Re: Euro 2016 Discussion
The 82 world cup had some classic games, goals (mostly from Brazil) and the greatest goal celebration I've ever seen.

Re: Euro 2016 Discussion
Italia 90 was probably my favourite tournament.
Our first time to qualify.
Big Jack in charge.
England Holland and Egypt in the group.
The penalty shoot out win against Romania.
Bonner's save then O Leary scoring.
The heartbreak of going out to Italy.
Did like Cameroon in that tournament.
Roger Milla.
USA 94 was decent.
Euro 88 to
02 was good aswell.
I did like Brazil 2 years ago.
I normally get quite bored by semi final time, so may not watch anymore of the euros.
I enjoy the qualifications more than the actual tournaments at times.

Heh - funny you should say that. I was 15 but still remember it quite well. Been watching some of England's games during Italia 90 and Euro 96 and we weren't actually as good as I've often liked to think. Needed a bit of luck to get to the semis in both tournaments.
Still, the fact is we did get there, which still makes those teams better than anything we've had since.
Predictions:
Wales 1 - 1 Portugal aet (Portugal win on penalties)
France 1 - 2 Germany
Portugal 0 - 2 Germany

We did have a bit of luck getting there but no luck in either semi.

Re: Euro 2016 Discussion
Tonight's good omen:
Only once has a team from the British Isles won in the semi-finals of a major international tournament - England in 1966.
The opposition? Portugal.
That Portugal was rather different, however, winning 4/4 before Sir Bobby Charlton outshone Eusebio. Tonight, let us hope that Gareth Bale outshines Ronaldo.

I'm hoping the Welsh will come through, but have a feeling Ronaldo might have a good day against Williams and co.

Not a fan of the Welsh by any stretch as STEFFAN will tell you although to be fair it's more that I'm no fan of Steffan, but all that aside, I genuinely hope Wales win if for no other reason that to see Ronaldo cry and have one of him teammates punch him in the face.

James Collins will play tonight, and for that reason I'm supporting Wales

Pepe isn't fit to play, so that makes it 2-2 on the ineligible stakes - Pepe injured, W. Carvalho banned for Portugal; Ramsey and Davies banned for Wales.
I'll stick with the 2-1 Wales in 90 minutes prediction.

I've been trying to work out who Bale reminds me of for a while now (I don't watch football that often so this Euro competition is where I've been seeing most of him). I've finally realised who it is he that reminds me of:

His free kicks nowadays may have dropped off but his heading at set pieces are still the best in the world.

If I were Portugal I'd bring on Gomes and Moutinho and just take the sting out of Wales. Play keep away and make them actively press the ball high.

I've been trying to figure out who Ronaldo reminds me of, realised today it's Oscar Pistorius, I think it's just a general smarminess and tiny head rather than any great similarity in features.
Have to say that Pistorius shoots a lot more accurately though.

Ronaldo to win Euro 2016 is pre written. All that is happening now is in accordance with the prophecy

Looks like its going to have to be Bale who produces something here. Ronaldo getting 1v1 vs Wales CBs, thats the risk they have to take now

Re: Euro 2016 Discussion
Portugal just dont excite me as a team to watch.
Pretty bland.
And then there is Ronaldo.
If they are to win, then i hope France or Germany hand them their a55es in the final.

Wales are trying but not much is happening for them. Portugal have decided that'll do and are just sat deep.

Glad Wales are out, let's face it, Portugal will at least offer threat in the final & make it a decent encounter vs France or Germany, Wales have done brilliantly, but little left in the tank now & got little to offer now. Portugal too experienced & the quality shine through tonight.

How Utd failed to get him but are apparently willing to spend 3x the amount on Pogba is staggering.

Re: Euro 2016 Discussion
Kinda feel like Bales tried a bit too hard to be a team player in this tournament. Seems kinda odd but he's the one world class player in this side, like to see him drive at defenders a few times rather than laying it off.

Bale should be doing what Ronaldo has done in this tournament. Very little defensively & just sticking himself on the last man

Free kicks poor, lost it a few times dribbling- nearly cost them a 3rd goal.
He's been very poor imo.

I would have preferred to see the Portugal of Rui Costa, Figo, Deco and Pauleta winning something than this lot really.

2-0 flatters Portugal but think they've been worthy winners. Occasions got to Wales as it did vs England.

Portugal advance to the Final. 12 years after losing to Greece, can they get the monkey off their back?
