Fidel Edwards' bowling figures looking painful! 23 overs, no wicket for 145.
200 up for Bairstow.

236-1 in 31 overs for Yorkshire!
Bat for another sixty overs or so and they'll top a thousand!

Re: County Championship 2016 - Division One
Hants so far have used 9 bowlers with Dawson, once upon a time picked solely for his bowling, only getting 3 overs despite being the most economical. I can't decide whether that is Vince just desperately changing things up to halt an onslaught or a new captain losing the plot!
If you're front line bowler has gone wicketless for 145 runs from 23 overs you're not likely to have many places to hide though...
Carberry must be wondering what he's done to annoy the new skipper, he's the only guy other than the Hants keeper to not have a bowl!

King Carlos, Dawson is unwell that is why he isn't bowling. I assure you he would be our main bowler right now! Wood has also gone off injured

Bairstow finally falls for 247. Both he and Plunkett achieved career best scores in that partnership (of 227 at just over 8 an over). I don't suppose that happens very often with long established players.

Alsop, who got Bairstow out, is actually a wicketkeeper. More wickets than Fidel Edwards this match

At Old Trafford, Lancs all out in their first innings for 332 in reply to Notts' 242.
That lead of 90 could well be significant. I'm sure GSC won't be happy that Lancs' last 3 wickets put on more than a ton.

Tidy century for England test hopeful James Vince against the Champions Yorkshire.
Hampshire otherwise limping along at 175/5.

Gently does it for Notts as they try to get a lead and then some. Currently 1 without loss after 6 overs.

Vince out on 119 in the end, but Hampshire hanging in at 237/6.
Nottinghamshire on 32/0 after 25 overs. Proper, proper cricket.

Re: County Championship 2016 - Division One
The 9th wicket partnership took this from a game in the balance to firmly in their favour. Bit disappointing as they fought well to get into that position with the ball.
Some proper digging in going on at the moment. Not that it really matters, plenty of time to force a result.

Stern resistance from Hants who have now batted for 113 overs in their first innings (320 -6).

I like Trott (who's in the late 190s) taking a single at the start of the last two overs, thus leaving a number 11 batsman with an average of 7 to fend off the next five balls.
Very gutsy.
Never mind, he's got his double ton now!

Gotta get that red inker Duty
If they're looking for some experience in the batting line up at 3, you could do a lot worse than Jonathan Trott (what a player)

I think, encroaching on this thread somewhat, that with the recent positive momentum, were best served looking forwards, not back.
Anyway, suspect we're now heading for defeat sometime early tomorrow. Need to bat past lunch tomorrow which looks unlikely.

Great fight from Hampshire today. 121-5 to 450-8 against Yorkshire's bowling attack is some effort

Yep, Jimbo, tremendous effort by your guys today.
Follow on now avoided and barring any last day disasters, you should get a draw tomorrow. Add that to last week's draw against Warks and you should be satisfied with Hants' start to the season.

Ah cheers jimbo. I was wondering what was going on there yesterday!
Also good to see Hants tail wagging so well to hold up Yorks today - follow on avoided as well. Whilst Yorks look the best side in the Div 1 , and I expect will top it again, I do hope that we see a good competition between all sides in the division rather than a few at the top running way ahead of the pack.
Then again as a follower of a side promoted for this season I would be wishing for a closer season!

As another follower of that promoted side, possibly concerning that Lancs seem set for a comfortable win tomorrow over last week's winners Notts.

My pessimism is growing I won't lie, guildford!
Hants, a side a fair few have tipped for relegation, fighting very well at Headingley against the champions.
Lancs, the other promoted side, heading for an impressive and valuable early win.
Then to add a little more to that Somerset, another side a few have tipped for relegation, are enjoying a warm-up game in which just about every player in their side seems to have shown good form prior to Surrey playing them on Sunday.

Very satisfied, Guildford
Injuries a massive problem already though! Topley out for 2 months. Dawson unable to bowl and now Edwards has gone to hospital!
Benkenstein already looking at the loan market.

No problem Carlos
Great to see the lower order contribute, Mclaren is really an asset with the bat + Wood can play too. Better than last week when we had 3 'number 11s'.
With Lancs looking likely to beat Notts, this year could be very close

Hi Jimbo - cricinfo have Hants declaring when you went 9 down. Is that right or is Edwards crocked? Would seem a bold move if you did declare still 140 in arrears although I see you've picked up 2 Yorks wickets early second dig.

Hi Guildford, yep that'ss right. Edwards was carried off the pitch during the warm up today
Solentsport seem to think he's out for at least 2 months. He's had a shocker this game, but last season he was the main reason we stayed in the division.

Cheers, Jimbo. Didn't know that but doubted it was really a declaration by Hants. Tough luck for Edwards and you even though he had a 'mare in Yorks' first dig.

Could be an interesting finish at Hove.
Essex on 159/4 with Cook going well and now partnered by Ryder need 175 more to beat Sussex with a minimum of 39 overs left. Probably too much left to do for either side to get the win but you never know ....

Good recovery partnership 0f 92* for Yorks by Leaning and Ballance after Warks had reduced them to 85 -4. (There's got to be a terrible pun or two with that pair batting together!)

As I may not get a chance again, I'll flag that my outside bet for most runs, Varun Chopra, scored an undefeated ton today, against Yorks. The Warks man is still a long way behind double centurions like Sam Robson but he's made a decent start to the season. He got 50 odd last time out against Middlesex.

This week's fixtures:
Hampshire vs Middlesex
Nottinghamshire vs Yorkshire
Somerset vs Lancashire
Surrey vs Durham
Its early in the season but feel Somerset/Lancs is a big game. Can see both of them struggling this season

Hmm ... I'm not so sure about that, jimbob. I think the game at the Oval is potentially much more significant. I know it's still very early days and it's all very tight from 3rd to 9th in CC1 but if Surrey do badly against Durham, it could begin to look like a difficult season for us. Of those you mention, Lancs have already won their only game - and against Notts who beat us in our opener - so shouldn't be short on belief, but Somerset might well struggle.

So the ECB have barred counties from streaming games because of the conflict they produce with sky
That's sky who show about 2 county championship games a summer
No wonder cricket is dying in this country when you buffoons like those at the ECB running the sport

Yorkshire made a spirited fightback yesterday (Notts 77/0 after 15 overs to 261 all out), but they've had their top order knocked over cheaply again.
26/3, Ball (not Broad!) with 3/13. Root out first ball.

Excellent contest between Notts and Yorks. Partnership between Chris Read and Broad starting to give Notts a sniff of a draw or even an unlikely victory. Just past noon on final day Notts lead by 206 with four wickets in hand.

If you are in for a scrap, Read is one of the first people you want on your side.
Having again seen him yesterday, I'll also flag Collingwood for my Scrappers & Streetwise XI. A month short of his 40th but still winning battles.

BBC were commenting that it was a good day for the oldies with Collingwood's century and Trescothick, passing his half century in Somerset's rearguard action. Reed almost coming into the oldies' category by now, not far short of 38. Notts could yet win that game.

Corporal - it's certainly possible although I would back Yorks' tail to hold out if they got into trouble. That tail is almost as pesky as Read!

All results still possible... Bairstow just fallen, which is a major blow to Yorks as they were looking odds on for the victory. But Yorks have sent in Plunkett at fall of 4th wicket no doubt with the aim of swinging the bat. Now Lees falls, and I'd have thought Yorks might shut up shop. They need 86 off 9.1 overs with five wickets left.... Good game!

Great finish - Yorks lost wickets steadily and had to call off the chase. The 9th wicket fell on 4th ball of last over and Brooks had to survive two balls... Excellent game! Guildford's confidence in the Yorks tail may have survived this very stern test - but maybe only just.

Re: County Championship 2016 - Division One
A good start to the season for us, considering the injuries we've had. To draw with Warwickshire, Yorkshire and Middlesex, who are the 3 strongest teams in the divisionin my opinion, is a good start. Never really been in any ttrouble of losing any of those games either, Yorkshire piled on the runs, granted, but we turned that game round in our favour.
Also good to see Alex Lees getting a couple of hundreds early on this season. (Not one to blow my own trumpet... but I did predict him to get the most runs! Early days I know). At only 23 years old, he can't be too far away from an international call up?
