NXT taping results from 7th March to Takeover
- No Way Jose over Marcel Barthel in the dark match of the evening.
- Tommaso Ciampa comes out to cut a promo to a fiercely negative reaction from Full Sail. He tells everyone that Johnny Gargano is gone and he’s never coming back and soaks in the atmosphere a bit before leaving, taking his sweet time and tearing up signs...
- UNTIL JOHNNY ATTACKS HIM FROM THE CROWD!
- He had been lying in wait in a lucha mask and security had to drag him off!
- Pete Dunne & Roderick Strong over Danny Burch & Oney Lorcan (Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic First Round Match)
- Ember Moon over Aliyah. Shayna Baszler was on commentary for this.
- Raul Mendoza comes out for a match, but Andrade “Cien” Almas jumps him from behind and beats him down. He proceeded to cut a bilingual promo on Aleister Black after.
- Adam Cole over Kassius Ohno.
- William Regal comes out and announces that the NXT North American Championship will be introduced at NXT TakeOver: New Orleans.
- EC3 makes his entrance with his tron and everything as EC3. He’s glad that Regal is so kind as to create a title just for him and give it to him on his first day, but Mr. Regal informs him that he will actually have to earn it, in a ladder match against five other men at TakeOver: New Orleans.
- Authors of Pain (Akam & Rezar) over Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford). (Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Semifinal Match)
- Pete Dunne & Roderick Strong over SAnitY (Alexander Wolfe & Eric Young). (Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Semifinal Match)
- Lars Sullivan over John Silver.
- Dakota Kai comes out for a match but the focus gets diverted because they have to send a camera out to the parking lot where Andrade “Cien” Almas is beating Aleister Black down! They eventually make their way to ringside where Almas destroys Black with a chair to the point where he has to be helped out.
- The full list of participants in the NXT North American Championship Ladder Match at TakeOver: New Orleans is announced— Adam Cole, EC3, Killian Dain, Lars Sullivan, Ricochet, and Velveteen Dream.
- Velveteen Dream over Trent Seven.
- Killian Dain vs. Lars Sullivan ends in a no contest when the other four men involved in the ladder match run in and have a big ol’ brawl. Ricochet ends up standing tall.
- Kairi Sane over Vanessa Borne.
- Authors of Pain (Akam & Rezar) vs. Pete Dunne & Roderick Strong ends in a no contest when Adam Cole and Kyle O’Reilly run in and attack both teams. (Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Finals)
- William Regal comes out and announces that Authors of Pain vs. Pete Dunne & Roderick Strong vs. Undisputed Era will happen at TakeOver: New Orleans with the winner both taking the tag titles and the Dusty Classic finals.
- Ricochet over Chris Dijak.
Some big takeaways here, obviously being the introduction of a mid card title. NXT has been crying out for another title so their midcard have something to do other than wait till they get an NXT title shot.
Great to see EC3 keep the moniker.
Ciampa vs Gargano could very well be match of the year given how good the build has been.
Heard Bobby Fish is injured. It’ll be interesting to see if Adam Cole pulls double duty at Takeover.
