What makes you think that he might be deceased?
I have taken threads to areas of poor taste but leaving fellow posters unsure if someone who was a "friend", at least in the online community sense, is alive or dead takes it to a new level.

"Flying Without Wings" for Chili from Carnoustie
[Shane:]
Everybody's looking for that something
One thing that makes it all complete
You'll find it in the strangest places
Places you never knew it could be
Some find it in the face of their children
Some find it in their lover's eyes
Who can deny the joy it brings
When you've found that special thing
You're flying without wings
[Mark:]
Some find it sharing every morning
Some in their solitary nights
You'll find it in the words of others
A simple line can make you laugh or cry
You'll find it in the deepest friendship
The kind you cherish all your life
And when you know how much that means
You've found that special thing
You're flying without wings
So impossible as they may seem
You've got to fight for every dream
‘Cause who's to know which one you let go
Would have made you complete
[Shane:]
Well, for me it's waking up beside you
To watch the sunrise on your face
To know that I can say I love you
At any given time or place
[Mark:]
It's little things that only I know
Those are the things that make you mine
And it's like flying without wings
‘Cause you're my special thing
I'm flying without wings
[Shane:]
And you're the place my life begins
And you'll be where it ends
[Mark:]
I'm flying without wings

Re: Original Gang - BBC 606 Forum
Hi Wedgo, welcome back, I was on the old forum toward the end, I think I was JAS964 at the time, but I dropped the 964 when I came on here, mainly because I had also dropped the Porsche (the 964 part of the moniker)
I'm still in touch with D4S and meet up a few times a year for a game, he posts and is a course reviewer for Golf Monthly these days. Of the others I played Woodall Spa today with NoShankingTonite (remember him). Also FB friends with the the guy previously know as LondonJohnno (as well as a few others here).
The guy who was in love with Silloth was Shabino. A couple of times we tried to arrange a game but he pulled out last minute.
Doon does indeed live in Ayrshire though not Troon, have played a couple of games on the better Ayrshire munis with him too. Before he moved back North he was the complex Manager at my home course (before I was a member and before I met him on here), his daughter had been lady champion at ours about 10 times, still plays for Ayrshire at county level. Doon's actually a nice guy and to be fair we did give Gael a hard time from time to time (understandable though she did post some complete nonsense at times in between the sensible posts).

It was a shame that Maverick/Fader couldn't just accept he was caught out and continue to post without making stuff up. Other than the humiliation of getting exposed was there really any reason for him to leave? I am sure we would all have been ok with him continuing to post as long as he could accept a bit of mockery.

Diggers was a Sunderland man, wonder what he thinks about having his manager nicked. Turned his life upside down three years ago and trained to be a teacher, in the Brighton area I think.
I would have been on the horse-racing board thirty-odd years ago Eye, but next to no racing coverage here. Miss it almost more than anything.

You may also recall:
Gungla, TWWB, Digbert, Mr.Gulbis, Subpar, Straeh, Ocham, Vulture, Philiptheboy, KATO, Mike’TP, Great Wedge, Pingfan, Parcel, Newport2, Underground, Bigkev76, Gladiator, Dewsweeper and holeinone. Not sure if I've got all the names in full or correct.
Chillidipper was on the BBC606 board for years but, if I recall correctly, stopped posting a while before the board actually finished. Chilli was a mine of information, and up there with the best.

Digbert was "Diggers" on here.
And Dewsweeper briefly looked in, only to exit in flames with a diatribe about some of the non-golf discourse. Redrage and Lairdy pop in very occasionally and goldwolf is now "gw", also an occasional poster and one-time teammate of Gary Boyd.
Keizo was truly certifiable.

Yads, re Maverick, he did come across that way but the whole thing ended up being a lie. If I recall his handicap wasn't the 2 or scratch or whatever he said it was and he wasn't a paratrooper and his daughter wasn't the next Charley Hull.
It was basically all lies. Mac sussed him and will no doubt give you the proper story

I actually can't remember what stopped mav/fader posting here as Mav? did he defect to the bat s**t site? Mav had spent years claiming to be single figure, rich, perfect family, daughter destined for the pro game etc etc...
Anyway, some time after Mav left the forum a poster called Fader joined up and almost immediately I recognized the writing style as Mav's and made the point to fader that I thought he was a phony. Fader claimed a very different life story from Mav, and one that was probably much closer to the truth. Fader was a divorcee, high handicapper, struggling with cash and prevented from seeing his kids.
On one of the first threads this new version of Mav posted on I made comments that I thought he was talking Love sacks but was given stick from all angles.
Not sure at what point he picked up that Fader was Mav but I know Hibbz also had his suspicions about Fader being Mav. At one point on a thread about what people on here might look like Hibbz said he imagined Fader looked like Tom Cruise (Maverick) in Top Gun.
The end for Fader came when he posted a video of his swing which showed the same person that was in a video posted years ago that Mav claimed to be. The reason I remembered the video Mav posted was because it confirmed at the time that he was talking BS about being a 2 handicap because the swing was just so bad, like 18 handicapper at best.
I had a quick look to see if the outing of Fader thread still exists but couldn't see one around the time he made his last post. I can't even remember how we exposed him? Did the mods remove the threads/posts that contained his dishonorable discharge? I can't even remember if I just informed a mod or challenged him in the open. Whatever the case he left and did not want to confront his fraud.
Someone also pointed out to me once that there is a Fader on the golf monthly forum which is probably the same guy.

Re: Original Gang - BBC 606 Forum
Didn't Fader initially deny being Maverick after Mac and a couple of others sussed him out, but then the mods confirmed that both "characters" posted from the same IP address? I think he was so ashamed he decided to retire. Fader was his second attempt after all, he must have been a terribly insecure guy, so staying would have been too humiliating for him.
Maverick had a lot of people fooled, especially Londonjonnyo, and he kept it going for years. Diggers never believed him, he smelt the bull from the start. Hibbz was sceptical too, and called him out. I remember Mav posting something about driving the green on 2 par 4s in one round and Hibbz was able to point out several inconsistencies.
The turning point for me was after I posted about scoring an albatross at Littlestone, which Mav claimed to be his home course, and he didn't comment on it even though it was a thread he was commenting on at the time. It just seemed unusual to me. I kept it to myself, but after that I was more sceptical of his posts, and once you change your mindset it was easy to spot the holes and realise how ridiculous were those posts about his 8 year old daughter going from beginner to 11 handicapper in no time

Quite possibly, tho' I'd forgotten about that.
I DO remember he decided to have a punt on a Senior event in North Carolina and I told him to go RW Eaks e.w. and he'd never heard of him (probably thought Eaks and I were about the same vintage). He won at about 33's and I didn't hear much from him after that - but he used to get banned so frequently and beg himself back in, you'd never know why he disappeared for good (bad).
Quite the character.
Always amusing . . . . . . .

Hi all
Anyone remember me? I don't post on here anymore, completely forgot about the site to be honest until I met up with Ladyputt in St Andrews a couple of weeks ago.
Glad to see it is still going strong and many of the original crowd are still here
I'm a regular poster on the Golf Monthly forum these days. Now I don't want to start a riot but you guys should pop over and have a look. Loads going on over there and lots of stuff contributed by the magazine such as days out, equipment etc etc.
NO REASON at all why you can't be on both forums!
Anyway, glad to see life goes on

NO REASON at all why you can't be on both forums!
Anyway, glad to see life goes on
