Boxing from Goodison
Morning all,
Any thoughts on the Bellew fight this weekend?
For me Tony always talks a better game than he has. I can see him being knocked out in the 2nd half of the fight. Hope I'm wrong but don't see him as genuine world class. I think his aim will be to stink the place out to a points win.
On the underunder card Stephen Smith in a fight with the guy who had the fight of the year with Tommy Coyle a couple of years ago but was then easily taken out by Luke Campbell. Could be fun whilst it lasts.
Callum and Paul Smith both on the card as well.
Cheers

I wont be watching. Expect Bellew to do a lot of clinching, mouthing off and walking sideways with his flat feet. Then be cringeworthy with his bad attempt at being humble after the fight. Really not sure why anybody would pay to see a guy who has disappointed everytime he has talked up an exciting fight.

David Price making his come back too. He's been banned from coming into the ring to YNWA

I'm sure he'll be about as popular as a French kiss at a funeral. Looking forward to seeing what kind of unambitious slob they've got for Price to feast on and not throw any punches in the general vicinity of his chin

... rumour has it David Haye's 'opponent' has not yet left the country Dave.

he dispatches him inside a round, you can then build up a grudge match between Haye and David Price.

Perhaps Evertonians are just desperate so see some kind of desire to win at that ground for a change

Re: Boxing from Goodison
Yeh not watching it. Bellew bores me, he isn't world class and never will be no matter what happens this weekend. Stepped up to the plate at LHW and got knocked into next year, then steps to the easiest division known to boxing beats cleverley and is now fighting the best.....Lebedev.....sorry.....Makabu.
He will win, then retire, he won't unify, no need to get another hiding.
he has to put food on the table.

Re: Boxing from Goodison
We all realise now that Price isn't the real deal but I would like to see him get a decent pay day seeing he has only lost to drugs cheats. Also nice to see him in at Goodison where he won't have it quite so cosy. Seems to have been pampered a little too much in his career. A bit of animosity will do him good. Having said that Liverpudlians tend to cheer on their own whether they are red or blue so what do I know?
Also Ricky Burns and Connor Benn on on Saturday night. Looking forward to seeing both of them. Plenty of boxing about at the mo.

Just seen on boxrec as well on the Goodison card Kristian Laight is fighting. One of the great journey men. Record of 11-224-7 only ko'ed 5 times. A credit to the sport. Without these sort of guys boxing wouldn't exist.

Ricky Burns could be Scotland's first three weight world champion if he wins at the weekend and only the third Brit after Bob Fitzsimmons and Duke McKenzie to achieve the feat.

Yeah, he did some acting as a boxer who fought at the same stadium.

Thought a few days ago that you couldn't hope
to script a way Junior doesn't knock Bellew into
next Sunday, but I've been told that he split with
Mustafa and that his brother was training. Oh and
instead of his usual Vegas preparation for the
fight, he's been prepping in the dark jungles of
the Congo. Lord knows who he's sparred with
there. Maybe a silver back

Your second comment on a thread about it though. Largely saying the same thing as your first oddly enough.

Re: Boxing from Goodison
Makabu will knock Bellew out, very confident of that. He sparked out Mchunu who I reckon would probably beat Bellew, same with Fields, who isn't that bad and would give Bellew a fight and a half.

Re: Boxing from Goodison
Be interesting to see how Price gets on. According to him he'd be the undisputed world champ if his opponents weren't juicing. His chin is also granite and isnt a huge problem, it's just their punches were 50 times harder because of the drugs probably.

Price weighed in at over 270. A sign that perhaps he isn't quite as dedicated as he once was?

Do Rocco looked outclassed.
Really pleased for Ricky. Hope he clears his debts and gets a nest egg together.
I thought he beat Figuaroa as well.

Re: Boxing from Goodison
Well done, Ricky. Likeable guy and am happy for him. Let's be honest though, one of the most average three-weight world champions there's ever been? Or, to put it more positively, one of the greatest overachievers (on paper) there's ever been?
DiRocco didn't even seem to live up to the European level tag he carried into the ring.
Happy for Ricky though. Thought his career would fade out after Crawford and his trajectory since, and I know he's had FW-related money worries, so good on him.

Qoix, burns has are always been a bit flaky. Some great performances and some stinkers. Maybe his style, maybe he's not the most adaptive?
He dismantled Mitchell, looked good against Katsidis, did a number tonight and, I thought, best Figueroa. But he struggled against Beltran etc.
I'm not sure he's the worst 3 weight champ. Hope he fights and beats him next, Broker.

Wouldn't fancy him against Broner. Have always felt you need a bit of power to keep Broner honest, which Ricky simply doesn't posses.
I would like to see Broner in against Joshua. Or a Siberian tiger. Or anyone with a baseball bat. You know, just because he's that much of a lady-cave.

Scott Cardle dragged into another fight and another cut. Doesn't look like he will get to the top.

Re: Boxing from Goodison
Thing about Cardle is his style is very energy consuming and hard to do for 3 minutes of every round especially as he doesn't carry a lot of pop in his punches so Normally is required to work hard the entire fight
He's slick untill he slows down and gets caught cleanly and a lot, his instinct is to fight back but while he throws a lot he normally seems outgunned power wise and ends up giving up rounds
Good fighter but doesn't quite have enough to go much further than domestic/euro level, and that's if his skin stops breaking as often as it is
