Joe signs on for the World Cup!!
hhttp://www.independent.ie/sport/rugby/international-rugby/ireland-coach-joe-schmidt-commits-for-world-cup-campaign-35034698.html
So Joe has reportedly put pen to paper and signed on until the 2019 World Cup. Great news for team Ireland.

Rumour has it that Ireland wanted to snatch Gatland but had to wait for confirmation of whether or not he'd be coaching the Lions again. Obviously he was the best guy for the job having been there, done it, won the series, got the tshirt and all that on top of everything else the man has won. Too bad you're settling for the second best kiwi coach in the NH.

Don't think Gatland did win the series with Ireland did he? Joint on points was his best?

Rumour has it that Gatland got the Lions job again because Joe turned it down to concentrate on Ireland. Jones also figures Nation is the bigger deal.
Anyway, there's rumours for you.
Irish fans are happy. Jack McGrath can head off to the Lions with Gatland and the rest of the lads can look forward to getting down and dirty under Saint Joe.

Why do we have to lose McGrath, surely a Munster or Ulster player can go instead (maybe even a Connacht player, they are the best team in Ireland now).

Telegraph says only one Irish player is on the team and it's McGrath. Gatland has spoken, so shall it be.

I actually think this might not be a bad Lions Tour to go on as a fringe player - the mid-week games are going to be good. On the 2005 tour which Clive had split into Test & Mid-Week groups, Ronan O'Gara said they had a ball and the Test Team had an absolute nightmare.
I think Eddie O'Sullivan was in charge of the mid-week team in 2005.

Don't mention Eddie!!!!
Gats doesn't ever want to hear nothing more about BOD or EOS. He's trying to be a nicer, more mellow man these days, he doesn't want to let the all-encompassing hate in again.

Fantastic news, and even better that he's not coaching the Lions. If only the Telegraph predictions would prove true.

Perfect time to put that trip to SA behind them and get our first ever win over the All Blacks.......followed two weeks later by our second.
Then we only lose McGrath to the Lions so get a good run up to target the World Cup. Onwards and upwards

Re: Joe signs on for the World Cup!!
Darn tootin'. Joe should now become more brutal and demand that no Irish player deserts Ireland to play for the Lions! Enough messing around!
Cue stampede of offended Lionski-ites crying 'Traitor!!"
Oh tis a lovely wee sport all the same, this rugby....

Excellent, excellent news. To have that continuity with such a strategic coach gives us a great chance to perform very well in the 2019 World Cup. I may not agree with some of his selection calls but his record more than speaks for itself. Whoever he selects, he has ample time to create a truly competitive squad.

I agree Connacht have gotten ideas above their station and must now suffer the indignity of seeing several of their key players playing in a robotically predictable Gatland team- the poor blighters.

So Schmidt is apparently staying put until 2019 RWC. He's not going to do Lions tour in 2017.
Target is two more Six Nations titles, the 2018 Oz series and semis of RWC 2019.

What about the IRFU succession policy and the fact that Joe is blocking a much inferior Irish coach. What a sham.....
