New Zealand vs South Africa - Pool B Game 1 - 21st September 2019
First topic message reminder :
Erasmus has made 12 changes to the Springbok team that beat Australia, with Vermeulen back as captain. This team is arguably their strongest right now which is why this fixture has peaked my interest. It’ll be interesting to see how the AB selectors respond.
Springboks team to face New Zealand in Wellington:
Willie le Roux, Cheslin Kolbe, Lukhanyo Am, Damian de Allende, Makazole Mapimpi, Handré Pollard, Faf de Klerk, Duane Vermeulen, Pieter-Steph du Toit, Kwagga Smith, Franco Mostert, Eben Etzebeth, Frans Malherbe, Malcolm Marx, Steven Kitshoff. Replacements: Bongi Mbonambi, Tendai Mtawarira, Trevor Nyakane, R.G. Snyman, Francois Louw, Herschel Jantjies, Frans Steyn, Jesse Kriel.

Just so you know, this thread was set up to cover the RC match back in July!

Looks like NZ have 10 changes in their starting XV from the RC game.

Can you summarise them? Obviously Retallick is injured, what are the other changes. 10 seems a lot although all sides were experimenting a bit in the RC.
Sorry didnt realise that they were on the OP. I think the side for Saturday is a better side. Two score win for NZ. This is not a great SA side despite all the hype.

What is the thread etiquette for the tournament? Are we having individual game threads, trying to keep discussion to the Pool threads that LT set up or using the individual country threads for games

Whatever people want really
My suggestion would be that Team threads are best kept to generalities. Match discussions can happen in the pool threads, unless someone wishes to set up an individual match thread. Japan Russia is unlikely to use as many posts as Scotland Ireland.

According to the weather forecast Saturday and Sunday conditions look like they will be played in Monsoon rain conditions.
If that's true, I make South Africa slight favourites. That weather won't help New Zealand's all out attack plan.

NZ just keep shovelling schit. Each time someone gets a bad pass they just bobble it on to someone else. Take the contact and reset.

How is that not a yellow?!
Probably the most clear example of a yellow that you could get.

The springboks having their hearts broken by the all blacks. For 20 minutes SA looked incredible but they seemed to punch themselves out. NZ simply incredible

I guarantee you had England scored the kiwi first try the ref would have gone back to check for a forward pass

That scrum penalty sums it up really, the NZ prop dropped but South Africa were penalised, nonsense.

Not sure why Barrett didn't just touch that down but the Saffer was definitely offside when he intercepted it!

Garces isn't so much refereeing as just offering occasional guidance. Pretty poor show from his end.
