Groves v Eubank - Don't get too excited !!...
First topic message reminder :
One guy is Bigger..Taller..Has a better jab...Punches harder.....Has more experience.....and has a Trainer who seems to very good at sizing up opposition..
Can't see how Eubank wins unless Groves gets old overnight.......Nothing on his record remotely near Groves in class....
Groves TKO 7......Or shut out if Eubank goes into survival mode...
My take anyway....

Eubank lacks ring intelligence compared to Groves.

Credit to Eubank tried hard, but yes intelligence and skills miles off. Looked like Groves left arm was injured in that last round.

Although that last round wasnt very intelligent
Maybe he was allowed to be cocky but it couodve unravelled very quickly by him not putting his hands up.....very silly decision when he was so far ahead
Surely Groves gets this....now for the hardest part...the judges actually knowing what they are doing

Right result. We got what we thought from Groves but I have to say Eubank disappointed me. I thought he was better than that and he looked amateurish at times. He need to seriously reassess his approach.

115 - 113 to me very generous to Eubank. Anyone else think Groves had an least one knockdown not scored?

The occasion got to eubank big time. He’s like a rabbit in headlights when the going gets tough.
Full credit to groves. Wiley veteran who knew how to nullify the attack and impose his size and strength.

No credit to Eubank JR..he was poor. He has never improved as a professional. Does the same basic 3 punch combo as he always has with an over reliance on the uppercut especially when he fights on the ropes.
He met a fighter who he couldn't get inside and close too to throw said uppercut and he had nothing else. He showed very little in the way of controlling distance...using footwork to move Groves onto the ropes (relied again on just bulldozing his way in) and his punch technique itself leaves plenty to be desired.
Easy nights work for George Groves, now two belt holder and onto the final where he could potentially unify Super Middleweight. Given two years ago plenty said he was washed up and wouldn't win a world title, think he is the one who deserves credit. Stuck to a game plan, used the basics very well and to be honest cruised his way to well deserved victory.
I think he has the measure of both Abraham or Smith in the final & should he come through that perhaps a final domestic dust up with one Billy Joe Saunders awaits.

Knew pretty much after the first round Groves would win. You could see Jr had nothing except wild swings and ungainly leaps which were never going to get the job done against a canny pro. Thought Groves could have utilised the uppercut more with Jr ducking so low. Shame about the dislocated should as I thought the stoppage was in the cards but Groves controlled the fight beautifully.

Groves totally outclassed him, Eubanks is Euro level at best. Too many casual fans caught up in the hype of him beating up old journeymen. No skills, power or ringcraft.

Apart from his shoulder injury in the final round (is it a sign of aging?) George Groves controlled that fight fairly easily.

Better man won the Froch cv takes a boost George had that all the way disappointing Junior never able to get into it. George could leave a bit of a british legacy if he’s not careful with a few more good wins. Let’s not write Eubank off shall we let’s not fall into that trap not on this forum at least he’s got a lot of good attributes and he’ll be a lot better fighter in five years time

Groves with the best win of his career. He basically embarrassed the overrated and talentless Eubank Jr. Groves without question is the top dog at 168. The Eubank camp where hoping Groves would've been battle worn, but Jr lacks any sort of skill to mix it with someone as good as Groves.
Eubank should fight Chavez jr, two bums living of their fathers names.

Likewise 9 - 3 Groves. Eubank, fit, strong, has a good chin but hopeless in controlling the distance, creating gaps. He is delusional believing he is world class, bubble burst big time.
Hopefully Groves will be fit and Smith beats Brahmer (not a foregone conclusion imo particularly away from home) to set up a good final (I'd give Smith a slight edge).
Next week also ppv, madness.

Think Groves beats Smith who I'm not totally convinced by
Think he's a bit one paced and in truth the guy he fought in the first round out jabbed him a lot. Also with Gallagher in the corner I don't believe he's going to show any real improvement as Gallagher himself is a bit one paced

Re: Groves v Eubank - Don't get too excited !!...
Watching the fight later on youtube, it was not much of a spectacle, in fact it was pretty awful, very scrappy. Eubank Jr seems to have all the physical attributes but just lacks the boxing skills and ring intelligence. Both boxers expended a lot of energy, Eubank kept rushing in, often with his head first, while Groves tied him up. It was to a large extent two boxers standing off each other, with a lot of faints and twitchy movements as if afraid to engage followed by a rushing in and frantic grappling. Eubanks threw more punches but landed fewer than Groves, but both had a fairly low percentage in terms of punches landed versus punches thrown.

Re: Groves v Eubank - Don't get too excited !!...
I thought the most amusing thing Eubank said was "Hopefully we can get the rematch on". Now, whilst this wasn't beatdown like Calzaghe-Lacy was, Junior was never in the fight. He's got as much right to a rematch with Groves as David Haye had with Wlad. It was a difference in class and is not going to happen. Junior just doesn't have the boxing nous to change style and/or the power at SMW to stop a good opponent.
Well done to Groves though. He did exactly what he needed to in order to win. I too am not convinced by Smith although his size won't make an easy night for anyone. Let's see what he can do with Braehmer...

Well executed game plan by groves. Well-called Truss.
Interesting to know where eubank goes from here. Would be crazy if he gets drafted in to fight smith/braehmer cos groves can’t fight.
Also interesting is whether ITV will allow Nas to come back and commentate haha.

While I wouldn't want to "write him off" as such, he needs to make some fundamental changes. He has fitness, athleticism, aggression, chin... but is crude and wild. No strategy, no plan b when his rushing tactics don't work, poor punch variety... where was his jab? He needs a decent trainer.
People are talking like Eubank is up-and-coming with time to mature, and Groves is over the hill. But they're a similar age. Eubank should be at his peak (or approaching it) about now.

Such an over-rated talent. Lives off Daddy - doesnt think he needs a proper trainer - throws 10 punches a second - compared by his Dad to Mayweather.
Such looneys. Glad to see he lost, comfortably.
Like Groves said in the press conference. Its levels.
Eubank will never win a legitimate world title.
Fought 2 world ranked fighters and lost.
Like Naz says, just retire mate, you have made your money, but unless you change your whole setup and fundamentals, your going nowhere.

I saw Eubank Jr live a few years back on an under card and he's still the same fighter now, not improved at all. Good Athlete and Solid Chin but lacks power and ring craft. Going no where further than he is at now.

Needs to up it in the gym
See these videos of him knocking people out, but they seem like novices who are there to make him look good
Not gonna learn anything against those types of partners

Let’s be honest he was woeful one-dimensional as you get can’t see him ever making life-changing money out of the game and hasn’t got the skill to ever make it at the highest level
Maybe though they could turn him into an out and out slugger and match him up in fun fights?
Love to see the Cox fight but it ain’t going to lead to massive money is it

Re: Groves v Eubank - Don't get too excited !!...
I will say again what I said after the fight with BJS- I believe that Eubank has plenty of the qualities needed to be a world class fighter, but lacks perhaps the most important- and that's the good sense to realise that you need to listen to your corner both during the preparation for and during a fight. It should be remembered that he has worked extensively with Mike McCallum, and Mayweather Senior, and earned plenty of plaudits from them, but having decided to base himself in Brighton with Ronnie Davis and Eubank Sr , his development seems to have stopped. It was obvious that in both the fight against Groves and BJS that he had no game plan other than to try and turn the fight into a brawl, and he lacked the necessary skills to do so.
For those of us old enough to have followed Sr's career there is more than a whiff of history repeating itself- Sr too used claim to be self trained, and throughout his career ignored advice from Ronnie Davis, both during and in preparation for fights- indeed Davis is quoted as saying that "it broke his heart to see him waste his talent" with his crazy weight cutting regime.
Similarly the criticism Jr received regarding the technical aspect of his boxing have all been previously made of Senior- failure to use his jab-tick, poor balance /foot work when having to force a fight-tick, ludicrous flailing right hands-tick, posing instead of working-tick. This idea that Senior as a technician has gained credence since he retired, but I for one never bought that- he could look excellent against certain style of boxer- i.e. those that stood in front of him, but put him in with someone with a bit more nouce and he could be made to look very average indeed.
If junior is serious about his career, he should cut the apron strings, go back to the US and pair up with a trainer that he respects and will listen to, preferably one believes in having a game plan rather than just turn up and hope the fight goes your way.
