I think Italy-Fiji will be closer, England will win a lot easier and Ireland will win.

Australia beat NZ and battered Argentina. If Australia are gash, Argentina are much gasher.

Agreed.
I think Fords kicking will let us down, and that will allow ARG to stay in it and raise their game. If we can take the game away from then by 50 mins, I'd expect us to win a lot more comfortably.

Don't forget Scotland beat Aus in the summer. So by that logic Scotland are world champs
Argentina are a lot better than their world ranking suggests imo - its distorted by not playing teams other than tri nations very often so they don't get much chance to gain points

It's not about a one of game, or their ranking. They just almost never win rugby matches.

I agree with Scott, they're poor. But first game of the Autumn, they will be up for it and I don't think everything will go smoothly for England. Let's see!
Also Scott, I bet you didn't think you'd be typing "much gasher" today!

Re: Autumn International - Score Predictions
Italy by 10.
I reckon this year we'll see the superior coaching of O'Shea start to have a real impact on Italy's performances and results. They should be too well drilled for Fiji.
Scotland by 15.
Scotland may have issues with their front row injuries, but don't think Samoa are the team to expose them, and their backs should have too much. Again, Samoa's first game, so expect them to be a bit disorganised at times.
England by 20.
Argentina's presence in the RC doesn't seem to have had the desired impact. England beat them away from home with essentially their 2nd/3rd team this summer, and at home with a much stronger team I expect a comfortable win.
Australia by 8.
Wales are usually fairly slow starters in the autumn, and while Australia are a bit uneven at the moment, I think they'll have too much.
Ireland by 6.
Tough one to call. SA have shown signs of improvement in the RC after a horror show last AIs, but I think this will be a grind between two similar teams, and Ireland are that bit better drilled IMO.
NZ by 25.
Expect a relatively close first half, but NZ to really turn it on afterwards and pull away in the last quarter.

But the logic wasn't just that they beat them. Beating NZ by itself means you're better than any team that wins 1 from 12, no matter the circumstances.

I would fancy Italy to win against less of a loose cannon team, but I think they'll hurl it around a bit, I reckon their defensive structure will be a bit hit and miss, like Scotland's when they started playing the faster game. This will give Fiji a bit of a run - Matawalu to score the winning try.

Ah, but we then lost to Fiji so presumably they took our title off us. Has anyone played Fiji since?

By that logic, aren't Fiji actually world champions?
Argentina will definitely be up for it, and England are slightly experimental at the front of the pack and the front of the backs. My guess is that it will be closer than many people expect, but I would be hugely surprised if England don't win.

Re: Autumn International - Score Predictions
I do not understand that.TJ wrote:Don't forget Scotland beat Aus in the summer. So by that logic Scotland are world champs
Argentina are a lot better than their world ranking suggests imo - its distorted by not playing teams other than tri nations very often so they don't get much chance to gain points
Firstly, they do not just play the tri-nations teams. They played fifteen games in 2016 of which five were against the tri-nations. The rest were pretty evenly split between NH teams and other South American teams.
Secondly the top of the rankings are evenly split between the SH and NH so the three SH teams no longer represent more difficult opponents than the best of the NH.
Thirdly, even if they did only play teams much better than them so are unlikely to gain points in any particular game, the ranking system means they will not lose any points either. On the rare occasion they do win they will gain a lot of points.
The ranking system is a fair reflection of the actual success of a team on the field. The only time it might not reflect a team's strength is if they play a series of matches with an under strength team. I do not think that particularly applies to Argentina.

Unless the Kiwis are hère in some sort of paid vacation and they don’t show their usual ruthless / no mercy attitude, this French team are about to get the mothers of all spankings. We are talking about a team missing all their experienced backs and starting with a 9-10 combo who have 41 years between both of them and no international experience. Guys dressed in black by 35 +.

Puts the England result in perspective when you realise SA have 3 club sides better than the Argentine national team.

We can't beat them with our most experienced side! So this one was always going to struggle. Amos' last minute try made it look closer than it really was.

Was it maybe too risky for New Zealand (on their 2nd and 3rd string players) to play a Top 14 side...like they usually do, playing a Nation's club side?

Probably not but not the same money. Read FFR is making 2M€ out of this extra game. Makes the WRU look like philanthropist ...
