Dustin Johnson had another round of 66 and won another WGC title and a second title in a matter of weeks. No one managed to have more than four picks score points in the final reckoning at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational and no managed to have higher scoring picks than Raycastleunited and TheCleaver. Both had Dustin Johnson and two of the third placed finishers plus a seventh placed finisher. Those two leapfrogged overnight leader AlciG to take finish first and second. AlciG, Davie, McLaren, and Sand also had four picks score points; Sand was the only one to have Dustin Johnson from this group. BlueCoverman, Eyetoldyouso, I'm Never Wrong, LadyPutt, LL Cool Nay, and Pedro all had three scoring picks; LL Cool Nay also had Dustin Johnson. Beninho, EmmDee57, GolferMartin, Kwinigolfer, SetupDetermines, SirBenson, and Super_Realist all had two picks score points; GolferMartin and SirBenson also had Dustin Johnson. Owen10ozzy had one pick score points.
McLaren's Zach Johnson shot 65 for the low round of the day.

Golf at the Rio Olympic Games is fast becoming a farce; players dropping like flies at the mere mention of the Zika virus and a scheduling nightmare not given much thought by the ruling bodies and respective tours. This week sees the WGC Bridgestone Invitational go up against not just the Barracuda Championship opposite field event on the PGA Tour but the French Open which is celebrating it's 100th Anniversary. A smaller than the usually small field tees it up at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio. Seven of the World's Top 10 are here including the new U.S. Open Champion in Dustin Johnson who is now number three in the world.
Shane Lowry is the defending champion and Adam Scott is the only other winner of the Tiger Woods Firestone WGC in the field; Woods has won eight of the seventeen tournaments.
Due to the limited field size the number of picks is scaled back to two from each category plus reserve. This is also a no cut event so the usual cut bonuses are not in effect but additional points are available in round two.

RULES
Picking players: Unless stated, pick a total of 6 players as follows:
Pick 2 players from each category, plus a reserve per category.
Event winner: The person with the most total points at the completion of each event will be declared the winner. In case of a tie, those involved will match-off each picks' final position score in descending order. i.e. Player A's best finish vs. Player B's best finish, Player A's 2nd best finish vs. Player B's 2nd best finish, etc... until one's pick finishes better than the other(s).
If there is a tie after all 6 picks have been matched against each other, those involved will be declared co-winners.
Player Withdrawals: If you pick a player who withdraws during a tournament, that player will be eligible for points for all completed rounds and making the cut if they withdraw after the cut. It must be apparent that the player completed their round for them to be eligible for either the low round, worse round, top 5, or top 10 low round scores. If a player withdraws before starting the tournament then your reserve will be put in that player's place. It is up to you to check that your players are in the starting field.
Holidays / Absences: If you will be absent for an upcoming event (e.g holidays) you may post the numbers on the most recent fantasy league event and the respective tournament(s) that apply or PM them to me. Example: Pick 3 players and 1 reserve from each category and the relative event number or name: Players 4, 5, and 8, reserve 9 from Category A, players 1, 3, and 7, reserve 5 from Category B, players 1, 2 and 17, reserve 12 from Category C, Event #12.
Failure to submit picks: If you do not submit picks you will be awarded zero points.
Deadlines: Picks must ideally be submitted before the first drive is struck on the first day of the tournament. However, late picks submitted after the tournament has begun must be for players who have yet to start (or are not showing a score on europeantour.com, PGATour.com, etc.), and these will not be valid unless they are seconded by any other league member.
All fantasy league disputes and discrepancies will be considered by the League Judge: LadyPutt. All decisions made by the League Judge are final.

Re: Fantasy League 2016 - Summer Session - Event #04 - WGC Bridgestone
INW, sorry to burst you bubble but it's only six picks because the field is so small.
Maybe Adam Scott, Paul Casey, Chris Kirk, Matt Jones, or at a stretch Davis Love could be the basis for your picks.

Re: Fantasy League 2016 - Summer Session - Event #04 - WGC Bridgestone
There are not enough players with vowels as the first letter of their names. so I am giving that idea up. Took me ages to format it as well.
So anyway, here we go with just a random selection of picks.
Cat A - Adam Scott, Bubba Watson (R) Patrick Reed
Cat B - Matt Kuchar, Phil Mickelson (R) Brandt Snedeker
Cat C - Soren Kjeldsen, Harris English (R) James Hahn.
Hope that's better Grumps.

Setup, no. The WGC field despite being smaller is stronger. 40 of the top 50 are playing it and the strength of field is almost three times that of France.

Pedro, you have too many picks. Can you cut them down to two per category otherwise I'll take your first two and make the next one your reserve. Cheers, Grumps

First tee times were 10am in Ohio, 3pm in SW19. All picks and changes made so far or before then are valid and will be accepted.

Can I replace Daniel Berger, he withdrew after a tee shot? If I can, can it be with Shane Lowry...No problem if not!

If he withdrew before starting then not a problem however if he started his round and pulled out then you, LadyPutt, and Super_Realist have been screwed by him.
EDIT: GolfChannel tweeting that he hit the opening tee shot and then withdrew with shoulder problem.
LadyPutt, SirBenson, and Super_Realist all down one pick.
With that one shot Berger earned $50k; that's a stupendous hourly rate!

But people who haven't picked can pick players now but yet a player withdraw's after a tee shot and you can't replace? That makes no sense to me personally.

There is leniency for those who can pick late by 4/5 hours in a normal event, yet absolutely no leniency for when a player withdraws after hitting a drive, absolutely ridiculous.
Where is the fairness or sense in those rules.

The rule is, once a player has teed off, he has "played" and can't be substituted. Your reserve only comes into play if he withdraws before.

It's the same In real life. If a player withdrawals prior to teeing off, an alternate can replace him. Once he has teed off, he can't.

Ah well, It's only a bit of harmless fun, not worth getting upset about. Nobody has died.
I usually come in the bottom 20%, so this only guarantees it. I'm hardly going to lose sleep over it.

William McGirt got off to a flier at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational. His first round score of 64 set the early pace which sees him take a three shot lead into the second round. Eight other players, five of them picks, had rounds of 68 or better to round out the Top Five Low Round scores. Emiliano Grillo and Jason Day had 67s while Anirban Lahiri, Branden Grace, Jordan Spieth, and Rickie Fowler all shot 68.
Two Fantasy Leaguers, McLaren and TheCleaver, picked McGirt. McLaren added two more scoring picks but still shares the lead with AlciG who had four of the five other scoring pioks. TheCleaver added one more scoring pick while BlueCoverman, Davie, and LL Cool Nay also had two scoring picks. EmmDee57, Owen10ozzy, Pedro, Raycastleunited, Sand, SetupDetermines, and SirBenson all had one scoring pick.
Daniel Berger and Brooks Koepka both withdrew during the first round and their withdrawals hit the Fantasy League hard with LadyPutt and Super_Realist taking the worst of it as they had both of them.

Re: Fantasy League 2016 - Summer Session - Event #04 - WGC Bridgestone
Player withdrawals will be looked at for the next session. Most likely it will change to:
1. If a player withdraws during the first round the reserve will replace them. If a reserve isn't selected then a player who hasn't started may replace them.
2. If a player withdraws after the first round then the existing rule applies. They are eligible for points scored from completed rounds or making the cut but will not be replaced by a reserve.
Key item here. Pick a reserve because if a late tee time player withdraws and you don't have a reserve listed it's possible that you will not be able to replace them.
Comments or questions welcomed.

Hmm - your game, your rules ... but personally I'd leave them as they are. Withdrawing during the first round is just bad luck
We're all grateful to you for running this and you should do as you see fit - but I see no need to change this rule

I tend to agree with Davie.
I'm pretty sure we've all been hurt at some time by this rule but I still see no point in changing it and possibly causing you more work.
But if you feel like a change is in order feel free to change it as you see fit. I have no problems whatsoever with the proposed change.

Thanks for the responses. I'll probably set up a vote and let the majority decide. Any rule changes won't take place mid session so there are six more events to go under the existing rules.
