Royal Ascot
A week today the finest Flat meeting of the year begins,i dont go for all the fashion, daft hat, daft head malarky, thats just a bi product. The racing on offer is just pure top notch. It has something for everybody, top flight performers at all distances, some fiendishly difficult handicaps and plenty of 2yo pointers(if thats you thing,it isnt mine).Im most looking forward to Frankel strutting his stuff again,i just hope he can run to something like his 2000 Guineas rating,if he doesnt then the three year olds are in my opinion dead and buried in the water.Hope the Prince of Wales and the Hardwicke dont cut up as they could be real humdingers if all the big guns stand their ground,So You Think,Rewilding,Planteur etc in the former makes it look a real mid season championship over 10f and the latter is full of horses trying to bridge the gap to Group 1 status,im particularly sweet on Alainmaar for this. The Coronation could be a very competitive renewal, dont really rate the Guineas form from Newmarket or the Curragh and i think Theyskens Theory can make them all go.
Its just a great five days,TV going to work again, the days of having the full meeting off work(my record is 14 consecutive before they twigged!) are long gone. Which ones are you looking forward to seeing the most?

Royal Ascot - Coventry Stakes
A great meeting indeed and one I always look forward to. The Coventry stakes has proved to be one of my most profitable races and this year I've got my eye on Samminder. Looks to have plenty of scope for improvement and should be available for a decent e/w bet against the likely favourite POWER.

Re: Royal Ascot
this is the number 2 meeting of the year after Cheltenham for me.
I will be taking Tuesday off work for sure and probably one other afternoon too.
Tuesday's races are unbelievable. Probably the finest days racing of the year (and I include Cheltenham in that)
Race 1- Goldikova v Canford Cliffs
Race 2-The fastest horses in the world
Race 3 - Frankel!
Race 4 - The best 2 year old horses
Race 5 - Junior!
Race 6 - no idea what is in this yet

Re: Royal Ascot
With Ascot being just down the road from me I'm glad I've got the week off next week. Traffic in the area gets stupid-silly.
As a spot of trivia, isn't it still true that Royal Ascot is only a 4 day meeting? The 5th day used to have a different (non-Royal) name.

Yeah Davie, Saturday was always Ascot Heath but as with many of the big meetings & festivals, and extra buck means they extend and take in the Saturday. I didn't realise that the Ebor this year has been moved to a Saturday too. Still, it really is quality from start to finish, you don't get too many poor winners at the Royal Meeting and i just hope that all the potential clashes live up to their billing. For me, i can't wait to see Frankel again, Canford Cliffs V Goldikova = Mouth Watering ... and that's just day 1 !!!!

Re: Royal Ascot
I really like the handicaps at ascot. Have had my fair share of luck in them.
Gun to my head though my fave is the Golden Jubilee.
The horse i want to see is So You Think.......

Re: Royal Ascot
The one so called match that i cant have at Ascot is this Canford v Goldikova nonsense.Cant believe that the bookies have them so close in the markets for the Queen Anne,if i was a bookie id be going 4/6 Canford 2/1 Goldikova.I honestly dont think shes got a prayer next Tuesday, she struggled to beat Paco Boy last year and conditions are going to be pretty similar this year,on that pretext she has no chance.Straight track, stiff mile, quick ground just isnt Goldikova,to me shes her best on a turning track with a touch of cut in the ground.

Re: Royal Ascot
Royal Ascot always starts late, it is why I like taking a couple of afternoons off work for it. Also this year the BBC are showing the whole racecard, with the final races on the red button after BBC2 coverage has finished

B Fifty Two must be worth backing at 20/1 for the Coventry Stakes.

Re: Royal Ascot
Two horses that interest me from my scouting today.
Rumh looked really good today at Newbury. Ribblesdale i guess.
RadharcNaFairrige could be well placed for on the handicaps now. Not sure if she's entered however
