Edinburgh vs Harlequins - Saturday 22 October 2016
First topic message reminder :
Game: Edinburgh vs Harlequins
Date: Saturday 22nd October 2016
Kick-off: 3:15pm
Venue: BT Murrayfield
Competition: Mickey Mouse Cup - Pool 5
Form:
Timisoara Saracens 17 - 59 Edinburgh Rugby
Harlequins 43 - 21 Stade Francais
Interesting Facts:
Edinburgh - The Edinburgh District side was formed in 1872 to play against a Glasgow District side. The teams met on 23 November 1872 at Burnbrae and Edinburgh won 3–0 in a 20-a-side fixture. This is the oldest inter-district match in the world and to mark this the current Glasgow and Edinburgh sides play for the 1872 Cup every year, which Edinburgh typically wins handsomely.
Harlequins - The Hampstead Football Club was founded in 1866 and the first recorded game took place in 1867. The club was renamed Harlequin Rugby Football Club in 1870, supposedly because the membership was no longer purely local but the HFC monogram had to be retained. The word 'Harlequin' was found in a dictionary and all present agreed to the new name. This caused a split in the membership and the half that did not form the Harlequins went off and formed the club now known as Wasps.
Head to head: Edinburgh have never played Quins in European competition before.

Allen over Dean would be an obvious improvement, but it's a strong Edinburgh side.
The scrum half merry-go-round continues. I presume Fowles will be starting the next game with Kennedy on the bench. I do wish they'd pick one, preferably SH-C, and give him a decent run.
I'm assuming Arregui isn't World Class, but hopefully he can offer Nel some respite in the coming weeks.

Read somewhere earlier on in the week that Jackson has been struggling with injury the last few weeks and that's why he hasn't been playing. Didn't say what the injury was.

He has been on and off the bench (including last weekend), I think that it is more that he is the third choice!

I think he hurt his hamstring a couple of games back and hasn't got right since

Regarding Fowles, there was a bit of a niggle between him and Cochrane near the end of the Saracens game last week (~75 mins). Cochrane was holding him by the shirt at arms length. It was exactly what you see when the handbags are calming down but it was between two players on the same team.
I know scrum halves are meant to be nippy but that's taking it too far.

Flatman said he expects Hamish Watson to pick up a lot of Scotland caps. I do hope that turns out to be the case but its quite a big call to make!

Awful start, hopefully we'll have woken up now after that. Very good reactions from Bradbury to set up that try

Another great try!
What is most pleasing is young Scottish players have been at the heart of this.
Just a shame our bloody restarts are so crap!!

If the ref has asked 'is there any reason' it would have been a try - strange call

24-14 Edinburgh
Late penalty try before halftime keeps them in the game

Hoyland!!! Serious pace there.
A real mixed half that for Edinburgh, some moments of sublime (certainly by our recent standards) attacking rugby but also handing Quins far too much possession and territory - they're too good a team not to punish us for that. We need to tighten up a bit in the second half.
Still, what a change in approach we've seen from Edinburgh. Delighted

The 2 yellow cards spoils things a bit (and gives us a headache losing our 10) but they can't say they weren't warned.
Shame it came from the quins wing tackling Tovey off the ball though!

Thankfully the first half was exactly the type of game that Burleigh can run from 10, so hopefully shouldn't hurt us too much until Tovey is back

If it wasn't so nice here, I'd struggle to understand why Quins seem to hate traveling away from the SE
