FIRST ROUND MATCH – AEW WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT

THE YOUNG BUCKS VS. PRIVATE PARTY
Plenty of reversals from Nick and Kassidy before they have a staredown, then Nick gets frustrated before Matt connects with a dropkick through the ropes. Nick attacks Kassidy and the Bucks isolate Quen outside, then Kassidy counters a double suplex and sends Matt outside. Quen gets the tag after Kassidy hits Matt with a moonsault, then Quen hits a crossbody block before following up with a tope suicida, crossbody and a somersault dive in succession, hitting each move running from each side of the ring out to the floor.

Kassidy goes for another somersault dive on the floor but Matt catches him and powerbombs him on the ramp. Nick hooks Quen in a Sharpshooter, but Quen makes it to the ropes to break. Nick goes for a superkick but it gets blocked, then Quen avoids a suicide dive and Nick lands on the floor. The Bucks regain the upperhand after Kassidy gets yanked off the apron, but Quen finally makes the tag after getting isolated and Kassidy comes in with dropkicks on Matt and Nick, then follows with a double hurricanrana. The Bucks block a double team move and hit several release suplexes, then they connect with a corner powerbomb before Matt applies another Sharpshooter. Kassidy goes for the ropes but it’s blocked, then Nick hits Quen with a moonsault on the floor. After a few moments of being worked over, Kassidy finally gets to his corner and Quen blindtags in, then hits a hurricanrana on Nick that sends him into the corner. Kassidy instantly hits a cutter, and Quen follows with a shooting star press but only gets two. Matt goes for a Meltzer Driver, but Kassidy pulls Nick off the ropes and rolls him up for the win.

Winners – Private Party

#LeChampion Chris Jericho leads Jake Hager, Sammy Guevara, Santana and Ortiz to the ring for a promo, taking credit for the success of last week’s debut. Jericho tells the crowd to shut up, then says the five of them are next, now, and yes they are aligned and they will have a name. Jericho praises each of his allies, noting that Sammy Guevara is a star, and he personally recruited Santana and Ortiz for AEW. He says they are all on ‘his list’, then puts over Hager as a feared fighter—then stops to kill the crowd chanting ‘We The People’ by saying that’s bad creative and that’s dead and gone. Jericho says they’re the Inner Circle and they’re taking over, and he doesn’t care who it is. Jericho says he doesn’t like Cody or his family, and takes a few digs at Dusty and Dustin before saying he’s going to beat the Poopie out of Cody at Full Gear—you’re welcome.

#1 CONTENDER’S MATCH

JIMMY HAVOC VS. DARBY ALLIN
Darby elbows Havoc in the corner, then Darby leaps over him and connects with a dropkick that sends Havoc back into the turnbuckles. Darby goes for a suplex but Havoc bites his hand on the apron before hitting a suplex on the floor. Havoc rolls him back in and toys with Darby, dares him to get back up after taking a few slaps and ends up sending him into the corner. Havoc applies a sleeper in the corner and pulls Darby up by his neck, then whips him out to the floor as we go to a break. We get back to see Havoc connect with Tiger Driver 98 for a near fall, then Darby makes a quick comeback, bites Havoc’s hand and hits a floatover stunner, then hits the coffin drop and picks up the win.

Winner – Darby Allin

BEA PRIESTLEY & EMI SAKURA VS. BRITT BAKER & RIHO
Emi catches Riho off the ropes and slams her down, but Riho makes a quick comeback and tries to slam her opponent. Emi blocks it and whips Riho by the hair, then Bea and Britt end up fighting on the floor, with Bea whipping Britt into the timekeeper’s area. Britt runs right back and tackles Bea as Emi is choking Riho with her boot, then Bea tries to suplex Britt on the floor as Emi comes out to assist her. Emi rakes Britt’s back and they hit a double team suplex, but Riho rushes over and hits a top rope crossbody out to the floor.

Emi drags Bea back into their own corner, then she slams Britt on the mat and plays to the crowd before hitting a corner splash and a spinning senton for two. Britt comes back with a quick stunner, then Emi hits a few strikes before Riho gets involved and double stomps Emi’s stomach before Britt hits a neckbreaker for two. Emi calls for Britt to charge her, and Britt connects with a rolling neckbreaker, then puts her in the Rings Of Saturn and applies a mandible claw to make Emi tap out.

Winners – Britt Baker & Riho

JON MOXLEY VS. SHAWN SPEARS (W/ TULLY BLANCHARD)
Moxley gets right in Spears’ face and they trade strikes, then Moxley drops an elbow for two before Spears ducks a chop and punches Moxley in the corner. Moxley comes back with an elbow that sends Spears outside to regroup, then Tully tries to attack Moxley but Moxley chases him off. Moxley hits Spears with a forearm off of the apron, then Tully sees his chance and shoves Moxley into the ring steps. Spears lifts Moxley into a fireman’s carry position and slams him into the barricade as we go to a break, then Spears rolls Moxley back in and throws a couple of chops. He sends Moxley back outside and throws a few more chops, then Moxley mounts a comeback with a dive on the floor.

Spears turns things around and goes on offense, but Moxley regains the upper hand after Spears mocks him with a ‘Perfect Ten’ pose. Moxley kicks him and hits the Paradigm Shift, and takes the win.

Winner – Jon Moxley

Kenny Omega comes to the stage with a barbed wire bat and broom, daring Moxley to meet him on the stage. Moxley slowly walks up the ramp, and Omega tosses the bat to him and winds up. Before they can continue, PAC (who was at commentary) rushes over and cracks Omega in the back of the head with a chair. Moxley doesn’t look too thrilled about PAC’s involvement, but stands over Omega before tossing the bat and leaving.

DUSTIN RHODES & HANGMAN PAGE VS. CHRIS JERICHO & SAMMY GUEVARA
Dustin and Jericho go right after each other, then Page and Dustin isolate Sammy inside before Page hits a fallaway slam. Page slingshots over the ropes to splash Jericho on the floor, then he chops Sammy and tags Dustin back in for a short spurt. The referee gets Jericho out of the ring as Page tags back in, then Page heads back up top but Jericho crotches him on the ropes and Sammy goes on offense. We get back from a break to see Jericho and Sammy in control, working to keep Page down but Sammy runs into a big discus lariat. Dustin finally gets back into it and hits a big crossbody off the turnbuckles, then he pulls the ropes down on Sammy to send him outside and Page follows with a huge moonsault out to the floor. Hager charges over and takes him down with a clothesline, then Dustin works over Jericho until Sammy charges in and Dustin hits a spinning powerslam. The ref is still distracted by Sammy, who pulls the ref’s shirt, and Hager runs in and tackles Dustin, then Jericho connects with Judas Effect for the win.

Winners – Chris Jericho & Sammy Guevara

Inner Circle works over Page and Dustin until the lights go out, then Cody appears and drops Sammy with Cross Rhodes. Cody corners Jericho, but Santana and Ortiz rush out and attack, and Jericho chokes Cody with his own tie. MJF runs out with a chair and they have a stand off, and there’s a tease with MJF possibly turning sides, but MJF goes nuts on Inner Circle and clears the ring, yelling ‘that’s right, baby!’ and takes it all in. Jericho ends up dropping him with a Codebreaker, then the Bucks run out for the save, followed by Darby Allin who rides his skateboard out and tackles Jericho before hitting him over the back with it. The heels retreat as the faces stand tall in the ring, and Jericho screams about getting back at Cody and Darby, saying next week would serve as Darby’s funeral, bitch!

Saw this for the first time on Friday (now showing on ITV4 - Freeview channel 24, for those not in the know).

Reminded me quite a lot of the early years of TNA, (or going much further back, WCW). Thought it was a pretty good show. Nice to see a new, alternative franchise that actually feels like a major player.

Really helped that there was a decent crowd making plenty of noise - amazing the difference it makes.

Also great to see some of the theatrics that have been desperately missing from TNA for a while. Will definitely watch again when I can. The 11:00 - 1:00 slot is a little late for my liking, but worth it.

Cody Rhodes makes his entrance and we go to break.

Back from commercial, Tony Schiavone interviews Cody Rhodes while the Inner Circle interrupt with air horns.

Cody has an announcement for us but Chris Jericho interrupts by booing into a microphone. Rhodes says he knows they purchased tickets but this isn’t like the other show and he could easily come up there and fight right here, right now. (Van Halen is kicking ass in America?) Jericho says he knows Cody is a smart man so he shouldn’t be stupid.

He should stay in the ring, coward and entitled millenial little bitch that he is. That line gets Rhodes’ ire up and he takes his jacket off and makes to go over the barricade until Y2J reminds him of That Damn Numbers Game. He tells Cody to get out--

Enter Dustin Rhodes.

Okay, so it’s still 4-2, stay there and be cowards, Jericho says.

Enter Maxwell Jacob Friedman.

Jericho’s still confident...

Diamond Dallas Page is here!

The four of them stride up to the Inner Circle’s box seats but Jericho and company turn tail and run! They lock themselves in a room...

Sounds like I missed out on some good action. Crying or Very sad

I did catch last week's show though, which was pretty impressive. Have to say I'm really liking AEW so far. Although the factions thing isn't a new idea, the Inner Circle vs Elite conflict does add a lot of drama and gives more scope for backstage shenanigans, interference etc.
