Strengthening your grip Empty Strengthening your grip

Post by Guest Thu Jun 04, 2015 5:46 pm

Just started doing some deadlifts recently, pretty light, working on form and looking to not injure myself, only problem is my grip is bad. I'm lifting the weight with decent form but I don't have a good tight grip on my heaviest lift, any tips on how to put this right? Same with lat pull down but not to the same extent.

I found the same thing sohotnot.

I tried a number of exercises, but he two that really worked for me were:

- Dumbbell shrugs
- Plate pinchers

Plate pinchers are exactly as they sound. Grip weight plates between your fingers and hold for as long as you can https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMP465_MsX4

I've used sponges for 20 years..................Always had a weak grip and straps were no good.....

Buy yourself a couple of sponges and give it a go......Nothing worse than the bar slipping before failure...

I actually use the sponges for everything from holding the bar for squats, bench, curls and shoulder press...

Because a good grip makes you feel more powerful......

A few old wags have called me spongebob at the gym over here:laugh: ...but back home it was a regular trick used by savvy trainers...

Give it a go mate !!

Grips my forte.

Never use straps, always squeeze bar hard. Also try doing deadlifts double overhand until you fail, then use alternate grip.

Hang from a bar as long as possible and do plate pinches

I'm doing double overhand at the moment, is alternate grip better if your grip is not strong? What are the pro's & cons of both? I remember years ago most guys were using alternate grip.

Alternate grip is much easier. It stops the bar from slipping out of your hands. I would to double overhand up to about 160kg. After that I switch to alternate.

Or alternatively, just masturbate furiously and often.

That's what I do and my grip is like a crocodile bite.

Liar!

Last time I w*nked I had ran out of talcum powder so had to use bicarbonate of soda instead. The wife wasn't pleased but it helped me rise to the occasion.

If you jerk off too much it will affect your lifts....

I've been training for twenty five years + and my bench press is still crap..

I don't bench...shoulder won't have it.................

I incline about 8 x 120kg.........But slowly on the negative..........

I'm not a powerlifter.....I make sure I have 100% concentration in the muscle I'm working..

8 x 120kg incline is strong Truss! I couldn't bench that.

Plenty of bodybuilders are STRONG!!

Even on peds it is strong. Controlled reps with over 100kg is good lifting imo.

Sure everyone on the internet benches over 400lbs. I must be going to the wrong gyms, for I don't see many!

Not many natural lifters lifting that, unless they are 20stone.
