The Prediction Thread 2016-17 Empty The Prediction Thread 2016-17

Post by Hero Wed 03 Aug 2016, 12:47 pm

So it’s that time of year again where we all gaze into the crystal ball for the season ahead and in general then end up with egg on our faces (see below!).

Here’s a few highlights from last year’s predictions:

Champions – Well the vast majority of people thought it was a straight fight between Chelsea and City, how wrong we were!
Top Four – Every single person thought the top four would be a mixture of Chelsea, City, Utd and Arsenal apart from Nando who thought Liverpool would pip Utd to 4th. Again no-one comes up smelling of roses there!
Relegated – GSC, Nick, Dolphin, Crimey & Miky all predicted eventual champions Leicester would be relegated, Duty thought West Ham would go down. Kudos though to Kayfabe & Fernando who both predicted that Villa would go down.
FA Cup – Myself and Dolph both were bang on in guessing Utd would win it.
League Cup – Most people predicted Utd would win this one, no one was correct.
Player of the Year – Some right stinkers in this one including my prediction of Bastian ‘can’t catch a cold’ Schweinsteiger, GSC picked Fabregas, Trebs & Miky picked Hazard, Duty picked Theo (unsurprisingly).
Best Transfer – Miky went for Jordy Clasie, Duty and I went for Schweinsteiger, Trebs though possibly picked the crème with his choice of Falcao. Most left field though was Nando’s choice of Benzema, who wasn’t transferred.
Young Player of the Year – Possibly a worse list than POTY! I went for Memphis Depay (as did Dolphin & Miky), GSC & Nando went for Sterling, Crimey went for Ibe (who’d have thought that?) CFCNick went for Patrick Bamford? Highlight thought was Nick’s choice of Chuka Akpom who scored a majestic 3 goals for Wolves… in the Championship.
Punching above their weight team – Noone picked Leicester but 4 people picked West Ham.
Top Goalscorer – Despite his soothsayers ability on Brexit, his visions on football are badly let down, Duty picked Danny Welbeck to end the season as top scorer (he scored 5 goals). Most people went with Costa.
Biggest disappointment (team and player) – CFCNick, Kayfabe & myself went with Sterling, Crimey picked Memphis, Trebs picked Costa. GSC went with Kane, how happy was he when the Euros came round?

But that’s last year, let’s see how you all get on this season…

What would Leicester have to do to be considered a disappointment this season?

Short of flirting with relegation, I think it's really difficult for them to disappoint. Whilst they can have a big drop off in performance from last year, surely that's expected? Considering they were favourites for relegation last year, any kind of decent place in the league would be at the very least acceptable.

Would expect Leicester to go hell for leather and try amass as many league points as possible before they start their CL campaign as I think their form will suffer once they're in Europe.

I predict Liverpool to spend about three weeks flirting with top four before tailing off and whoever snaps up Mahrez to give themselves a great chance of winning the title.
