Luke Campbell to fight Derry Mathews on Tony Bellew undercard

Good fight for Campbell and will give us an idea if he's progressed after his loss. Not sure how much Derry has left in the tank but he's big at the weight and usually gives his opponents a tough fight.

Yeh, decent bench marker. Don't think Campbell will ever cut it at world level but he seems a nice kid so hopefully does alright. Sadly for him he's not in a soft division like Bellew who is a joke of a world champ.

both need to win for various reasons. more so campbell. Fair play to him for taking the fight, but if his career went as expected we'd assume he would walk through Mathews.

This is a tough old fight for Luke - Mathews is likely the biggest puncher he's been in with and is the only man to have stopped Ant Crolla. Excellent fight.

Huge over achiever Mathews....Crolla 1.5/2....Coyle....An abc on his wall..

Saw him lose a few times and thought he was crap (I was wrong) only to see him come back like a jack in the box....

Huge credit to him...

However if Campbell has any high aspirations he really has to beat Mathews....and I think he'll do it pretty comfortably...

Mathews despite being one of the great survivors isn't world class...He isn't getting any younger and he'll be coming in off a loss...

But it is a fight that could tell us more about Luke..

Campbell needs to get his head in the game (I appreciate his father's illness may have lead to him taking his eye off the ball at times) but if he's not focused Mathews will drag him into an ugly scrap. On his day, Campbell is a tidy little fighter but needs to get a bit nastier.

He does seem too nice for a boxer...

Looked ordinary in his last fight too.

But I think he has the tools and I would watch Crolla v Campbell if it had a decent undercard.

More interesting than G v Kell.

Cruiserweight is one of the most stacked divisions in boxing.....

There are some superb fighters at Cruiser and Bellew won't have that title long

There's a couple of tough old duffers in Lebedev & Huck. Then what?

Hardly stacked.

Easter Jr is probably more talented than any of those (ignoring Usyk for now). Then Coolhand has Flanagan, Crolla, Linares and Bart to contend with (all at or above the kind of level of Huck & Leb). If he fancies a few pounds higher he's got Crawford, Postol etc or a few pounds lower he's got Loma and Walters and others.

Think Bellew (having won his title against a 91-1 nobody who'd never left Africa) had and has it a lot easier.
