Channel 5 Card Tomorrow Night
I didn't even know this was on, not a bad little card in fairness.

Worth it for Gallagher vs Mucha (I'll take the latter in that one).

Really looking forward to it, I'm a huge Groves fan
It sort of slipped under the radar with the Ward vs Kovalev fight this weekend, but it should be a good night of action
shame they aren't showing the undercard in full, some really good fights on there

Long live boxing on terrestrial. Looking forward to seeing how Groves looks, as there's potentially big fights for him with either Jack or Degale, not necessarily the winner either.

Having trained with Gallagher safe to say I'll be watching this with interest. His knock out in the last outing will have him oozing confidence.
Looking forward to seeing if Groves can kick on from his first half decent showing since Froch.

Re: Channel 5 Card Tomorrow Night
don't know a lot about gallagher or mucha about mucha. Except one lost to Ochieng and one beat him. I've seen snippets of mucha, fast hands crude footwork was my initial take, but interested to try and catch this one if I can.

Gallagher is looking like a different fighter in the last year, it was actually a year ago this weekend he fought Bartenek in Belfast
Still one of the funniest knockdowns I have ever seen

Groves has got sharper as the fight's gone on. Looks good letting his hands go, but still ships too much leather for my liking. Won this by a landslide though.

Re: Channel 5 Card Tomorrow Night
Groves defence on the ropes is worrying and really didn't cut the ring down well.
Won this comfortably but can't help thinking that if he had sustained his attacks in the last third of the fight the ref would have stopped it.

I don't think he's as bad as Degale for making hard work of fights once he's done the hard work, but he did seem to struggle to know how to put the lad away.

Re: Channel 5 Card Tomorrow Night
Was a bit concerned about how Groves looked in the first three rounds, and a bit of the fourth until he buzzed Gutknecht properly for the first time. Picked up his game well as the fight progressed, though. Close enough to a shutout with some really nice stuff in rounds eight and eleven in particular.
With the dodgy start combined with the much better ending, and factoring in that Gutknecht is very, very limited, I'd say this performance was pretty much par for the course. Groves still doesn't look as quick or elusive as he did three years ago, for me - he was getting his head rocked back with the jab a lot in the opening rounds and he still hasn't developed a real inside game, albeit he didn't need one here. He's still got that cracking jab of his own to make up for that, and the fact that he looked fresh after twelve rounds is encouraging as well. But I'm still not convinced he'll be able to do that against a guy with more variety and who can actually punish him consistently for his porous defence.
Doesn't seem to be hitting with as much authority as I thought he'd be at this stage of his career, but that comes with the caveats that a) Gutknecht is tough and very durable, so no shame in not stopping him, and b) it might not be a bad thing in a strange way, as Groves has looked a bit too in love with his power in the past couple of years or so and has neglected his overall game as a result. If he goes back to concentrating on his ability to put punches together, control the range with his jab and let the knockouts come to him rather than going desperately looking for them, it'll be better for him in the long run.
I'm not yet convinced he's fully recaptured his pre-80,000 people at Wembley Stadium form (or, if you'd prefer, if he's actually good enough to be a dominant player at 168), but we'll get the answer in 2017, I guess.

Re: Channel 5 Card Tomorrow Night
Thought groves looked really good
Took a bit of time to get his range but then he just bashes him up
Groves jab and right hand are just awesome that jab is a power punch
Groves looks vunerable on the ropes but you try and go after him and get cracked
On another note Selby is so talented!!! Awesome to watch and has amazing foot speed

I agree with Chris - Groves looks a shadow of what he was. DeGale will take him to the cleaners.

Don't think he fights Degale...Early call but I think Smith will beat both of them....Degale first after Jack.
Looks huge at the weight...Good dig and a quality body puncher. ..
Think he's special..

He hasn't fought a live body - I suspect he doesn't hold a good shot. Don't recall many fighters of his build who did.
DeGale vs Groves 2 is bound to happen and James will demolish him. Sad to see the decline of Groves - really odd.

A agree. Don't think Groves looks as sharp as he did, pre froch. Although he is certainly better under Mcguigan. Fitzpatrick was a big mistake and took a few years out his career.
I can see where truss is coming from. Smith looks like he could be dominant. Still need to see him fight at the top level to be convinced.

You can tell someone has the goods without beating a live body..
After all Mugabi was a top win for Hagler without ever beating one according to Haz....
Not that Haz God forbid has double standards..

Re: Channel 5 Card Tomorrow Night
Groves' opponent was taken to hospital after collapsing, hopefully he's ok.
http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/boxing/george-groves-opponent-eduard-gutknecht-9288767
Eduard Gutknecht was rushed to hospital following his defeat by George Groves at Wembley on Friday night.
The German was badly beaten during the WBA International Super-Middleweight contest, which he lost via a unanimous points decision at Wembley Arena.
And the 34-year-old collapsed in his changing room shortly after the fight and was immediately carried to an ambulance on a stretcher.
It is reported by the Daily Mail that Gutknecht needed resuscitating in the emergency vehicle after he “briefly stopped breathing and was drifting in and out of consciousness”.

Yes, hope he's OK and wish him the best.
I agree truss, about seeing a fighter has what it takes without seeing the top opposition, yet. Smith does look destined for a world strap but still think size has been a major advantage and the better fighters will negate it. I'm almost on your side on this, just need a little more convincing.

Wishing a full and swift recovery for Gutknecht.
Back to the fight, Groves shows glimpses of world level ability but always something that makes you nervous with him, Story of his career really.
Gutknecht is Euro level on his very best day and shows the risk of putting him in a fight he was never going to win.
Reminds me of Blackwell vs Eubank. Both Blackwell and Gutknecht don't have the skill to win against the top guys but have the chin to take unhealthy levels of punishment.

When has DeGale ever 'destroyed' anybody? He fights for 60secs of each round and unlike Bernard Hopkins, isn't capable of spoiling or avoid getting pinned on the ropes. Groves beats DeGale with something to spare.
