I just want to be clear - this thread is (a) for the benefit of WhoCares and our other French posters who must be fed up with the very UK/Ire bias of our usual threads (b) a hopelessly weak excuse to post pictures of Clemence Poesy and Marion Cotillard.

Re: Champions Cup Pool 2: Bordeaux-Begles v ASM Clermont Auvergne, 15 November
thanks for dedicating that thread to me GC
for the record, am not fed up with the UK-Irish bias otherwise I wont be around those board since the beginning. I even enjoy reading some of the bickering from the Welsh-Irish threads as it gets quite fascinating sometimes
Since the last James bond movie is out today, can I suggest (if you lack inspiration of course) to pick up pictures from the french JB girl list: Léa Seydoux, Bérénice Marlohe, Olga Kurylenko (yes she also holds a french passport), Eva Green. there is older ones as well.
back to this game since we're meant to discuss rugby...it's not looking very good for UBB so far this season. they are moving away from their last seasons free running rugby (their back coach got fired) and are now trying to play a more structured type of rugby (also known as bore fest). the problem is that the entertainment is gone while results aint there (yet). their performance last weekend in Brives was so particularly bad and shameful that I had doubt they were playing the same game as the one witnessed in the RWC final. I expect Clermont to be Clermont and despite playing away to expose badly that UBB team.

You are very welcome, WC.
I have never understood the fuss with Léa Seydoux to be honest.
On the other hand Eva Green has long been a favourite amongst our Edinburgh posters and I think that Bérénice Marlohe has to be one of the most beautiful women in the world. My top tip has long been Elodie Yung whom I think is just about perfect (born in Paris, Cambodian dad, French mum) but nobody else seems to know who she is.
So we expect Bordeaux to get crushed by Clermont? Sounds familiar.

Re: Champions Cup Pool 2: Bordeaux-Begles v ASM Clermont Auvergne, 15 November
Clermont looked a bit shaky last week against Stade. Their scrum struggled,( but what scrum doesn't when up against Slimani and Van Der Merve?) However they came back really strongly in the second half, with the subs. making a big impact.
I think they will have too much power up front for Bordeaux and their backs have generally looked classy.
ASM to win by 10 to 15 points.
PS. Anyone know when AAC joins Bordeaux? I hope he and Buttin will hopefully add a cutting edge to their play.

Official preview:
PREVIEW: Bordeaux-Begles back in the big time
It is so long ago that Rapahel Ibanez' Bordeaux-Begles side last played in the European Cup that they were called by a different name and none of the players are still playing.
You have to go back to 7 November, 1998, for Bordeaux's last game in the top flight of European club rugby - to a 34-21 pool defeat to Stade Francais in Paris. In those days the club was known as Begles-Bordeaux and was in its second, and final, season in the European Cup.
Final, that is, until director of rugby Ibanez found a way to raise his side's game to beat Challenge Cup winners Gloucester Rugby in the play-off for the final place in the Champions Cup. Their 23-22 victory at Sixways came courtesy of a last gasp drop goal from Pierre Bernard.
Now they are back on the main stage and, having ended their European Cup career against French opposition 17 years ago, they resume in Round 1 of the Champions Cup with a clash with the mighty ASM Clermont Auvergne.
For the record, the last Bordeaux-Begles team to play at this level was:
Begles-Bordeaux (v Stade Francais, 7 November, 1998): J Souverbie; A Bouyssie, T Ossard, J Berthe, R MacDonald; P Fauthoux, G Accoceberry; P Collazo, M de Rougemont, O Sourgens, O Brouzet, D Gerard, C Dongieu, L Loppy, M Barrague
Table-topping Clermont found Bordeaux a bit of a handful when they arrived at Stade Marcel Michelin in September. That game went to the wire before ending in a 26-26 draw.
Ibanez' side sit in seventh place in the Top 14 and have only lost once at home to date, an agonising 24-22 defeat to Montpellier. On the plus side, they have beaten Castres Olympique, La Rochelle and Toulouse at Stade Chaban-Delmas so far this term and are ready to make an impact.
Match Facts
•Bordeaux-Bègles have lost both previous games against French opposition in the Champions Cup, however those defeats both came in 1998 (v Stade Francais Paris).
•Bordeaux-Bègles have two wins and a draw to their name from four matches on home soil in the competition.
•Clermont lost their last game against Toulon in the 2014/15 Final, but won six in a row in the competition before that.
•Clermont have won 18 of their last 20 pool games however one of their two defeats in that run came at the hands of French opposition (Racing 92).
•Clermont have won nine of their last 11 matches away from home in the Champions Cup but have only beaten French teams on the road once from six attempts.

tks GC
Sensiball, AAC (and Kepu) are meant to join around the end of november. Buttin has been a bit of disapointment since he joined. the last couple of years sitting on the bench in Clermont sent him backwards and he's struggling to get back to the level he had when he earned his first caps for France.

Re: Champions Cup Pool 2: Bordeaux-Begles v ASM Clermont Auvergne, 15 November
Why did UBB sack their backs coach if he was doing a good job with the rubbing rugby?!
Can't see anything but a Clermont win here, although I wouldn't be surprised if they were their usual selves and made life very difficult for themselves. Do they still have James at 10? Every morning he must wake up stunned that he's still playing at such a level above his skillset!
Oh and can't agree about Eva Green, I've watched both series of Penny Dreadful (so I'm and expert) and there's just something, odd, about her looks.

he was a bit of a loose canon sometimes and did not seem to match with the president "long term ambitions" (ie wasnt deemed capable of bringing them to the next level) . very risky as it allienated some of the players and fans as well.
