Nathan Cleverly Retires Empty Nathan Cleverly Retires

After his somewhat pathetic effort against Badou Jack, Nathan Cleverly has retired from boxing citing "Too many miles on the clock".

In my opinion he was never much more than a Euro-level fighter who came up short whenever he fought anyone mildly decent. He's done well, really. a bona-fide belt holder (albeit against poor opposition), he was d!cked about by Braehmer numerous times before finally getting his chance to beat him. Add to that the two fights against Tony *3 kids to feed* Bellew, and he should have enough in the coffers to live a fairly comfortable life.

I think he was a fighter who did well when his confidence was high - once his unbeaten record was gone and he'd suffered an brutal and emphatic defeat to Kovalev, he was never quite the same. I was never a big fan, but as a Brit, I feel it's always good to support your fellow Brits. Glad to see he's got out with everything intact.

I agree with that, wanted him to beat Bellew both times, had a decent career in my opinion. I have respect for anyone who steps in the ring and it's no different with Cleverly. I always remember when his dad training him and thinking if he got a proper trainer he could do better.

I hope he lives a long and happy retirement!

Yep, right time to go. A good career, but I think he probably over achieved somewhat.. he didn't really belong in the ring with top level operators like Kovalev or Jack.

Good boxer but quite a calculated career.

Given his first title then got rewarded with a fight against a stiff after Fonfara battered him so he could be a two time champ............Two time world champion is a generous label.

Decent win over Bellew though.....and certainly a good fighter.

...Not world class in my opinion but that doesn't matter these days....Just like my opinion doesn't.

Can't blame Nathan though he has the right to make crap loads of money and to take advantage of a warped system...I'd do it.

I won't miss him but I wish him health and happiness for the future.
