What will be the difference between v2 and the original 606?
Hello Everybody!
This post is directed mostly to the tennis posters on this new site. I'm just wondering if the anti-wum brigade have taken over the asylum?
A pity if so!
I understand a number of fans on 606 were increasingly bitter about the constant rafa/roger bashing and other 'wum' posts. (wum - such a bbcism). But all forums descend/ascend into conflict to some degree, it's the basis of drama, the sine qua non of human interaction no?
Personally I think losing the likes of Unbiased Educator and his jolly ilk would be a terrible shame. So I hope posters are not be banned, posts deleted and dissenting voices shouted down in favour of purely friendly discussion of tennis, and other sports.
Let's face it, we're following fierce competitors, let's not sanitise the followers too much for following suit. It's the way of the web so let's Not always agree to disagree, please!

First off, welcome to the board
In the tennis section we have a good mix of fans and posters and the section is growing by the day.
Regarding wum posts and derogatory comments about a player, they are designed to wind up fans of that player. So yes, if such comments are made they will be edited or deleted.
Constructive criticism of a player is fine when backed up with an argument.
We ask that members have respect for other posters and follow the golden rule: "Treat others as you would want to be treated"

Something I've seen on another forum is a "WUM" section. Just as a suggestion we could include one. All WUMS would still be edited or deleted unless they posted it in the specific section for WUM threads.
Just a suggestion.

Ok, so a bit less tolerant and a bit more serious seems to be the answer. C'est la vie!

"i cant speak for all sections, but on the cricket thread, atm, there is no wums."
And after the shambles that 606 descended into over the last few months, long may it continue.
Unfortunately, there is now one of the WUMs on the tennis board, who is there with the approval of one of the moderators. Similarly, one of the main contributors on the motorsports boards is a rather strange character who has a unique style of winding everyone else up.
Obviously there will be disagreements between posters, but as long as their opinions are well reasoned, that's the purpose of this type of board. Sometimes this will descend into a bit of humerous WUMming. However, when someone is starting a thread purely as a WUM the mods should be a bit stricter (certainly compared with the soft touch that 606 was). Otherwise, the quality stuff (and there are some very good threads out there) gets lost amongst the dross.

dummy_half, remember that in general we mods are reactive mods, we need you to report posts so we know that you have a problem with them.

Thanks for your response. The issue with the particular thread on the tennis board is that someone did raise the issue with a moderator, who gave the thread a clean bill of health despite those of us who have come from 606 knowing that this was a well known WUMmer from there (also one who seemed to use multiple login IDs), and that it was basically a recycled post that appears every few months.
I'm not so fussed about the motorsport board, as that seems pretty dead anyway - most of the good 606 contributors having gone to a specialist site.

Also, when someone is starting a thread purely to WUM it will be deleted. If there is an opinion in there (however much others may disagree) we will endeavour to leave the post, as it is through disagreements the best debate is sparked.
If you think a point is ridiculous, either put together a post that rips the points (and not the poster) apart - or ignore it and let it drop down the board.
Dummy, whatever someone was on BBC606 has no bearing on how they are treated here. We judge on posts made here and here alone.

If somebody does start WUMing on this site, they are usually dealt with pretty quickly when people bring our attention to them.
I'm not a mod of the tennis section, but I know that you've had a few problems in there, but all the admins and mods of that section have been working hard to rid it of any WUMs and keep a high standard.

Re: What will be the difference between v2 and the original 606?
Good to hear that there is an intention to keep the WUMming down. It was just a bit disappointing that one slipped through.
I appreciate Enforcer's point, that it is only really fair to judge posts and posters by what they put on these boards, however you also have to appreciate that there is a past history between some of the posters that has hung over from 606. As such, there will inevitably be some intolerance for certain posters.
As an aside, is there a policy on multiple IDs? I guess that would need monitoring of the IP address that posts are coming from.

We do everything we can to make sure nobody can have multiple IDs, if you suspect somebody of being somebody else on the board as well, the best thing to do would be to PM an admin with your suspiscion.

Dummy_half we don't really want discussion of how and why we moderate here. If you have concerns over the way posts are handled then you should contact a mod or admin privately.

Re: What will be the difference between v2 and the original 606?
Jarvik,
There are some differences. The Mods and Admins are happy to join in with debates and are very approachable. The WUMing is not as bad as it was on 606. My guess is that some of the bad ones just are not bothered with looking elsewhere. Aisde from that I have been to other forums and this is by far the most user friendly forum and has new people who didn't come from 606 too which is also good. I think provided people treat it with the respect they did at 606.
As YI Man said 'Treat others how would you liked to be treated'
