Re: 2018 & 2019 6 Nations Fixtures
A Friday evening clash for the Guiseppe Garibaldi Trophy between France and Italy kicks off Round Three. For the first time ever, this fixture will take place outside of Paris. A venue for this match will be announced in the next few weeks
That should be interesting, is this an attempt to grow the game?

Hang on a minute i could have sworn Scotland were supposed to have Italy home and away from the first round in 2018 and 2019. Have I made that up?? Or is the other Italy match opener in 2020?
Will have to target the 2019 championship anyway with that fixture list...

I am glad the balance of England having to play most final games of the 6 nations away from home is being addressed.
Still the disproportionate amount of games away from home in the 1st round in recent years continues though.....

That's what I was thinking, maybe Marseille at the Velodrome which is the biggest stadium in the South. Takes in Toulon, Montpellier and Grenoble and closer for places like Lyon and about equidistance from Clermont-Ferrand as Paris and close to the Italian border

Re: 2018 & 2019 6 Nations Fixtures
Happy England are finishing on home games. 12 of the 18 Six Nations years, and 6 in the last 8, we've finished away.
This has led to an interesting predicament in that England have more home games (on average) in Weeks 1-4 and less home games (on average) in Week 5. With home advantage being King in the Six Nations, England have got into the last weekend 4-and-0 7 times (2000, 2001, 2003, 2011, 2013, 2016, 2017) and won 2 out of 7. On all 7 of those occasions though, we finished away and never against Italy (Ireland 4 times - 2001, 2003, 2011, 2017; Wales - 2013, France - 2016 and Scotland - 2000 all once).
This makes sense, in that one of our hardest games is last, so we're more likely to win the first 4 and less likely to win the last one.
I also think that it's different pressure, for example, chasing a Slam as opposed to a World Cup knock-out game. In each year except 2003 and 2013, England's opponents weren't playing for silverware. They could go out, in front of their home crowds, throw the kitchen sink at us and piss on our parade. In 4 of those 5 instances, the team with nothing to play for managed to tip over a Grand Slam chasing England.
In 2003, Ireland and England were both playing for the Grand Slam and England took it. In 2013, Wales were in with a shot at the Championship and managed to take it.
It's interesting looking at the other 7 won Grand Slams that 6 of the final wins came at home, and the only away win had Ireland win in Cardiff while Wales were playing for a Championship.
2002 - France secured the Grand Slam with a 44-5 home win against Ireland - Ireland had a mathematical chance at the Championship.
2004 - France secured the Grand Slam with a 24-21 home win against England - England had a mathematical chance at the Championship.
2005 - Wales secured the Grand Slam with a 32-20 home win against Ireland - Ireland had a mathematical chance at the Championship.
2008 - Wales secured the Grand Slam with a 29-12 home win against France - France had a mathematical chance at the Championship.
2009 - Ireland secured the Grand Slam with a 15-17 away in Wales - Wales had a mathematical chance at the Championship.
2010 - France secured the Grand Slam with a 12-10 home win against England - England were out the Championship running.
2012 - Wales secured the Grand Slam with a home win against France - France were out the Championship running.

For next year it's pretty much the ideal set of fixtures for England. Possibly you'd want to swap scotland and France games as scotland can start to feel the bite.with injuries later in the tournament.

Nice Allianz Arena is rumored to be the chosen one - "nice" touch from the FFR given it is almost in Italy anyway (bit like playing England-Scotland in Carlisle, just a bit of extra sun on top)

I see we have been lumbered with playing France on a Friday night again in 2019.
When are the other home nations going to take their turn with Friday night games ?

Why do the same set of matches take place at the same time? Every time England play Ireland, Wales play France and Scotland Italy for example. Anyone know if there a reason for this?

Apparently the police/Twickenham council have put enough pressure on the RFU to say "No" to Friday night. Getting out there after work, in rush hour would be a complete nightmare in fairness, the trains barely handle regular commuter traffic
WRU is opting out after 2019 too

Nope. The WRU has refused to host anymore Friday night games, yet we still have to put up with being part of a Friday night fixture away from home. It's a friggin nightmare.

It's a bit different when you have to commute to another country to watch your team though, also, it is a lot different when there are over 100,000 people trying to get home from a home game on a Friday night. In 2019 a lot of Welsh people will have to book an extra day off work now if they want to travel to France to watch their country, the Welsh are always put in this position as the blazers know that we are a rugby mad country and will make sacrifices to watch our country play.

The RFU have made it clear that they don't want Friday night games.
Nope. The WRU has refused to host anymore Friday night games, yet we still have to put up with being part of a Friday night fixture away from home. It's a friggin nightmare.
Oops, misread the home/away bit of the 2019 fixture

Yeah us Ulster fans wouldn't have a clue about that
It's a bit different when you have to commute to another country to watch your team though, also, it is a lot different when there are over 100,000 people trying to get home from a home game on a Friday night. In 2019 a lot of Welsh people will have to book an extra day off work now if they want to travel to France to watch their country, the Welsh are always put in this position as the blazers know that we are a rugby mad country and will make sacrifices to watch our country play.
We have to travel to a different country to watch the Irish anytime we want to see them play
Not on a Friday night you don't. Anyway, forget it, you have one of your heads on when you are going to have an argument whether I like it or not, so lets just leave it shall we ?

When are the other home nations going to take their turn with Friday night games ?
I thought the Friday night games were a Welsh idea.
The RFU have made it clear that they don't want Friday night games.
I thought the idea of friday night games for Wales was to fill the stadium more than they would other wise do on a saturday. with maybe fans who come on a friday might make a week end of it, instead of one day.

Kerdiff hoteliers love the Friday night thing because the Trains go off so early that they leave loads of people stranded. Of course the Welsh fans are so plastered by that stage that they'll take anything and pre-pay their accommodation only to wake up in a half-filled skip the next morning.

FFS, are you even being serious, you cannot be.
Wales have played away Friday nights against France for the last few years. Only last year on "super Saturday" we didn't.
I have to ask you, seriously, are you being a troll ?

Check your history, since Friday night games became a thing, and check to see how many times Wales have had a Friday night fixture. When you have done this, compare it to all the other home nations.

Wales had more they agreed to it. They no longer do but as far as I'm aware no away side gets a choice of when their games are. Love Friday night games on TV but I imagine if you're rich enough to be going every year it's tiresome. 1st world problems.
