Guy Thompson signs for tigers, would be amazed if the next signing isn't Spencer.

My opinion of Morris has improved. When he arrived I thought of him as 3rd choice cover at best. But I have been impressed with his play, and he has improved with each game (think he is injured at the moment). But I would be happier with him starting 15 for Quins than say Ross Chisholm.
Hopefully he can combine well with Earle.
Quins really do need to focus on recruiting in other areas though

Excellent. Two physical players who work hard and like the opposition to know how physical they are.

Re: Silly Season Transfer Rumours 17/18
Bit of a random one here but Batumi (Georgian rugby club that recently competed in the third tier of european rugby) have signed South Africa Sevens international Bernado Botha
The winger, 29 years old, also represented Baby Boks and Lions in Super Rugby
Lately, he played for Pumas in Currie Cup.
Could this be the start for a push for a competitive club team in European competition or them trying to expose the youngsters to high level backs? Clearly Georgia need to step up their development of backs if they want to seriously be considered by the 6 nations.

Chiefs signing Santiago Cordero on short term loan till the end of the season could be a good move, spice up the backs.

Would be a good signing but might be a waste of a marquee spot, esp when the front row is a mess.

Just going round because of the new DOR. Doubt there's much else in it.

He's getting rumoured to be going to half the sides in Europe and even RL with him out of the NZ squad. Cracking player still, he'd be an asset to any side.

James Haskell's contract not being renewed at Wasps, despite offering to take a massive pay cut. Currently being hawked round the AP (again at cut price) as he looks for a one year deal and a chance to extend his England career through to 2019 WC.

Surely someone could do with Haskell? Based on his partnership with Robshaw, he’d surely work well with Wilson at Falcons? Bristol could use an EQ top class backrow?

I do think he'd be interested as he loves bringing in experienced guys who have been there and done it, however we already have...
Mark Wilson - England Capped
Gary Graham - Possibly England Capped Soon
Will Welch- Club Captain
Nili Latu - Tongan Captain and Hugely experienced international
Aly Hogg (Semi Retired)
Simon Uzokwe - Coming through nicely
Calum Chick - Also developing nicely
Plus a few promising young academy lads...
So it would be interesting to see if Dean would actually make a bid.

That is just weird. No AP team seems to want him or at least don't want to pay anything big for him. He himself seems to know the score on that one, given he offered to take a massive pay cut. And yet he still has realistic hopes of wearing an England shirt right up to and including the next world cup?
That would need some explaining to a rugby loving alien visiting Earth to learn the finer details.

Agree - a marquee winger is definitely not what should be first on Saints shopping list.
It's a shame really that Saints couldn't build a team around Picamoles.

Re: Silly Season Transfer Rumours 17/18
I'd happily take Haskell at Tigers for a season. He'd add to our defence and leadership. Critically he's also very aggressive at attacking rucks where our ability to secure quick ball is woeful.
Guy Thompson replacing Hamilton and Haskell for Dom Ryan would be upgrades in positions where Tigers desperately need to upgrade.
Would still be missing a top 8 as we have been for a long while now but it would still be an improvement.

I suspect Thompson has joined as the new 8 option. It'll be between him and Kalamafoni. I suspect we've got another season of Ryan doing bugger all before his departure.
Haskell should be getting offers from all across the midlands and West Country. Saints and Tigers need some more physicality in their backrows, Glaws could do with the additional leadership and Worcester and Bristol could do with the added quality.

Re: Silly Season Transfer Rumours 17/18
I think Haskell would plus up the back row of most teams. And if he can be had on a relatively favourable contract, then so much the better.
I think he would fit in fine at Saints, as long as he doesn't head butt the goal posts at the Gardens.

Haskell can't get a contract? Why, has he become awful overnight?

Re: Silly Season Transfer Rumours 17/18
I'd welcome Haskell at Glaws, as Sam has said he'd give some additional leadership to the likes of Polledri, Ludlow, Ackermann and Clarke. However, I don't see it happening given that Jaco Kriel is still very likely to join us.
The other Glaws rumours are Ruan Dreyer and Rohan Janse Van Rensburg teaming up with Ackers Snr again and somewhat unbelievably Alex Cuthbert joining. In terms of departures other than Hibbs, Moriarty and Afoa, Matt Scott will be the most high profile. He's expected to be joined by Motu Matu'u, Jacob Rowan, Tom Denton and Charlie Beckett.

What is the logic with Matt Scott, HKC? Too many injuries? Seemed to be great for you last year
Rensburg is a beast though so if it was an exchange

Scott was great last year, but I'm not sure he fits the Ackermann style. I do wonder whether his defence is the issue, but as you say if we are getting JVR as a replacement, it is a step up. It is a shame, as he runs excellent lines and very much targets space rather than a defender.

And Chisholm, who may well start ahead of or at least rotated with Clifford and the 8s!
On the other hand, we seem to constantly have backrow injuries, so I wouldn’t say no to Hask if he weren’t too expensive

Re: Silly Season Transfer Rumours 17/18
Yeah, but injured for almost a year. There are two bits of info on this one that are curious. Apparently we wanted to get him off the wage cap for the year, to free up for others and secondly he wanted to leave to 'refresh' elsewhere. He's contracted until the end of next season, so would be interesting to see if he stayed. Wouldn't begrudge him getting one big contract after the injury issues he's had last 2/3 seasons. Great player, but is a bit battered. Would leave us really short in the row, with Charteris on the way out and Phillips apparently leaving

Re: Silly Season Transfer Rumours 17/18
I could see him at Saints, but as an 8, we are desperately short of power in our back row, plenty of flankers:
Wood
Gibson
Harrison
Ludlam
Brussow
Nutley
Lawes although I prefer him at lock.
All pocket rockets or long tall players that cover a lot of ground, work well in the lineout, but do not tear up stumps.
As 8s
Eadie
Harrison
Neither are going to make big holes in defences, Haskell if used right might just do that whilst we find a long term replacement

Agree - enough flankers, but need an 8 with power. Haskell, especially if not too expensive, would be a perfect choice for the next season or so.WELL-PAST-IT wrote:I could see him at Saints, but as an 8, we are desperately short of power in our back row, plenty of flankers:

No, not as good as Mikey Haywood, would be competing with Charlie Clare.
Having said that, on last nights performance, Hartley isn't or shouldn't be the number 1. Pity he's not a stone or so heavier, Mikey that is, he combines the best skills of both Hartley and George with the passing skills of a top class centre. Work rate is there too. But at under 100kg, he is too light for EJ or most teams.

Another hooker! Unless there is some worrying news about either Grey or Buchannan injuries!
Hopefully EliaElia isn't off as he is looking very useful.

Dave Denton to leave Worcester Warriors, strongly tipped by Mark Palmer to be heading to Welford Rd (he has the inside info on Scottish Rugby and is nearly always right with his predictions).
Cornel du Prez moves down from Edinburgh to replace him.

Oh please not that useless lump. He's been linked several times and everytime he's gone somewhere else I breathed a sigh of relief. He's been poor for both Bath and Worcester in the AP.
Good signing for Saints. That'd a unit of a winger.

Naiyaravoro was good enough when he played for Glasgow but seems to be a bit of a paycheque chaser as there no suggestion at all he was leaving the Tahs and just finished his preseason by playing Brisbane 10s.
Apparently he's lost 12kg in preseason so now he's 'only' 19 and a half stones.
