Do these still happen. And surely it would be better to mix the possibles and probables about slighty. Who would you like to see as your possibles and probables line up. Heres an Irish one after the World Cup:

01 - Cian Healy
02 - Sean Cronin
03 - Mike Ross
04 - Donnacha Ryan
05 - Paul O'Connell
06 - Sean O'Brien
07 - David Wallace
08 - Denis Leamy
09 - Eoin Reddan
10 - Ian Keatley
11 - Keith Earls
12 - Fergus McFadden
13 - Brian O'Driscoll
14 - Andrew Trimble
15 - Rob Kearney

01 - Paddy McAllister
02 - Rory Best
03 - Jamie Hagan
04 - Donnacha O'Callaghan
05 - Dan Tuohy
06 - Stephen Ferris
07 - Shane Jennings
08 - Jamie Heaslip
09 - Conor Murray
10 - Jonathon Sexton
11 - Luke Fitzgerald
12 - Gordon Darcy
13 - Nevin Spence
14 - Tommy Bowe
15 - Felix Jones

Here's a 3rd string side they use for subs between them. Tom Court, Mike Sherry, Tony Buckley, Ian Nagle, Devin Toner, Chris Henry, Willie Faloon, Rhys Ruddock, Tomas O'Leary, Ronan O'Gara, Craig Gilroy, Paddy Wallace, Eoin O'Malley, Shane Horgan, Geordan Murphy

Who would win that encounter? And What would your post RWC trial match be for your country?

BTW I think England and France would have amazing probables v possibles games. They have so much depth. It would be an amazing game.

Surely baby Hump is ahead of Keatley? There is going to be quite a few retirements after the world cup. Would be surprised if Paddy Wallace stayed in the fold.

Realistically ROG will still be there. Humphreys will miss out on international honours I feel. O'Gara will be on the bench for next season and I predict Keatley will come along the season after.

It's not up til 2013 - http://www.breakingnews.ie/sport/ogara-extends-munster-and-ireland-contract-482356.html

Its an IRFU contract not a Munster one.

I'm wondering about England. Their Barbarians and Saxons team opens so many possibilities. Even at prop you could have Cobisiero and Cole taking on Sheridan and Stevens. And then Marler and Wilson and them come into it.

Blimey same as BOD. He'll be 36 then and surely Keatley, Humpbor someone else can take up the flack before then?

Still don't see why we didn't enter a team for the Churchill cup. A lot of quality youngsters who could do with some international experience even if it is with the a's

Those teams would produce a really interesting game and I think the possibles centres would show up the probables and would think Banahan is ahead of Lowe at 13 though.

To be honest it was just off the top of my head. The 1st team were those I expected to be picked and then the other was made up of players I think 'should' be there abouts. Banahan would of course be on the bench for the 1st team Very Happy

Sky in NZ tried to push for a Probables/Possibles or a South Island/North Island "origin" match instead of the Fiji international this next month - both would have been a good watch.

Right now he's our bench option and maybe pushing to start if O'Callaghan plays like he did in the ML final. But this is a post RWC selection I had in mind.

This is for after the next RWC? Surely it's more interesting to do one for the Rugby World Cup?

If I would imagine a final trial sort of game; with one side featuring the first choice tight five and halfbacks and another featuring the first choice backrow and outside backs.

TEAM A

1 CIAN HEALY
2 RORY BEST
3 MIKE ROSS
4 DONNCHA O'CALLAGHAN
5 PAUL O'CONNELL (c)
6 STEPHEN FERRIS
7 SHANE JENNINGS
8 DENIS LEAMY
9 EOIN REDDAN
10 JONATHAN SEXTON
11 LUKE FITZGERALD
12 PADDY WALLACE
13 FERGUS MCFADDEN
14 ANDREW TRIMBLE
15 FELIX JONES

TEAM B

1 TOM COURT
2 SEAN CRONIN
3 TONY BUCKLEY
4 DONNACHA RYAN
5 LEO CULLEN
6 SEAN O'BRIEN
7 DAVID WALLACE
8 JAMIE HEASLIP
9 CONOR MURRAY
10 RONAN O'GARA
11 KEITH EARLS
12 GORDON D'ARCY
13 BRAIN O'DRISCOLL (c)
14 TOMMY BOWE
15 ROB KEARNEY

My knowledge of rugby is culled from over 58 years watching /playing but was sporadic as other things.Mainly working 7 days a week mostly nights mean`t givin g up something.Just why were trials and the NZ interisland match stopped. was it player burn out, clubsnot releasing players what? In 2008 in NZ Henry used the Crusaders versus Hurricanes match as a test trial.seemed to work despite mass defections won 3Ns and July AI`s without much trouble.
Ambushed by Oz under Deans, and a injury weakened side lost to a great solo try By the Boks in Dunedin.

I can see Craig Gilroy really pushing on at Ulster and coming into international fold very quickly.

If it's for after the World Cup, then why is Wallace selected?

Also, why Leamy in the probables and Heaslip in the possibles?

Good point re: Wallace. I have mixed the possible and probables about slightly which I think would be the best mix. Rather than a 1st XV rather than 2nd XV I have opted to go for a mix of each player. That was another question would that reveal more than 1st v 2nd?
