WBC continues to corrupt boxing...
So WBC has announced yet another new title 'franchise champion, bestowed upon Saul Alvarez. Rather bizarrely a 'franchise champion' doesn't hold a WBC title and naturally has no mandatory bouts.
Jermall Charlo, whom was WBC mandatory for 14 months, has been promoted to full champion. Charlo not entirely impressed by being taken out of the Alvarez sweepstakes.

I don't hate Canelo himself, but I seriously dislike anything that his team have to do with influence on boxing. We've had "Canelo weight", a 6-month ban for doping and then straight in to a World Title Fight, we get his team insisting that he fights in certain places, the whole set up stinks. And now this. You've been stripped of our belt. We've given it to the WBC No 1 contender. So have this "Special One" because you're amazing and we love you.
What a massive pile of BS.

Re: WBC continues to corrupt boxing...
As someone that used to follow boxing far more I always defended the WBO and IBF against accusations of them having lesser status in the sport than the original two governing bodies.
However, the WBC and WBA now seem to be less meaningful than the two more recent organisations.
The WBA continue with their appalling Super/Regular champions. Firstly a Champion is "super" by definition and so the use of the word "super" is extraneous. Likewise there should be nothing "regular" about a world champion and so the term "regular" is a misnomer to describe a champion of the world.
Put simply the WBA say that there are "two" world champions and therefore two number 1s which is plainly idiotic.
The WBC with their diamond, gold, silver, platinum, aluminium, tinfoil etc... belts and trinkets make their organisation un utter farce.
Until people stop buying in to it, the proliferation of meaningless belts, titles and honours will continue.
