Stateside round up
Some interesting fights and big names fighting over night in the States. The results were:
Madness at 154 card (Three Champions, One Night)
Lara WUD12 Gashua (WBA 'Super' Light Midddleweight)- Gashua down in 4th in a snoozefest with Lara winning easily.
Charlo KO1 Lubin (WBC Light Middleweight)- Need I say anymore
Hurd RTD10 Trout (IBF Light Middleweight)- Great fight which I had Trout winning through 6 but Hurd's class showed and eventually Trout was pulled out by the ringside Doctor. Fight of the Night
Charlo called out Hurd after his fight so maybe a 154 unification next year.
StubHub, Carson, California
Santa Cruz KO8 Avalos (WBA 'Super' Featherweight)- Santa Cruz too good for out gunned Avalos
Mares TD10 Gutierrez (WBA Featherweight)- Gutierrez cut in Round 2 from Punch before fight stopped after cut worsens due to head clashes, hence the TD.
Santa Cruz and Mares want to fight each other again so expect this to happen early next year.
One more for you (I think this came up on Fight Night thread)
Ryder KO5 Nielsen- Awesome win for Ryder, is in line for shot a Zeuge's WBA 'Regular' Belt

Rubbish stoppage in the Santa Cruz fight. Actually just bizzare.

Hmmm, no complaints from me. More a mercy stoppage from the Ref. He wasn't offering much

Terrible stoppage, just seconds before an Avalos left hand rocks Santa Cruz who has to retreat.

I feel the PBC's highlights on Youtube may have given me a false impression but it did seem that Leo was well on top.
Can't imagine it's going to top Hurd Trout though. Great fight that one

He was on top in the sense he just throws with reckless abandon every fight but from what i've seen Avalos was well in the fight.

Will try to find a full fight then. I only saw the PBC Youtube clip. Never been the biggest fan of Leo but cant question his record. Defs beat Mares the first time and I had him winning the second Frampton fight

It depends on how highly you rate Frampton and Mares really, at Featherweight I don't think either of them are great and it's telling that he's shown no inclination to fight Lomachenko, Rigondeaux or Russell Jnr.

I rate them both highly. I know Mares like Leo has had some preferential treatment in the past but hes a good fighter. Leo does need to fight Russell Jr or Frampton again, but he wont step up and face the winner of Loma vs Rigo. They would eat him alive

Same with Selby, I think Lee would beat him easily

Hmmm, that stoppage is certainly questionable but I don't think it's going to cause mass outrage. As I said before, mercy stoppage

Re: Stateside round up
I think Russell Jr is a bit more multi-dimensional than Santa Cruz and beat him in the amateurs of course
Leo says he’d like to avenge that loss but if we don’t see that fight in 2019 I don’t think we ever will. Probably have a trilogy with Mares and a fourth with Frampton
He can do what he likes of course but can’t expect to make any p4p lists if you won’t fight someone just cos he’s got a bad style for you

Yet he keeps making these lists. He is no where near P4P

Was any of last night’s action good? Didn’t see any of it but the obvious one now is a unification between Charlo and Hurd

Hurd Trout was an awesome fight. Trout gave Hurd some real problems but Hurd's power came through. Charlo's KO was a beautiful shot of a highly rated prospect. I think Charlo beats Hurd qite easily
