Okada v Omega was a bonafied 5 star match. Naito v Tanahashi downgraded to a 4.999999 star match.

Watching this show in a funny order due to life, watched the last 5 matches and have to go back and catch the undercard
I think I'm on an island with Tana/Naito, not that I didn't think it was a great match but I couldn't go higher than ****1/4, the match felt like to me it was building really well to a climax that never came, I didn't feel any drama in the final falls despite actually expecting Tana to win, don't want to be to negative on what was a very good match but given the standards of Tana and IC title matches at the Dome, I can't help but feel a little underwhelmed
Omega and Okada are wrestling Gods, there's no other way to say it

Omega and Okada was one of the greatest matches I have ever seen. There is no way that wasnt a 5 star match, unless it gets 6 stars.

Edit: I saw a tweet from Meltzer replying to someones question about his favourite period in wrestling. His answer was simple 'About 4-5am this morning'

6 Stars
Still got to go back and watch the undercard of the show, on the whole I think I preferred the top end of last years card, Kushida/Kamitachi was better than Goto/Naito from last year but I preferred the Never and IC matches from 10, the main events were very different but both classics in there own way
I want everyone to remember that main event when Omega goes out to Baron Corbin in the 2nd Round of the WWC next year

Never watched a Japanese match in my life - following the hype train - was an amazing match. I was enthralled.
Was it part of a storyline? Do they do stories in Japan?

Literally never watched anything outside of WWE/TNA before and now I am wondering how. That main event was absolutely mind blowing. Rest of the show was good with some cracking wrestling and spots but the ME was pure fire.
Definitely going to expand my viewing from now on.

Re: NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 11 Results
For me it wasn't as good as my favourite match of all time which is Taker vs Trips with Shawn as ref. But that's probably only because I was invested in the story whereas I was viewing this cold.
The fact this had such an impact on me in spite of that probably tells me how good it was
The last time I got on the hype train and watched Ospreay vs Ricochet I thought it was crap. So I was pleasantly surprised with this
I'm with JJ - it'll get me watching more NJPW

They do, do stories but this wasn't a particularly intensive one anyways, basically Omega is having a breakout year, he pinned Nakamura and Tanahashi, kicking Styles out of the company and becoming leader of the Bullet Club, he won and lost the IC and Trios titles before winning the G1 Tournament which garunteed him a shot at the IWGP belt at Kingdom, the story was mostly about Omega's meteoric year and if he could cap it off by beating Okada at the Dome, they also super protected Omega's One Winged Angel finish which he ultimately never managed to hit in the Okada match, they mentioned some stuff about being the face of NJPW as they continue they're 'global expansion' but that was tacked on much later
Compared to the epic Okada/Tanahashi feud that has main evented 3 of the past 4 Kingdoms, this was fairly story light but I feel the spectacle of the match more than made up for it

It's a question to ask though especially with the 6 star rating that's been given out which is unprecedented.
In the cold light of day will this match stack up as the greatest match in the history of wrestling?

Re: NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 11 Results
I think it's certainly in the conversation, particularly in terms of pure action and spectacle, the two Tanahashi/Okada matches from the previous Dome shows were up there for me as well in terms of epic in ring story telling, but this was every bit there equal in a very different way
I don't think they're can ever be a definitive answer to that question, and Meltzer's 6 does give it an elusive air, but it's just the opinion of one man, however respected he is *, it really depends on what you look for in a match or whatever the strength of that particular match is, if someone said it was this match though I wouldn't think they were crazy
Personal opinion I probably still prefer the Nakamura/Ibushi match in terms of Dome matches of recent vintage
*except by Hobo

Re: NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 11 Results
Going into NJPW pretty blind I loved the match. I knew the story of Omega having a breakout year so could buy into that, but it was all the little things done perfectly. Believable nearfalls, protecting of finishers to the point Omega never even hit his, no cowpat or shenanigans just two guys beating the piss out of each other.
I agree with ED that its not my favourite match but thats down to being less invested in the product. However if we were having a discussion about Greatest Match ever I woud certainly have no conplaints about this winning.

Ive been thinking about doing previews for the past few big shows but I never got around to it partially because I was unsure anyone would care, will definitely make the effort for New Beginning, shame it's so far off as by the time we get through Fantasticamania and Honor Rising I think a lot of the buzz will have died down

I'd like to see that House. Id be more inclined to make the effort to watch it (click a button - so much effort ) if there was a bit of buzz on here.
Cheers Nando. Is there a way of watching it though PS4 or just through a normal tv?

I'll bear that in mind, I might do something for Fantasticamania but I have literally zero interesting things to say about it so I'll probably bide my time until New Beginning
I know they have a chrome cast feature but I've never fiddled around with any other methods of watching

Honestly amazed Omega is still walking after that, it was scary.
The Super Dragon Suplex where Okada landed on his head was scarier!
Okada wrestled the next day, he should have been barely able to walk after what he did to his neck there ffs

I don't own a PS4 but after having a look seems a cromecast thing is best way to go
Fun Fact of the Day - Kazuchika Okada has as many 5 & 6 Star matches as WWE on his own yet is still only 29 years old
5 Star Match (2013) vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi on April 7[221]
5 Star Match (2013) vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi on October 14[222]
5 Star Match (2016) vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi on January 4[223]
5 Star Match (2016) vs. Tomohiro Ishii on August 6
6 Star Match (2017) vs. Kenny Omega on January 4
Dear TNA you f**ked up - He was Samoa Joe's sidekick and was on Xplosion only for the most part. On the plus side he's failed run there created his Rainmaker character.

Re: NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 11 Results
Listened to Meltzers thoughts and a few review podcasts. Most of them raised the very valid point that these guys have been given a great amount of freedom in NJPW to go as hard as they want. Its great for us and all but when you see some of the spots you do worry about whether these great wrestlers will be able to have long careers carrying on in that fashion. And there are so many match ups I would want to see.
If that backdrop is off even slightly Omega is in serious trouble.

In fairness to TNA, it's easy to say in hindsight that TNA didn't know what they had on their hands but I don't know if anyone but Gedo knew how good he was going to be, it's easy to forget that Okada's return match at WK6 was dreadful and he was booed when he challenged Tanahashi at the end of the show
There's about 101 reasons in NXT and the current WWE Champion to bash TNA about, without lumping Okada on them as well

Initial thoughts on those card
Sapporo is rough, though probably has potentially the best match of both shows in the main event, Hashi vs Izuka sounds brutal though and not in a good way
Osaka on the other hand looks lit from match 5ish onwards, Shibata/Ospreay sounds amazing and Hiromu's opponent Dragon Lee was specifically brought in because those 2 have such amazing chemistry, also interesting that Naito is being given the main event on what I assume is the bigger show? Generally the IC belt does the smaller of split shows, though Naito has history in Osaka so it's probably a smart move

That's pretty much what you get from these split shows, a good card divided in half, with tags making up the rest

Jim Smallman's Tuesday Night Jaw podcast has a review of Wrestle Kingdom up if any of you are interested. I'm about 1 hour 25 into it (it's 3 hours long) and very funny so far.

I enjoyed it up until the really awkward rant he went on about Meltzer's match ratings about the 3 hour mark
