Chris Benoit Written out of WWE
I know that the WWE refuses to mention Chris Benoit and do not use any footage with him in, but I didn't realise that he had been completly written out of their record books. I just watched Vintage Collection and the last match had Bob Backlund in it. Afterwards Gene Okerlund said that Backlund would claim the longest Royal Rumble participation in the 1993 event. He also said this was a record he would hold for over ten years. So far, so correct.
He then said that he held the record until 2006 when Rey Mysterio would beat it. This is wrong, as Chris Benoit beat the record in 2004, before Mysterio surpassed it two years later.
Why did the WWE feel the need to do that? They could have left it when they said he held the record for over ten years. They could have even added that Mysterio is the current record holder. It just seems really odd to me that they would make the effort to try and change history just because of Benoit.
What do you feel about this policy? Are the E correct to do this, should they acknowledge Benoit or is the correct balance somewhere in between?

sad really..no i know the man ent crazy and did what he did but he should still be in the record books
Re: Chris Benoit Written out of WWE
There is a huge difference to not mentioning someone to wiping out their memory completely.
What happened with Benoit has in no way tarnished the name of WWE so i dont know why they would do this.
There is no need to change history or the stats, like Enforcer said, just dont mention him instead.

Apparently no one won the 2004 Royal Rumble according to the WWE website.

They should aknowledge the wrestler Chris Benoit, not the man he became before he did what he did.

He is on the website in the record books, I had a look at the Intercontinental Title history a few weeks ago and it acknowledges him there

I think that editing him out of history entirely works against them; it actually brings more attention to it.
They clearly shouldn't glorify him in any way or show any footage of him, but I don't think there would be any harm in having him in the record books.
As awful as his actions were, it seems like a strange thing to do. If Alan Shearer did the same thing he would still be the Premier League's record goalscorer.
I think the main reason WWE has edited him out of history is because they are bitter that he exposed the company's terrible business practices and treatment of its employees...

Re: Chris Benoit Written out of WWE
Are the WWE really that bad an employer? Or have I always thought it's sunshine and lollipops in WWE land?
I was a HUGE fan of Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero. I remember wearing their t-shirts for weeks after both deaths. You'll probably correct me about this, but the last I heard, was that Eddie died after overdosing on steroids? Or was that some bullcrap I read in a paper?
As for Chris, I loved his style. The crossface and diving headbutt were amazing. I remember him diving off a ladder and shattering his nose (?). My favourite Benoit moment. They shouldn't delete his name out of WWE history, thats just plain wrong. He did wonders for them.

As far as I'm aware Eddie actually died due to the adverse effects that years of abusing painkillers had done to his body.
Might be wrong...but I think it was something along those lines.
