RJJ v Maccarinelli
I hadn't heard anything about this, I don't know if you guys have. It's quite sad and bad for the sport, how this can even be touted as a possible fight is beyond me. As we all know both men should have retired years ago.

Jones Jr Vs Maccarinelli Set For Novemebr 28 In Russia
Looks like that goodwill meeting with Vladimir Putin worked ... because Roy Jones Jr. has informed TMZ Sports that he just booked his first fight in his adopted Russia.
RJJ just reached out and told TMZ he’ll be fighting Welsh former WBO cruiserweight champion Enzo Maccarinelli on November 28th.
Maccarinelli is fighting for a title on October 10th and if he wins that belt, the Jones fight would be a title bout.
This is big news because Jones just flew out to Moscow for a face-to-face with Putin -- and asked for Russian citizenship so he could do business in Vlad’s country.
Jones has said his ultimate goal is to help repair U.S./Russia relations.

I'm guessing RJJ is going to improve relations between Russia and the US by fighting in Russia a couple of times. He can then have both the Americans and Russians united in agreement that he should have retired years ago.

It's Rocky IV all over again and only RJJ can pull it off.

This carries on and Roy will be calling himself "wheelchair" or "bedridden" on sports forums. Mind you, Enzo himself might only be one headshot away from having to wear a bib when he eats

Good lord this is a hideous rumour and I hope it's no more than that. If it goes ahead I pray they're both wearing head guards.

In years to come new boxing fans are going to be saying this Roy Jones can't have been that good, look at how many times he was beat, they won't know the bigger picture.
I wish the boxing authorities would take Jones licence off him, its that embarrassing no-one is interested or bothered who he fights, the results means nothing now.

He's a grown man who is sane of mind, so if he wishes to carry on fighting, that's his choice.
People said the same thing about George Foreman, are saying the same things about Mosley, Hopkins but they have earned the right to decide how and when they leave the sport.
Personally i would watch it, doesn't strike me as being barbaric or unfathomable - no more than boxing as a whole.

Jones is finished and has been for a long time, Foreman and Hopkins are exceptions, I hope Roy Jones remains of sane mind and doesn't walk into one brutal beating too many that leaves him talking like a slurring drunk. No sentiment in this sportB.A. BARACUS wrote:Nico the gman wrote:In years to come new boxing fans are going to be saying this Roy Jones can't have been that good, look at how many times he was beat, they won't know the bigger picture.

We can discuss the what if's and maybe's about the wisdom of RJJ continuing fighting all day long but at the end of the day it is his choice. If the authorities deem him physically able to fight, then why shouldn't he?
He may well be putting his health in danger but once again that is up to him. He's a trained fighter, one of the greatest.
The nature of boxing as a sport means he put his life in danger every time he stepped into the ring.
We have a choice whether he watch or not - i personally would

Re: RJJ v Maccarinelli
Most prefer to watch great fighters in their prime, Ali fighting Berbick and Holmes didn't thrill me, everyone to their own, but watching a shadow of once great fighters not for me.B.A. BARACUS wrote:TRUSSMAN66 wrote:That's a silly outlook...

I can't wait for this fight. Because, you know, once it's over, it won't be a thing that's going to happen any more.

It gets worse. Jones hasn't completely ruled out a Collins clash.
