Rome: Total War
I'm looking at buying this off Amazon, it's only £4.60 and I've currently got free next day delivery so I may aswell get it while I don't have to pay for the delivery, but I was wondering if I should buy just the game or buy it with the expansion packs? It's only £4.31 more to get both of the expansion packs, I know I like the game anyway so I'm not sure that I need them, has anyone played on the expansion packs and are they worth it? Also will this game run on Windows Vista?

I hope so, but really for less than £5 I can cope with it not working on Vista, I'll just have to use it on my old computer instead of my laptop. Have you played on any of the expansion packs?

No but I'm sure they're sound. I'm playing Shogun 2 atm, and it's quality!

I don't think I'll bother buying it with the the expansion packs, will instead use the money saved on buying a different Total War game. Which would you say is the best of the other games? I've only played Rome: Total War properly some of the others at a mates house.

I really enjoyed Medieval 2, but Shogun 1 is my favourite. Original and best!

What was it you didn't like about the Barbarian Invasion? Have you played the Alexander expansion?

Re: Rome: Total War
haven't played Alexander so can't comment, Barbarian invasion if i recall rightly i didn't like how you had to keep moving etc, i dont think you could hold a place down the same way as the first rome, i just found it awkward/annoying.

Thanks for that Hodge, that sounds like something I would find pretty annoying too.

Also guys I was just wondering if anyone knows the difference between the normal game or it being the white label version, is there any reason for the white label version being cheaper?

Good to hear I'm happy to get the cheaper version if it doesn't affect game play. By the way if you don't mind second hand games check out Game's selection went to my local one the other day and could get Empire, Rome and Medieval total war and it was £10 for the three or £4.99 each but I decided against it, just because I wanted to get them from new and not too interested in Empire total war.

Re: Rome: Total War
I have just bought Shogun 2, but have spent many a Sunday afternoon playing Rome and Medieval.
Great games, in my opinion, though I thought it was a shame I couldn't play as the Mongols in the Medieval expansion, would have loved that.
Annoying that generals that come of age, or are married into your family, are always located at the capital though. Surely this should be spread throughout your cities, as it becomes ridiculous when you have to send generals from your capital half way across the earth to help pacify the moody civilians in conquered cities. Someone please tell me there is a way around this?

When they come of age they will be found in the same place as where their father is, not too sure about what happens when they're married but I assume they turn up in the same place as their new father in law. If you change your auto-managed policy then the civilians shouldn't be so moody, I normally move my closest general to a moody place recruit some extra troops and build any buildings which can raise public order.Fists of Fury wrote:Annoying that generals that come of age, or are married into your family, are always located at the capital though. Re: Rome: Total War
Oh ok maybe I am wrong then, I just seem to get a huge amount of youngsters congregating at my capital! Maybe just unlucky.
Thanks for the input, mate.

Re: Rome: Total War
Fists maybe it's a change for Shogun 2, but maybe check the traits of those family members you have in your capital, some can reduce or increase the chances of children, also if they have quite a few daughters then I would expect when they get married that's where their husbands will appear.

Re: Rome: Total War
Was talking about Rome, not Shogun, sorry should have been clearer.
Maybe I was just unlucky and everyone appeared at my capital through coincidence once, then.
