Sunwolves might get the boot from Super Rugby

The Super Rugby nations are considering cutting the competition back to 14 teams and doing away with the unpopular conference system from 2021. Not for the first time, Japan's Sunwolves are in the firing line as South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and Argentina battle to agree on a format that suits all unions.

Would they be a fit for the Pro14?

I personally can see in the not so distance future.
All SA franchises to join Pro rugby and the Champions cup/Challenge cup.
And an Pacific Island super rugby team to join the super rugby.
Argentina is the diffcult one given their time zone.

The ideal scenario would be Argentina get in a league with USA teams, but the US teams need to significantly improve for that to be competitive and viable financially.

If NZ and Oz dump Japan what hope do they have balancing the books in the future. SA has feet in both North and South and seem to be doing a wait and see.
Interesting they think 15 weeks for the regular season is too long.

Having read a bit more and also heard a bit it seems that Japan wanted a Super Rugby team to help with their preparation for their world cup. Might explain why SR was annoyed at the Sunwolves when alot of the international players stayed with their club team.
