SURREY VS HAMPSHIRE SPECSAVERS COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
Surrey have named a thirteen man squad for the club’s return to Specsavers County Championship cricket at the Ageas Bowl against Hampshire.
Rory Burns, Sam Curran and Jason Roy are still involved with England’s unsuccessful Ashes campaign, meaning wicket keeper Ben Foakes continues as captain whilst T20 skipper Jade Dernbach is added to the squad that played at the Kia Oval.
South African batsman Dean Elgar returns for his second stint of the season in place of Aaron Finch and teenager Jamie Smith returns to First XI contention.
There is no place in the squad for Ryan Patel, Gareth Batty or Stuart Meaker.
While Liam Plunkett and Matthew Dunn remain on the treatment table.
Full Surrey Squad:
Ben Foakes (captain and wicket keeper)
Scott Borthwick
Jordan Clark
Rikki Clarke
Jade Dernbach
Dean Elgar
Will Jacks
Conor McKerr
Morne Morkel
Ollie Pope
Jamie Smith
Mark Stoneman
Amar Vird
right Jacks and Dernbach to miss out imo
good to see smith back from injury
Over to you chaps

Re: SURREY VS HAMPSHIRE SPECSAVERS COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
Cheers, JimBob. Yeah, I reckon you're probably right on the eleven.
Jacks could squeeze in ahead of Smith but the latter has done better this season and seems highly thought of - so I'll stick with how you've called it. Hard to see Dernbach edging out any of the other seamers.
Hants have named a 14 man squad containing some useful names. Vince, Northeast, Abbott and Edwards plus my man 'Ronnie' Barker - hope he makes the cut. The other one to look out for is Dawson - he would be more than a decent replacement for the Burger Van.

Hopefully Ollie Pope can push that FC average up above 60 by the end of this game, if only to highlight the ridiculousness of him playing for Surrey and not for England at his home ground in familiar surroundings!

I see we are off to a flyer, 16-0 after 12 overs. Interesting that Vince is batting at 5 today

Interesting decision to bat first on a pitch doing plenty for the seamers...
Clarke always does well against us.

Surrey must have also wanted to bat first.

They very much did - Foakes contested the toss! Maybe going to deteriorate as the game goes on?

LT, yeah good point.
Guildford, Olly - Dawson recently signed a new deal although he was in talks with other teams, most notably Warwickshire as Fabrace is a big fan. Great news for us as the club were very worried about him moving on!

Aha, cheers Jimbo - I thought Guildford had been on the blower to Stewart or Mr Spiller again!

After an excellent start by the Clark(e)s, and getting Ronnie out cheaply, it's Russ again who is our nemesis, and has soured the Atmosphere!

D'oh! Batting at 4 too? An England request or just out of necessity looking at the team?

England requested it last summer after his two test, but it’s more of necessity and also his natural progression in the XI this summer.
Ideally he’ll come into the england team at 5 (behind Root at 4, and a proper 3)...but that might be wishful thinking

Hi Olly - well, I was before my holiday, at least to someone similar. I didn't know Dawson had since signed a new deal with Hants. As Jimbo says, that's great news for his team. Suffice to say that Warks were not the only club who were very interested.

That's very kind of you, Olly, considering it turned out to be a completely duff hint anyway!
Meanwhile, Surrey's last 3 wickets caved this morning to leave us 162 all out. A lead of 13 and pretty much setting up a one innings game. Morkel run out for a duck when he would have got home if he had bothered to motor! A fourfer for Ronnie - he so regularly gives good value for his money with the red ball.

Re: SURREY VS HAMPSHIRE SPECSAVERS COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP
Hants are 3 down but they are going at a good lick and have 150 on the board. Averaging around 4.5 an over and leading by 137.
I thought JimBob was a bit quick off the mark to say it was ''advantage Hampshire'' at 11:45 but it's looking that way now.

Just to make you feel a bit better jimbob, a couple of Organs wickets were 'caught on the boundary'. Some crazy decision making from some of those Surrey batsman.

Just to belatedly add - whilst at the Oval yesterday for the Surrey v Notts game, I listened a bit of the time to the radio commentary. Mark Church (the Radion London guy) spoke openly about us having tried to sign Liam Dawson prior to him committing himself to Hants.
