IF Fitz is 'British', how do Haye, Fury & Bruno, let alone bloody Cooper, rank ahead of him??!
Populist rubbish.

Re: Boxing News: 10 Greatest British Heavies
Well we can agree on the number 1....If you think he's British! I was about to dissect it but not sure where to start. I might raise my eyebrows at fury at 2, after one win albeit a great one. I'd be coughing very loudly with cooper at 3 and be too busy rolling on the floor with laughter by the time I saw fitz at 6.
Odd is the word.

I wanna know what Daniel Herbert (the creator of the list) was smoking at the time of compiling this list and where I can buy it!

This is the sort of WUM list Truss would come up with!

Herbert once wrote his top ten light heavies without Charles in it. When you consider that this is not that bad.

I was brought up to believe Bruce Woodcock was better than Lennox Lewis, and so I'm very confused.

Not much of a list, but excluding somebody from a 'British' list because they're Welsh isn't very bright either, is it?
Oh, and Fury isn't Irish, either. Born, raised, trained and fought in GB - none of the amiguity of Lewis or Fitz.

I have given Wales their own place as a separate nation.
Trained - might wanna check that again - oh and won the IRISH title.....
Leaves a very poor list don't you think?

No disagreement re rubbish list.
But didn't Fury compete for Brit ABA's? Just googled it and he did indeed do both. Still doesn't make him anymore Irish than me though - I've grandparents from Ireland also.
LOL re Wales comment.

Roy Jones Jr has more of a claim to be Russian than Fury does Irish.
Farr comes from the same town as me and was most definitely British as well as Welsh. Mental transatlantic accent, mind. No idea where that comes from.

If the quote was correct and applied to everyone with foreign DNA, then Nigel Benn, Frank Bruno, Chris Eubank and many others would be just as foreign as Lennox Lewis.superflyweight wrote:rapidringsroad wrote:Surely where you are born denotes your nationality, Lewis and Fitzimmons were both born in England. How can you put Cooper above Fitzimmons? and Fury above Haye get real.

Strictly speaking, if you go on what's being said above (i.e. "Never won a world title), then Akinwande, Bentt & Hide should be there - they all won the WBO title - in Hide's case, twice. Would I put any of them above Bugner, Woodcock & Cockell? Doubtful...

Anyway, Farr was indeed Welsh although I'm sure a few English and Scots jumped on the bandwagon back then
I was knocking off a girl up there years ago and met her in the pub they got that big painting of Farr in
Funnily she was from the same town as where Jimmy Wilde was from. She could punch harder mind

Poor Martin - justifiably comes in 10th place in a list with one person on it and then has to put up with being called a w**ker.
