"What if" - on Boxrec
Anyone noticed a new feature on BoxRec that you can now select "ratings" then "What if".
Then you can select any fighters you want from past an present to face off against each other and it will give you a prediction based on percentage on who they think would win?
Doesn't seem to work well with inactive fighters fighting active fighters?
Like I put in:
Ali vs Fury and it said 1% Ali, 99% Fury??
But some of the others I have done:
Frampton 60% Quigg 40%
and
Muhammad Ali 50% Holmes 50%
Its a cool we feature that obviously needs some work, but if you've got time you should check it out!
Let me know if you have added any new ones yourselves.
Cheers,
Sheng

Slow hand clap......
We're not all unashamedly biased towards fighters we like watching. There are no "GGG top five....definitely....three 606 users agree.....Joe Louis fought slobs..." material on my account

That's just Louis' fanboys making excuses. He's a ducker and he'll be exposed soon. He's the most protected fighter out there and is just another hype job.

Ali 50-50 Holmes...........No way..........Changed my mind about Larry when I saw the novice Tim Witherspoon outbox him and lose a crap decision.....
90 - 10...........
Pick at least 40 heavyweights to beat cruiser Joe Louis...............Tua, Lyle, Young, Witherspoon, Page, Dokes, Thomas...........Even pick Bonecrusher and Haye etc etc.....
Pick most of them to beat Jack Johnson too despite him being in some top 10 lists..
Louis was a product of his times..........My number 2 of all time......But wouldn't last later on..

Re: "What if" - on Boxrec
40 heavies to beat Louis? And you say you're not a WUM.
I saw Tua's name in there. Is this some parallel universe? Am I drunk? Have I died? Am I high? All of the above?
Would Tua be able to fight more than 12? The "he's too small" argument is only appied in an ignorant way, as usual.
Cue "feck I've no comeback, just say 'go away'

Do you have anything to say Coxy aside from this crap?
The 'he's too small' argument is a fairly valid one, it's not a slight on Louis' ability to say that the super heavies would be too big for him especially when had a less than stellar chin. If Tua lands that left hook, he knocks him whilst it's hard to imagine him being knocked out by anyone, it took an absolute nutcase in Ibeabuchi to stand and trade with him. The weight difference between the two could be quite significant, he did throw over 750 punches against Ibeabuchi so think he could handle the pace of a 15 round fight.

Re: "What if" - on Boxrec
HH, it's not valid. No.
You can't say 'oh he's too small' and then completely ignore 'could he do +12?'...? Or more so say he's too small and then ignore the fact that you have heavies (and in general) who are blowing out of their arse in the championship rounds.
I struggle to fathom how a fringe HW beats a great, you wouldn't catch Louis losing to Chris Byrd.
Louis knocked out a 265 giant and smashed him to bits in the process.
Would be be bigger if he fought now?
So yeah your usual rhetoric when it comes to replying to me is as usual tinged with blinkers on your eyes. Too small in 1936? Would be bigger now? Could Tua go beyond 12? Hypothesees that suit your own argument when it suits, call my comment crap and will now get upset for me dissecting it.

You don't magically add weight to Louis, you take him as he was, these generalisations mean absolutely nothing Coxy, Tua could fight at a tempo that Louis never did. I did not ignore the 'could he go past 12' at all, I used one of Tua's most significant fights to suggest that he probably could.
Buddy Baer and Carnera were crap regardless of weight, Tua however was not, if Galento can drop him then he can certainly stop him, you've not dissected anything, in fact you've written a lot without saying anything.

Re: "What if" - on Boxrec
And you can't suddenly add 9 minutes to a fight and make the assumption that the likes of Tua would win... Louis was no slouch, Lewis avoided the left hand with ease to the point it was a mismatch. Yes, Louis got dropped but then reversing it around Tua lost to Byrd.
We could be here all day fella. Let's just agree that without modern nutrition no old fighter could compete with any modern fighter

Re: "What if" - on Boxrec
'You don't magically add weight to Louis' - love the way there's strict criterion in a completely hypothetical naval-gazing exercise!! Would Louis have to beam directly into the ring via whatever magic machine you're hoping to employ?!!
I couldn't imagine many heavyweights beating Joe Louis. Weight doesn't mean a great deal if you could hit like Joe. If he hit Tyson Fury (one of the most useful huge men about) like Steve Cunningham hit him, Fury would stay hit. Holyfield was much smaller than Bowe yet managed to knock him man sausage-eyed on various occasions - the argument that big always trumps great is a load of guff.
What was Tua's best win exactly? Come back to me when you figure that one out.

Floyd v SRL is 99/1 in Floyd's favour. Hard to fathom.

Re: "What if" - on Boxrec
Of course it is md_fan. SRL couldn't fight with the big gloves they use today, would be befuddled fighting only 12 rounds. Scrap that he's one of if not the best of all time and we simply assume he would be fighting in the modern era - wouldn't stand a chance. Heck even Hatton with all his modern nutrition and training would spank him.

I think based on the active vs inactive matchups I've seen it means if they went in the ring now. And 99% is the max.md_fan wrote:Floyd v SRL is 99/1 in Floyd's favour. Hard to fathom.

Re: "What if" - on Boxrec
Yeah agree with Scott, it seems to not really accept inactive vs active fighters - hopefully that glitch gets fixed.
I like the idea, just needs worked on, but is an interesting extra feature on Boxrec, which is one of my favourite boxing webpages!

Re: "What if" - on Boxrec
It would be interesting to understand the set of rules that Boxrec is using to determine the results of these "what if" match-ups. Should be prime vs prime for one thing, then common opponents, weight difference, knockout ratios, class of opposition etc. Do you think they go that deep?

I imagine it works off that.
E.g. Golovkin is rated 1043, Kovalev 1045. Plug them in, 50/50.
EDIT: Not exactly because Brook-Pac is 50/50.
