Dirrell v Degale
This looks like it could be a great fight. Degale looks like his head is in the right place and very confident but a Dirrell at his best is pure world class..
I can see Degale giving him a hard hard time and maybe even getting the better if he is on his game, but still nervous about him getting a decision out there. Also is it me or does Dirrell looks a bit skinny at the weight?
So Hard to call. Heart Says Degale within 9 or 10 rounds, head Says Dirrell in a close UD or SD... getting the home decision.

Re: Dirrell v Degale
Has the potential to be a great or a stinker, depending on if they both come to fight or not.
DeGale seems to have got himself together and shrugged off his ability to postpone his bath and nearly snatch defeat from easy wins.
I quite fancy him to win. Dirrel, as talented as he is, appears to have an temperament problem and looks like an underachiever to me.
Dirrell is certainly capable of winning this but the Degale's recent focus leads me to fancy him to win by late ko.

Re: Dirrell v Degale
I can see a focused Dirrell winning this, for Dirrell's promoters to shell the money out to get this fight State side tells me they fancy it too.
If Dirrell sets the pace I can see Degale looking for a mid round breather like he's done in other fights and this will play into Dirrells hands, Dirrell pts for me.
If Degale pulls this off then its an excellent result no doubt about it.

Odds are against Degale. Not many British fighters go out and win titles in the US in big fights but I hope Degale wins and then hope Groves beats Jack and then set up another Wembley showdown
thats the dream.

Re: Dirrell v Degale
Really hope Chunky can do this, he has grown on me enormously recently. Since joining Hearn he seems to have really realised you need to do more than just win and he seems to understand when to keep your foot on the pedal. Suspect he will need to do that here, as onetwo has said getting the nod overseas is not easy and earlier in his career Degale had a habit of taking naps in fights or allowing rounds to be closer than they need to be, he can't do that here.
Have not seen masses of Dirrell post Froch so don't want to do him a wild disservice but he looked like a guy who did not really like it up him, so not only will keeping busy convince the judges it might discourage Dirrell. Won't be easy, but I fancy Degale to take this by three or four points on the cards.

Re: Dirrell v Degale
Dirrell seems refocused and so does Degale. Tremendously hard fight to pick.
Wouldn't worry TOO much with the judges, Lee got a draw which he could easily have gotten a loss (Or a win) for on PBC, could have jobbed McDonnell on Kameda, and the other Dirrell lost in a fairly scored fight against Jack, Jack is not with Haymon. They have been fair except Burns' fight so far.
Think Degale pulls it off, seems willing to push it more and think the later rounds may resemble his brothers fight the other week, neither seems to like it when it gets tough.

Re: Dirrell v Degale
Haven't bought my Team Chunky hat but wouldn't mind seeing him pull it off. In two minds anyway. Will see how I feel when the bell rings. Perhaps the technical battle of the year so far.
Been looking forward to this one for a while and can't wait to find out if DeGale is as good as some of his fans have always said, I've never really seen it but this might be the fight where he shows us. We all know how good Dirrell can be- faster and more talented than Michael Nunn kind of thing.
But the heart and mental strength is with DeGale. Wouldn't like to call it. First reaction was Dirrell UD but less sure as the fight approaches. The important thing is for DeGale to keep his cool and stick to his gameplan. Don't worry about being robbed, a good showing will lead to big fights, the fans will know the truth.

Re: Dirrell v Degale
Chunky has won me over since his "I'm a bad boy" idiocy period against Groves. I think that loss has done more for him than a win could ever have done. His recent showings, whilst not against absolute top drawer opposition have been streets ahead of Dirrell's.
Dirrell has a question mark over his mentality and De Gale really seems up for this. Provided he doesn't get sucked into Dirrell's likely pot shot and move tactics, I can't see anything but a De Gale win here. I think he will be too focused, too solid and will hit too hard for Dirrell who can go down. Barring any controversial finishes (cuts, ref jumping in early etc) I think Chunky has the ability and underrated power to either KO Dirrell or to put enough hurt on him to make him quit. De Gale TKO 7.

Fancy Dirrell in this big time. DeGale struggled with Groves movement at times and nobody at SMW has faster foot speed than Dirrell.

Re: Dirrell v Degale
The Groves vs Degale fight has no relevance. Its 10 fights ago and a lot has happened since.
Degale's attitude in his last 3 fights or so has vastly improved.
Dirrell is a very talented fighter, I just haven't seen the fire in him that makes a world champ. Until recently, I hadn't seen it in Degale either. But in his last 3 fights he's looked like a man who wants it.
Dirrell had the talent to beat Froch, and he didn't. He had the talent to beat Abraham, and appeared to play "foul". He has the talent to beat Chunky, its just a question if he has the heart.
Still Chunky for me, rounds 6-9 by KO but I won't be surprised if Dirrell finally turns up. Its pretty much "last chance saloon" for him and if his brother's result doesn't act as a wake up call he deserves to lose. Squandering talent is a crime.

Re: Dirrell v Degale
I really fancy DeGale to do it, but he has to put the pressure on Direll early doors. Dirrell has shown twice now that when it comes to the big stage and the big fights that he may be lacking in self belief. Holding and diving are usually associated with the penalty box, but Dirrell has managed to bring it to the ring. I just don't think Dirrell has the mental aptitude, I hope I'm wrong and he's changed as it would definitely make for a better fight.

Probably arguing with Chris Byrd. He was answering him back after the first round, never a good sign.

Got Degale 4 points up, he can't keep leaving it till the last 30 seconds of the round to start throwing punches though.

McDonnell got a close decision last week, no reason why Degale wouldn't.
He looks so amateurish when he throws his power punches, really poor.
