think it'd be a nice easy fight and a decent payday for both.
