Anthony Kendrick hosts the final episode of The 72 Show in 2016 with Nick Davie. Our guest this week is Ashley Carter, who is in the process of making a documentary about former Derby County captain Shaun Barker. We discuss Derby's season so far, their hopes under Nigel Pearson and then Steve McClaren rejoining the club. Their 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest is discussed, as well as the chances of promotion.

We move on to discuss the developments in the Championship promotion race. Brighton have taken the lead at the top of the table after beating Blackburn 3-2, with Newcastle second with a game in hand. There were wins for Leeds over rivals Reading, and Huddersfield won twice in a few days beating Bristol City and Burton Albion. At the bottom of the table Cardiff beat Wolves 2-1 to move out of the bottom three.

In League One we discuss the continuing plight of Bury and whether they can do anything to turn around this run of eleven straight losses. Nick also mentions his club of the week, Shrewsbury who picked up a win at Millwall. And it was a good week for MK Dons, beating their biggest rivals Wimbledon and qualifying for the third round of the FA Cup after beating Karl Robinson's Charlton.

The big result at the top of League Two was Plymouth recovering from a three game losing streak to beat third-placed Doncaster Rovers. Wycombe also picked up their fifth win a row, beating Notts County who have now lost five in a row. Newport remain bottom of the league after their game was called off due to a waterlogged pitch. This is the fourth time this season, and the Football League are getting involved to try to improve the situation.

We finish the show by discussing the FA Cup. The first game between Stourbridge and Northampton was postponed, but the seventh tier side won the re-arranged game. There were also wins for Oxford United over Macclesfield Town, and Eastleigh beat Halifax 2-0.

To end the show, we discuss Gianfranco Zola has replacing Gary Rowett and Birmingham City boss, which broke at the time of recording. The 72 Show will take a break for the Christmas period but will be returning in 2017. Thanks for listening!
