Leicester Tigers up for sale
Heard on the radio this morning that Tigers are up for sale, if anyone's got a cheeky £16M down the back of their sofa...
Yup, confirmed here: https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/rugby/rugby-union/club-rugby/leicester-tigers-for-sale-offers-buy-premiership-rugby-news-a8973226.html

Who currently owns them? And how will this impact their competitiveness next season?

Ah, I didn't realise that it was fan-owned. You could stand to make a nice bit of money then LT!

can't call it fan owned when two people own 50% of the company really.

I need to find the certificate now and update them with my new address
Then I can vote on the proposal and when my vote not to sell is ignored take the money.

Yeah, was never sure how much they had. Still the fans still had a big stake - but soon no longer.

Re: Leicester Tigers up for sale
If Tigers want to compete it's was probably inevitable that this would happen.
Having a club with the facilities and fan base Tigers have it's probably the jewel of the Prem clubs and most likely to be turned into a profitable business.
They have a sizable population of which a large percent actually care about Rugby. They seem to have a good academy system in place.
I assume it's not saddled with large amounts of debt either.

There was debt, linked to development of the stands. However the CVC payment clears all debt.

I wouldn't get too excited I think they're worth around £2 - £2.50 each.

Re: Leicester Tigers up for sale
Is this why there has been so much inaction in off the field appointments? If so it's the board failing a final time because a Tigers with a quality coaching set up would be more likely to sell than what we currently have, especially as the defence coach and coaching consultant are out of contract.
Hoping we get Top come in and bring us into the King Power family. Maybe we could share the new training complex as well.
Would help pay for a European jaunt this season though.

Jan McGinity confirmed as head of elite performance recruitment. Hopefully he'll be better than Glynn

Glynn wasn't all bad. The recruitment of Denton, Spencer and Thompson last summer for instance. His overhaul of the academy has enabled Taylor to transform it. He was promoted above his experience and ability but McGinty coming should help rectify that.
Pat Howard returning as coaching mentor is also excellent news.

I think the whole stunt is because someone like that has already tried this and the board are trying to sell the club to someone like the King Power Group instead. I suspect they'd be a few interested parties but even fewer that would add something to Leicester Tigers.

Re: Leicester Tigers up for sale
Tigers have the largest crowd attendances of any GP club, only Bristol and Wasps can get close, they have 50% more than say Saints and 200% more than Sale and Worcester. Unless their ticket prices are very cheap, thus attracting bigger crowds, they should be earning more than anyone else and with the wage cap, should not be spending much more.
How does more investment in better players work if you are limited on your spending? You can only clear out the players coming to an end of their contracts unless you come to an accommodation.

If the King Power group purchased them would they be like Treviso and get their name changed to the owners, something like the King Power Tigers. Would fans care as long as Tigers was in there.

They did not change the name of Leicester City, just the name of the stadium (perhaps via naming rights). No point having two King Power Stadiums in one city
I am really not sure what rugby benefits would be brought by new owners, unless we believe the cap will be removed and the GP is about to become an arms race.

Three years of losses whilst the board have got some capital projects going. The board have set everything up and aren't getting any younger. They might feel they've taken everything as far as they can and they need an injection of fresh thinking. Certainly the decisions in relation to the first team have not been good.
