Cardiff Blues v Scarlets, Friday 28th October 2016
Seeing as no one else has set up a match thread...
Cardiff Blues made a great start to their European Challenge Cup campaign beating Bristol and Pau to head the pool four table after two rounds.
Blues have lost their last two Guinness PRO12 encounters but have not lost three in a row in the Championship since November 2015.
The Capital side’s only defeat to a fellow Welsh region at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park since December 2013 was to Newport Gwent Dragons in the PRO12 on Boxing Day 2014.
Scarlets have won their last three matches in the Guinness PRO12 but have not won four in a row in the competition since this time last year.
Scarlets only victory in their last five away games in all tournaments was 22-6 in Treviso in the PRO12 round 5.
The west Walians have won three of their last four fixtures against fellow Welsh regions.
The Blues achieved the season’s double over Scarlets last year for the first time since season 2009/10.
Scarlets have not been successful on Cardiff soil since a 9-6 victory at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park in December 2012.
Overall Guinness PRO12 head to head record:

Referee: Lloyd Linton (SRU, 15th competition game)

Such a shame the squads are like 2nd teams. But there's some quality there too. Hopefully enough for a decent match up.

With Matthew Morgan and Tom James in the back three, I'd be putting up garryowens early on.

Like an end of term chuckabout. Saying that, in recent times this fixture has often been at the @rse end of the season.

To be honest that was a bit of justice at the end of the half. Those scrums should never have been started, Dolan was short and we clear it. No need for a scrum. 8-9 mins of dead game due to the ref screwing up on one call. I think he knew it too, otherwise he'd have given the pen try surely.

HOW ON EARTH WAS THERE NO PENALTY TRY THEN!
Never seen a clearer case not given.
Really bad by the referee.

I'm really should've been, if he was giving pens. That said, those scrums really shouldn't have taken place, the ball was a good 6 inches short of the try line, and then cleared.

I don't usually like complaining about refs but there's been some howlers tonight! As a neutral it's been quite funny. The commentary team are having a giggle about it too. How or why did he yellow card Aaron Shingler then?! Bizarre.

It looked like McShingler asked the ref to yellow Aaron as well.

Bet he had a clip around the ear hole from mummy and daddy afterwards for being a sore loser.

An uncharacteristic performance from the Cardiff of this season. I could say that about Scarlets as well I guess. It goes to show that once they stop being soft up front, cut out the mistakes they can win, and win well - even against 16 men. I'm not a fan of Cubby but he's the type of player you want to bring on late in the game as was the case last night. He made a number of turnovers but wasn't rewarded for all of them unfortunately.
And fair play to both teams for each giving a 100% and making it a good spectacle in spite of that ref

The yellow card incident is doing the rounds down here in NZ, and is getting quite a bit of attention.
This has to be one of the most insane things I have ever seen a referee do in Rugby.
Far to much pressure is put on referees to reach into the pocket, cant help but think that in this one, no matter what someone was going to the bin, whether they did anything wrong was irrellevant. ( I should also make clear I personally have only seen a 2 minute clip of the incident)
Luckily it didnt have a lot of bearing on the game, and Wayne Pivac has got a good sense of humour. It is bloody funny though.

Welcome to the Pro12. I have been saying for ages about the standard of our refs, certain nations are just not pulling their weight when it comes to quality refs in our league, the Pro12 probably have the worst standard refs of any pro league in the world.
