Ennio Morricone
His magnificent musical scores were a major cinema influence and embraced many film genres. For me though and I suspect many others, the Dollars Trilogy and especially The Good, The Bad and The Ugly always the stand out.
A genius. RIP.

Definitely echo those sentiments. The Ecstacy of Gold (The Good, The Bad & The Ugly), Gabriel's Oboe (The Mission) and El Indio's theme (A Few Dollars More) are the standout works from me.
As you say he was a genius, and arguably the greatest of the post-war composers.
